Who is paying for it then?

Boris Johnson’s spokesman repeatedly refused on Monday to confirm who has paid for Boris Johnson’s holiday to Marbella and won't say whether the Prime Minister has paid for his own holiday or who else has funded it.

Pushed on the question, Downing Street would only say that the prime minister would disclose any donations he has received, if required to do so, at a later date.

The caginess from Johnson’s spokesman follows reports that the prime minister is currently staying at a villa owned by the Conservative peer Zac Goldsmith.

Goldsmith, who is a close friend of both Johnson and his wife, was handed a peerage by Johnson, despite having been rejected by voters three times in just four years.''

Does anyone know- how many holidays has the PM had since he became PM!

Who funds the Conservative party?

The Pandora papers show that huge sums of money from individuals, with links to corruption scandals, have found their way into our political system.

One example is Mohamed Amersi, who was allegedly involved in one of Europe’s biggest corruption scandals, and has donated £525,000 to the Conservative Party since 2018.

Also, 34 Conservative MPs have received donations from Aquind, a company backed by Viktor Fedotov, who, it is claimed, made millions from an allegedly corrupt Russian pipeline deal.

This is not a good look for our democracy.

I think it's precised as
"You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours".

It has happened since time immemorial.

Whilst he is away , i would guess, we are all paying for his security detail, who will have jetted out with him. So yes it should concern us all who is paying for this, and what influences they are having on policy, another member of the Goldsmith family today, not being supportive of the covid lockdowns/protections we had in place last year, I suspect this effects the families wealth with offices being empty.

I'd be very surprised that anyone wanting to rent Goldsmith's villa would be bothered about the season or school holidays.

Dinahmo Tue 12-Oct-21 19:32:06

Just had a peek at the website. The villa looks quite nice. No plastic outdoor chairs - always a good sign.

Rather classy then.

Perhaps we could book it for a Gransnet meetup.
Free of charge otherwise we'll give it bad reviews.

Well you'd be surprised. People who pay £30.000 +++ for top private schools just don't take kids out of school for holidays!

No, but they could go away by themselves during term time...

Kali2 Tue 12-Oct-21 20:10:07

Ah yes, if kids are boarders.

JaneJudge Tue 12-Oct-21 20:15:18

they don't get fined at private schools for taking holidays in term time plus their terms are shorter, generally anyway

I see there's a tennis court at the villa so maybe he's playing tennis with Russian oligarchs and their wives.

BJ was pictured in one paper with his palette board and easle painting, do I remember Churchill painting, even laying bricks in his spare time.
Does Boris compare himself to the great man, is he really that deluded.

trisher Wed 13-Oct-21 11:12:37

Much as I dislike the man his mother was a. talented painter and I see to remember reading that she thought he had some talent and should paint.
Mind he's probably busy calculating how much he'll be able to sell his paintings for.

Yes, I think she was hoping he'd take after her and be an artist.

I paint but I'm nothing like Churchill
