The Queen is in hospital

I think for many people she represents a sort of stability, so if there are signs of something being wrong the world is suddenly a little less stable. I was 11 when she came to the throne, but for many of our citizens she has always been there, a symbol of continuity and, in a way, safety. You don’t need to be an ardent monarchist to feel this way.

I don't love her. But I rather like her.

However anyone is free to love whoever they want.

I respect and admire the Queen and hope she is with us for a few more years yet.

Speculation abounds…

Her Majesty is 95, she has had a busy October thus far, all reports are saying precautionary tests .

Let’s hope she is able to put her feet up between now and going up to COP in Glasgow.

Precautionary or Preliminary tests?

The Palace is not being honest about the situation and so speculation will abound. Why say she is resting and omit the hospital stay? She is now said to be undertaking light duties.
I assume, but don’t know, that the Queen is deciding how much information is given out.
In recent press photos of her, I thought that she has never looked happier but I would never dream of thinking that I know her true emotional state.
Whatever the truth of the situation is, no one would begrudged her a well earned retirement, if she so chooses.

Alegrias I thought a while before I posted that I love the Queen. I love her as a symbol, a National Grandmother with all that she represents. I love my country -the United Kingdom- and I therefore love the Queen.

I appreciate the meaning behind what you've written Aveline and I don't think I would be right to launch into a discussion about it on a thread about the Queen's health. So I will disappear off.

I like that, Aveline. There is so much criticism of everything about the UK these days that it's refreshing to hear from someone who loves their country. So do I.

If love is too strong a word for how I feel about the Queen, well I am very fond of her.

I don’t think we will ever have a Monarch with her level of dedication which is rather a sad thought.

Very pleased to hear she is back home and carrying out light duties.

I love Queen Elizabeth as a living and attractive symbol of continuity and stability. She is a good soul.

Poor Queenie I hope she keeps going for a few more years to come. Trouble is they only tell us what they have to (which is reasonable) so she could be just resting or on deaths door. Lets hope she is just got her feet up for a few days.

I don’t love the Queen, but I hope she recovers quickly from whatever the problem is. She has always been a hard working royal, and deserves respect and even possibly some sort of affection, or maybe admiration, for her hard working ethos. Perhaps she should be taking things a bit more easy at this stage in her life.

You can never have too much love around. I think the queen is remarkable as most people do I think.

I thought there was always someone round to sample taste her food before it was given to her .?? Or is that just a nonsensical story?

I too love my country and our queen. She has served us all for so many years with such dedication she deserves our devotion.
She may have lead a full life at 95 but when she’s gone it will be a very sad day.

I don’t love the queen, I don’t know her and we d have nothing in common if I did I admire her that she’s still working at the grand old age of 95 and I think she’s been a good hard working head for so long but I think that s also a bit controlling as in my opinion she should have given it over to Charles or even William years ago
Why would she still expect to be head of the country at her advanced age there’s a wise reason people retire but she’s obviously going to keep going until she drops so good luck to her Her mum went over 100 didn’t she so reckon she’s got a few more years in her she looks very good for her years but it’s got to end somewhere so although I join in wishing her well I will not be upset or surprised when she dies

I too hold the Queen in great esteem, admiring her diligence and discretion.

I think all the reporting about the Queen being advised to give up alcohol followed by postponing her trip to Ireland and then going to hospital for tests speaks volumes. However, at her age you'd be surprised if she didn't have some health issues but I just don't think she would have put off her trip to Ireland if she could have helped it which makes me think it is more serious than 'they' are letting on.

...and is she not allowed some privacy about personal health matters....??

So, Alegrias1 , all those people who have donated organs to people they don't know, or who have sacrificed their life to save others, have not done it out of love for humanity, but just sentimentality??

Indeed she has had a long and fruitful life, and she’s had the best everything throughout her life. It’s my opinion that she should have handed over to Charles a few years ago, and retired to continue living her life with the best of everything. I’ve just been watching the news and there was an article on about old people being unable to access the care they need. The Queen will never have this problem and will continue to receive the best of everything until she dies. I do find her attitude both controlling and selfish whatever promises she may have made when she was 25. It’s unfair to her son and to her country to leave him to become king when he’s already in his late 70s or even his 80s.
