So, everytime there is a brutal murder, are tv programmes are cancelled???

I am amazed at your insensitivity .
Nothing more to say.

Lucca Sat 16-Oct-21 09:42:22

Sorry I had no idea what The Cleaner was.

Smileless2012 Sat 16-Oct-21 09:46:11

It can be extremely cutting so it's right it was cancelled.

FannyCornforth Sat 16-Oct-21 09:51:04

I think that it will be quite difficult to find suitable content for even next week’s show to be honest.
It’s going to be challenging for the writers and producers

HIGNFY was rightly postponed for obvious reaasons.

henetha Sat 16-Oct-21 10:56:18

P.S. The Cleaner is about a crime scene cleaner, so there is always a lot of blood involved. It would be inappropiate to show it on the day of a violent murder.

Thank goodness for some sensitivity on the part of the programme schedulers.

JaneJudge Sat 16-Oct-21 11:12:47

I honestly hadn't put two and two together with respect to the MPs murder sad sorry

My thoughts exactly well done to the Network concerned showing compassion to those horrific events yesterday.

There's always plenty of content. HIGNIFY is not just about politicians.

HIGNFY was cancelled some time ago on a similar occasion. I'm racking my brains trying to remember what that was.

It is recorded on the Wednesday, I think, because they always say in election weeks that they can't comment on the outcome because it is not known at the time of recording.

I was looking forward to tuning in to Kermode and Mayo on 5 live, but it was dropped immediately before it was due to go on air, and Drive time was extended until. If I hadn't read about the attack here on Gransnet, I would have wondered why. It did get a mention in our paper here in Germany today, though.

Recording it on a Thursday wouldn't make any difference, they still wouldn't know the result. Polls don't close until 10 p.m. Most results not known until early Friday a.m.

I'm very shocked and sorry that this MP was murdered, as I was when Jo Cox was murdered.

However, there have been instances of other people who serve their community being attacked and killed. The whole of the news hasn't been taken up to cover the subject. My feeling is that "democracy" isn't just about MPs sitting in parliament - after all, whoever is in power, particularly in more recent times, nothing much changes. It's also about ordinary people volunteering in foodbanks, charity shops, schools, day centres for elderly people, etc, etc.

Dinahmo Tue 19-Oct-21 11:04:23

It was on last night, on BBC2 with Alexander Armstrong in the chair. Most of the content was political but it was funny as usual.

Eloethan Tue 19-Oct-21 17:31:02

I'll have a look.

eazybee Tue 19-Oct-21 18:24:35

Which ordinary people volunteering in foodbanks, charity shops, schools, day centres for elderly people, have been murdered in cold blood?
If a person or persons are murdered in cold blood the event dominates the news, witness the policeman murdered at the Houses of Parliament, the two young people murdered at Fishmongers Hall, the policeman dragged to his death behind a car, to name but three.

humptydumpty Tue 19-Oct-21 19:03:31

Casualty was also cancelled, I wondered if the story line was particularly inappropriate in the circumstances.

Yes, I agree. Last Thursday a 14-year old boy was stabbed and died in Bristol. So tragic, all his life before him, not to be realised. Do not think it even made the national news.

I do not think I am at all insensitive by saying that I think that ANY and ALL murders whether by individuals or any other way are equally tragic.

lemsip Wed 20-Oct-21 08:59:33

Casually was cancelled because it was about a stabbing

Thanks for posting this Dinahmo I was beginning to wonder if I had imagined seeing it! There was an announcement beforehand that it was filmed before the death of David Amess. It was still funny.

The New Quiz on Radio 4 also went ahead - although it may have only been in Podcast form. At the beginning there was a disclaimer that it had been recorded prior to the events.
