Where are the Green Party?

We've had nothing but COP26 this week and rightly so, but there has been no mention of the Green Party. Surely this would have been a time for them to raise their profile, but I've not even heard them mentioned or seen anyone from that party speaking on TV. TBH I've no idea who their leader is now. What do we all think about this sad state of affairs? We need this party to gain more recognition if we're to reduce our carbon footprint and this could be their finest hour if only they showed their face.

Who won?

Oopsadaisy1 Tue 09-Nov-21 18:14:54

At our last Local Elections the Green Party stood aside for the Labour Party, IMO that was a mistake

I think there is evidence to show that puberty blockers do cause harm. Someone took the Tavistock Clinic (I think) to court over this, and although she did not win her legal point, the woman concerned outlined, in court and outside, just what damage had been done to her by these drugs.

I'm with others on here about the Green Party's stance on TWAW, won't vote Tory, Libdem and Labour are both the same as the Greens on this issue. I wonder how many candidates the SDP will put up?

GrannyMacawell Tue 09-Nov-21 15:02:31

I have also read on their website that puberty blockers in children do not cause long term harm. pretty sure that hasn't been proven yet.

I gave up on the Green Party when their manifesto included a policy point on how greyhounds ran round stadiums and their economic policy was essentially the montarism that was so discredited under Mrs Thatcher.

TWAW = Trans Women Are Women (I think!) Rosiebee. It certainly seems to be distracting the Greens from other, arguably more important and relevant, topics during COP26. hmm

Rosiebee Mon 08-Nov-21 17:21:48

Sorry but am I being dim?
TWAW???? hmm

@ Calistemon Weren't a lot of cavity walls found to be carelessly constructed with builders' waste dropped on the metal ties and causing a 'bridge' to allow damp across?

That could be it, MaizieD but some buildings are not suitable for cavity wall insulation apparently

We've not had a problem (so far ?) and ours is recycled glass wool.

I looked into this years ago. I do not have cavity walls - Cottage built of blonde sandstone 135 years ago. All they could offer was internal insulation boarding, which would have required redecorating throughout at my own expense. I did not have savings to cover this and the savings in heating costs would have been minimal.

We have similar. Stone built, 300yrs old. We have double glazed windows everywhere and the recommended amount of loft insulation. The stone walls seem to retain heat well once warmed. They only lose it if we're away from home for a few days. No need for wall insulation.

(It's lovely and cool in summer, too grin )

I saw Caroline Lucas on the panel of a meeting in Glasgow this week - on TV - I wasn't actually there smile If you didn't know who she was, you wouldn't have known as the report didn't mention it. It could well be that they are not getting the coverage, as CarlyD7 says.

CarlyD7 Mon 08-Nov-21 12:10:09

It's worth remembering how small The Green Party is and how low in funds they are - they don't take £millions from big business owners, apparently! It does restrict their ability to get their message out.

CarlyD7 Mon 08-Nov-21 12:08:41

My cousin is in the Green Party and he says that they constantly try to get coverage but the press isn't interested - only in sucking up to the government and covering scandals to get a good "sound bite". Reasonable-sounded people who speak common sense, apparently, doesn't make good copy! (PS he also said that too much of their time has been taken up recently with the trans issue - that's his opinion; no idea if it's true).

I'm surprised, varian
Various schemes have been going for years, not just for low-income families and I know many people who had extra loft insulation and cavity wall insulation done free of charge.

Mind you, I am not a great believer in cavity wall insulation as I suspect it can cause damp and I hear that some has had to be removed.

The government’s flagship green homes grant scheme to help people install energy efficiency measures resulted in just 15,182 households on low incomes improving their property’s insulation, it has emerged.

The £1.5bn scheme was designed to improve 600,000 properties but, according to data uncovered by the Liberal Democrats, only a small number of homes benefited from funding for much-needed improvements.

Aveline

Alegrias sigh. I read a letter from 30 inventors, engineers and physicists who all had important potentially useful plans but weren't allowed at COP26. That conference can only have been a talking shop.

I didn't realise that Aveline
It does make me despair.

There are a lot of people beavering away with ideas and plans but we only hear the negatives not the positives.

I didn't use beavering away lightly, either. They are helping in their own way too.

The government won't fund them.

I speak from experience.

Aveline Sun 07-Nov-21 09:56:32

I'm just so fed up with all the marching and talking about the need to save the planet. It's OK . We know. Now where are the clever engineers, inventors and designers plans? Time to move on to those.

Gwyneth Sun 07-Nov-21 09:45:29

I think the Green Party need to be making themselves known. Every month I am involved in a litter pick in our town. We have one Green town councillor. I have never seen him join in with the litter pick although our Labour MP has done so. Today is our litter pick morning so I’m off maybe the Green Councillor will turn up this time!

GrannyMacawell thank you for that link, very interesting. Sorry, I forgot to thank you yesterday smilethanks

grannyrebel7 Sat 06-Nov-21 18:14:20

Sounds like the Green Party are focusing more on TW rights than the environment atm.

GrannyMacawell Sat 06-Nov-21 10:51:47

Fanny. These do
sdp.org.uk/policies/transgender-and-biological-sex-based-rights/

yes they are small.,but I have joined and hope they have a candidate in the next election

Alegrias1 Sat 06-Nov-21 10:45:10

The co-leader of the Scottish Green Party has Covid.
