glad some Cons MPs had the guts to say this is totally wrong and would damage the Conservative Party and all who voted in favour- and of course Johnson.

This seems to back up what Grannyactivist has spotted.

There has been an outcry following the vote, and there is huge disquiet among Conservative MPs this morning. "We have started a fire and we have no idea how to put the fire out or which direction it will burn in,” Nigel Mills, a Conservative MP who voted against the move, tells Tim. He, despite voting against government orders, has already observed his inbox fill with anger from constituents. “What a disgusting bunch of immoral low lives you are,” read one message Mills received on Wednesday.

[New Statesman, Morning Call News Email]

This is the article it refers to

“Disgusting bunch of immoral low lives”

Just about sums them up.

Remember the MP who called them Scum?

Not far wrong was she?

What will happen now is that Johnson will be given the boot and they will then try with another leader, who they think they can sell to the public.

Leopard and spots springs to mind.

And………here comes the U turn!

GillT57 Thu 04-Nov-21 11:14:53

I have seen this morning that my MP has resorted to type and voted for this after redeeming himself, temporarily, by voting against the proposal to waive water standards and permit the dumping of untreated sewage in rivers. Time to email him again. Mind you, he holds the record for having to repay the largest amount of falsely claimed expenses during the MP's expenses scandal so I really should not be surprised. A few Tory supporters absent on this thread I notice, the ones who were the most vociferous in their condemnation of Angela Rayner's use of the word scum in particular. So, it's not a question of standards for some, it is just a matter of party. The word hypocrisy springs to mind

Jacob Rees-Mogg now saying: "I fear last night's debate conflated the individual case with the general concern"

News also just breaking is that at the time the government awarded Randox the contract brokered by Owen Paterson, the company moved all its interests offshore to the Isle of Man..

So Randox won’t be paying tax on government money!

Whitewavemark2 Thu 04-Nov-21 11:19:35

Fact

Paterson is still guilty.

Fact

Tories thought they could vote it away

Fact

They have screeched into a u-turn because of the reaction

Fact

They are a spineless group of scum.

25Avalon Thu 04-Nov-21 11:22:44

Was Sir David Ames’s spineless and scum?

Eh!

Nothing to do with a possible by election I don’t suppose?! According to the BBC if an MP is suspended for 30 days which Patterson was then it can end up with a recall petition which could result in a by election.

Unless there were to be a "man in a white suit", there's not much chance of the Tories losing Paterson's seat. Even if they did, they still have a huge majority.

Ha! I knew it wouldn't take long for Randox to be in the news. There's something about the company which seems more than a bit fishy.

No, he wasn't and that's why name-calling isn't appropriate.

Pathetic comment.

Daisymae Thu 04-Nov-21 11:32:49

Think that they have been surprised by the reaction. However I am sure they are busy trying to circumvent the objections to achieve what they want.

25Avalon Thu 04-Nov-21 11:34:04

WWM2 you said tories were spineless scum. David Amess was a Tory so following the logic he was spineless scum.

I just deplore all the nasty names and hate on GN.

grannyactivist Thu 04-Nov-21 11:34:11

I also wonder whether a ‘Martin Bell’ might step up growstuff, but sadly I can’t think of anyone with enough visible integrity who might unite the opposition and win over some of the Tory constituents

Whitewavemark2 Thu 04-Nov-21 11:37:49

The Cambridge definition of the term Scum is “a bad or immoral group of people”

Highly appropriate imo.

Dominic Grieve? I know he's a Tory, but at least he seems like the lesser spotted version (if you know what I mean).

25Avalon Thu 04-Nov-21 11:40:13

So David Ames’s was a bad or immoral person? I think not. So much outpouring of hate.

I wasn’t aware that Ames voted to overturn the corruption verdict of Paterson.

You really are scrapping the barrel here.

GillT57 Thu 04-Nov-21 11:47:13

Oh stop it 25 Avalon, we are not discussing the late Sir David Amess, stop using his name in vain, and at least spell it properly if you are going to throw him in as a deflection.

grannyactivist Thu 04-Nov-21 11:48:17

My own (Conservative) MP is being publicly excoriated by his own supporters - and he didn’t even vote. People are truly incensed about this and I think it’s because it was such a blatant case of cronyism that it left rank and file members with no way of defending it. This from someone who is leaving the party:

As someone who has been a lifelong Conservative voter, I’m appalled at this administration and I can no longer even try to defend it.

Dinahmo Thu 04-Nov-21 11:50:08

I doubt very much if Owen Patterson would have been paid the fee he received if he hadn't been an MP. Cheap at the price since the company gained orders amounting to £132 million from he govt.

The good news is that there has been a U turn and there will be another vote on his suspension. Possibly it will be held just before the next recess so 30 days suspension won't mean a lot.

Many Tory MPs complaining about mail they've received and Peter Bone's office was vandalised by a disgruntled constituent.

27 Labour MPs didn't vote but before anybody gets upset - the reason was that they were paired with Tory MPs who couldn't vote for one reason or another.

25Avalon Thu 04-Nov-21 11:53:26

I am tired GIllT57 of insulting derogatory hateful remarks. If people have a point to make fine and want to make a good argument that’s fine but resorting to insulting language is not. My predictive text keeps getting the name wrong. If we were referring to a BAME of LGBTQ+ in those terms we would quite rightly be banned.

Dinahmo Thu 04-Nov-21 11:53:52

I forgot to add - another reason for the reversal is that Tory MPs are rather annoyed by the media round Patterson did yesterday. He's also blaming the investigation for his wife's suicide last year

25Avalon Thu 04-Nov-21 11:54:15

Or not of
