Those words........'small island'..........you just know what is coming next.
Is that you Andrea? ?
Or it could be Bill Bryson and his notes.
Oh, I think not. Bryson's notes are amusing...
The BBC who has not mentioned Brexit at all for months has it appears finally opening the dam and no longer editing out any mention of the issue.
Business after business blaming Brexit for the crises.
Something we knew now being confirmed.

I’m not sure about the connection between the EEC and the ‘Winter of Discontent’, but something had to be done about the volumes of people entering this small country. Guess who’s responsible for 30% of recent births, according to the BBC? Have you tried to get a doctor’s appointment recently?!
15% of NHS staff are of non British origin.
Who knows...some of those lovely, welcome, innocent babies might go on to be doctors...or the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
Immigrants pay tax which funds the NHS.
Why are people being rude to Whitewavemark2 ? For example, "have you forgotten to take your medicine?" Some quite unkind people posting. You can put your point of view and Whitewavemark2 can do the same.

Sadly for you, TiggyW shutting out EU citizens will do nothing to affect our immigration figures. Mostly because we need immigrants because of our ageing population leading to fewer young people to fill our jobs.
Guess who’s responsible for 30% of recent births, according to the BBC?
What horrible thing to say.
Guess who invaded their native countries over a couple of 100 years, exploited them to enrich themselves and the UK , imposed the 'British' way of life on them (calling it 'civilising' them) and told them they belonged to Britain?
And guess what, 'they' are nothing to do with the EU, either.
I completely agree MaizieD with your sentiments.
Guess who's responsible for 30% of recent births, according to the BBC - Tiggyw - what a terrible racist comment.
U.K. was far more prosperous as an EU country than back in the 60s - weren’t we the “sick man of Europe”?

Dunno - Boris Johnson maybe?
You’ve got a point there….

I get the feeling that 'more youngsters' would be OK if they weren't the wrong colour...

I’m old enough to remember life before we joined the blasted EU or EEC as it was then.
As I remember, life was pretty good. Most things we bought had Made in England stamped on them, Harold MacMillan told us we’d never had it so good, jobs were plentiful, we didn’t turn our noses up at what was on offer and people seemed happy on the whole.
Then came the 70s, we joined the EEC, we had the winter of discontent, who was in power then? Don’t need to remind anyone.
Enough said.
Labour during the winter of discontent. But what about the Three Day Week? Contrary to popular belief the govt at that time was Tory. People do conveniently forget that fact and conflate it with the Winter of Discontent.
My recollection was that life was pretty good for most of the period since we joined the EU, apart from the 2 above named events.
I also recollect the period of extremely high interest rates. Guess who was PM then? (MT)
If you think Brexit has caused problems in GB it's nothing to the problems it's caused in N.ireland. For those of you who are ' bored with conversations about it count yourselves lucky as a lot of people in N.I. are seriously worried about the situation. The one political party here who supported Brexit now just blame the EU for an agreement which the British Government signed up to.

Have you not been in an NHS hospital recently? Without immigrants the whole organisation would definitely collapse.
Exactly. That was my previous point !

Not everyone who voted to remain is a Labour voter, rabid or otherwise, many Tories also had the good sense to vote to remain, and many decent Tory MPs were hounded out of office because they went against the Johnson diktat, and there are Labour MPs like Kate Hoey who was a very vociferous Brexit supporter.
People seem to have forgotten that.
As well as forgetting other parties eg Lib Dems.
They have also forgotten that the Labour leader's messages were very lukewarm too so that those campaigning for leave persuaded traditional Labour voters to vote for Brexit.

Please back up your statement. Does this include my Romanian friend who has a child born here and is a senior theatre practitioner with a Masters? Worked on the front line all through covid19?

You can write such hateful nonsense after today's events?
Be ashamed of yourself.

Why have so many Europeans left UK. Obviously better jobs, living standards elsewhere. I'm at a loss to figure why they came to UK in the first place as if employed they were surely allowed to continue, appropriate residency forms completed. Seasonal workers can still come to UK, why did they not bother this year? Am I taking a simplistic and totally inaccurate view?
This might help you to understand. I don’t know if the article mention costs, but there is one.
I know this from personal experience having a little import to help someone get their visa.

I still feel too angry about the referendum to post very often but I want to say thank you to those brave people who take on the sad leavers' arguments. I noticed no one so far has been able to point to anything positive (that isn't based on some fairy tale) about Brexit.
