Who killed her abusive husband. I have been following the trial And feel so sad for her. 20 years of abuse from this horrible man, who can blame her for finally snapping. Whilst murder is of course wrong under any circumstances I hope she does not go to jail. If there had been support for her things might have been different. They look so ordinary too, they could be anyone’s next door neighbour or family friend!

Phew!
That's harsh, in my opinion.

Sago Fri 29-Oct-21 17:45:22

That’s shocking, 18 months would have been sufficient.

Urmstongran Fri 29-Oct-21 17:57:12

She could have just left him. As in walked out. She had a daughter. She could have stayed for a while. Divorced. Got a payout (half) and set up on her own. Yes I feel very sorry for what went on in her 3rd marriage. But it wasn’t all behind closed doors. Her daughter knew some of it. She wasn’t trapped at home with babies and nowhere to run. Sorry but I think she did have options. She didn’t choose any.

Wow, 18 years is harsh. I expect there will be an appeal though.

Urmstongran Fri 29-Oct-21 18:01:14

18 years minimum so not out in two-thirds term unless an appeal is successful.

Ilovecheese Fri 29-Oct-21 18:03:01

She should have strangled him and said she did it because she was fed up of lockdown. Then she might have got 5 years. Or perhaps if she had killed him during sex and then said she couldn't remember doing it. Then she might have got 4 years.

Jackiest Fri 29-Oct-21 18:07:33

This is the Daily mail so not a reliable source but it does not paint a very nice picture of her and states that she could possible have murdered someone else.

Actually, I agree with that.

She was bound to get a long sentence, having followed the story.

MissAdventure Fri 29-Oct-21 18:12:40

She could have said he liked it rough and choked him to death.
That seems to work.

That did make me laugh... grin
But 18yrs?She might never get out? Not surprised.
One thing tho she will be a bit of a Celebrity in Jail.

Having now read about this case on the BBC news site it sounds as if the sentence was fair. She even kept stabbing him whilst he was dialling the emergency services.

Some of you sound to have had practise.....?

welbeck Fri 29-Oct-21 18:20:01

the judge and jury had all the facts before them.
we don't.
because some women are abused and driven to extreme acts, it does not follow that all homicides are in this category.
have you heard the 999 call. chilling. it's murder plain and simple.

Kandinsky Fri 29-Oct-21 18:20:20

She sounded far too pleased with herself after killing him, I’m certain she thought she’d only get a couple of years.

VANECAM Fri 29-Oct-21 18:20:39

Not sure why so many on here were so keen to jump to the defence of the accused.

So many people on here not relying on the evidence of the case but instead the evidence of their own life experiences.

That’s not how the law works.

MissAdventure Fri 29-Oct-21 18:21:38

The main thing is, that she has said whatever sentence she got will have been worth it.

JaneJudge Fri 29-Oct-21 18:27:40

'she could have just left'

Are you familiar with the freedom program? I know some of you are of a certain generation but please look into why people (women) can't just leave if they are being abused.

Sallywally1 Fri 29-Oct-21 18:29:11

I think her prison sentence will be less onerous that the prison she was in for 20 years with an abusive and violent bully. She will possibly feel she is more free now than when in her ‘marriage’.

Calmlocket Fri 29-Oct-21 18:29:42

I havent followed the whole story but papers Ive read all use the word 'alleged' abuse from her husband. The papers did mention an earlier incident when the daughter saw her mother threaten her father with a knife, that was two decades ago. Why didnt the daughter call the police?
The wifes downfall was when she was arrested and gloating about killing him and showing no remorse on what she had done.

JaneJudge Fri 29-Oct-21 18:33:56

itv news are reporting it happened the night before valentines day
and I think that says it all about how women are viewed and punished

Kandinsky Fri 29-Oct-21 18:36:56

I doubt she thinks that now she’s got 18 years.

MissAdventure Fri 29-Oct-21 18:37:34

I wouldn't deign to know.

I meant this woman only. The one we are discussing, not the wider issue.

Kandinsky Fri 29-Oct-21 18:45:02

Mind you, I’ve seen quite a few cases of ‘domestic murder’ where the killer has got less than 10 years.
A women stabbed her husband to death a few years back and only got 2 years!
