By the end of this month? Parliament may well get to vote on it although technically this isn’t essential.

I know I’m less intellectual than some on here.

I'm trying to find a word for someone who says contentious things but then feigns ignorance so they don't get blamed for it.

Anyone help?

"I’m certain most people (the majority I’d bet) don’t even think much about it and are enjoying getting on with their lives and families."

Have you done any research on this claim?

GrannyGravy13 was pushing this line a few weeks ago. That most people only think about politics just before a GE.

There! Research done!

I am sure many of us are very concerned about the situation but see no point in expressing views on GN!

What's the little "GB" all about?

Urmstongran Mon 08-Nov-21 12:13:02

I know I’m less intellectual than some on here. I garner views from 4 main sites - the Telegraph, the Guardian, the Daily Mail and SKY news. I try to evaluate what I’m being told. If I’m wrong on some points I apologise.

Still feel the same about voting Brexit though.
It felt so good I wish I could do it again.
??

I know. Different opinions do count though. Even if exasperating and annoying.

I’m not as clued up as some. I realise that. But I also think I’m more engaged than some too. Maybe too much time is spent hashing over the ramifications of that vote. I’m certain most people (the majority I’d bet) don’t even think much about it and are enjoying getting on with their lives and families.

Well, seeing as you ask... wink

Twice in the last 24 hours you have posted your opinion about things. In both cases they are not opinions, they are misrepresentations of the facts. (How international collaboration happens in science and how the NI protocol works) So anybody who does that, and bases their decisions about the big things on erroneous interpretation of the way things work, isn't necessarily dim.

But they might be... mistaken? Misled? Naïve? Culpable?

Urmstongran Mon 08-Nov-21 11:43:03

Am I really. Just so much dimmer than everyone else? Or do I just hold a different opinion that gets continually shot down?
I believe in Brexit.
It’s what I voted for.
In fact, there was no mention on the voting slip at the time of the referendum for a deal.
Thanks to Benn we couldn’t leave without one which seriously tied the hands of our negotiators!

Urmstongran Mon 08-Nov-21 11:37:57

Thank you for trying anyway Alegrias. I do appreciate it. It’s more than some do towards me.

Alegrias1 Mon 08-Nov-21 11:33:46

At the risk of repeating myself from last night...

You really have no conception of how this works.

According to other threads, we should be tolerant of other's opinions and not be rude. I try not to be rude to you Urmstongran, but you do try my patience. angry

Urmstongran Mon 08-Nov-21 11:30:25

If the U.K. walks away from this nonsense the ROI and the EU have a big headache over maintaining the integrity of their SM border.

You would have thought the EU would bend over backwards in helping the U.K. as we have solved that problem for them - yet they want to poke us in the eye for taking the border inside the U.K.

Alegrias1 Mon 08-Nov-21 11:25:58

That's even worse then. sad

Urmstongran Mon 08-Nov-21 11:25:01

I do.

Alegrias1 Mon 08-Nov-21 11:23:23

Urmstongran

Imagine if we tried to annexe Corsica or Sicily!

Imagine if the French told us we could treat Corsica differently and then complained when we treated Corsica differently!

Honestly, I don't think you really believe this stuff you post, do you Urmstongran?

Urmstongran Mon 08-Nov-21 11:20:09

Imagine if we tried to annexe Corsica or Sicily!

Urmstongran Mon 08-Nov-21 11:19:27

What? For allowing food and medicines between two parts of the UK?

Alegrias1 Mon 08-Nov-21 10:58:29

I refer you to my post of 10:01, m'lud.

Urmstongran Mon 08-Nov-21 10:57:12

I’m sure I’m not the only one to weary of the continual threats coming from the EU? I am heartily sick of their bluster, lies and attempts to bully.

Has anyone noticed that, the more they realise our government is deadly serious, the more frantic they become?

Trigger Article 16 and let us get on with it. Merry Christmas EU.

Alegrias1 Mon 08-Nov-21 10:19:17

Kali2 I tried to PM you but it won't go through. flowers

Alegrias1 Mon 08-Nov-21 10:01:03

I'm not sure which would be worse...

People thinking that triggering Article 16 would be a good thing to show them Frenchies just what we think of them and their bullying ways...

Or people who don't care but think its fun to makes jokes about yet another disaster that this government could be bringing down on our heads.

sad

Kali2 Mon 08-Nov-21 09:52:06

Yes, I am sure you are right here.

But it is so so serious, it just can't be allowed to happen.

Not a single GN member here has come up with anything good that could come out of a full on Trade War with the EU. Not a single advantage, Not a single product that the 27 could not just supply to each other simply and without tarifs or checks, to each other.

With a short period of adjustment- they can just continue as always- selling, buying, sharing, cooperating - with each other, with the support of the USA- and just forget the UK exists.

westendgirl Mon 08-Nov-21 09:20:34

Thank you Kalil for pointing out that Frost and Johnson negotiated the deal, signed for it , so what are they playing at ?
If it isnt fit for purpose why did they sign it ?
I think it is Johnson trying to use it as a cover, so he can wriggle out of investigations into his corrupt deals .
It really is time he went .

Kali2 Mon 08-Nov-21 09:03:08

As for being 'down to Brussels' - I am afraid this is nonsense. It is Frost and Johnson that negotiated this Deal, called it oven ready and perfect, and are now refusing to implement. Brussels is 100% correct to insist it is implemented as agreed.

At the end of the day- the 27 + USA will stick together and they have everything they need to supply each other without any tarifs, checks or borders. With a bit of readjustment, they can just about forget about the UK altogether.

Kali2 Mon 08-Nov-21 08:59:52

I asked somewhere else and here are some of the answers:

The problem is that Englandshire thinks that as Article 16 relates to NI it won’t effect them. Sadly it’s that mentality that keeps them supporting Johnson’s lunatic ideas!
If it happens, I can see a burst of support for Johnson followed by the realisation that he’s pressed the so called nuclear option button, turning the whole of the U.K. into an untrustworthy Union that no one can trust on deals, now signed or any future ones. Basically a pariah state.
I hope people wise up before the next GE!

It's simple. The consequence of the UK triggering article 16 will be a trade war with the EU. this will be a short term disaster for the UK but might hurt enough that the less hard core brexiteers finally realise the UKs place in the world. The more hard core ones are a lost cause.

Johnson is using this as a distraction away from the Paterson debacle and the investigations into some of the Covid contracts, and personal investigations on holidays in Mustique, the refurbishment of the flat, holiday in Marbella in exchange for a peerage, and peerages given for big Tory donors, etc.

Katie59 Mon 08-Nov-21 08:18:06

They won’t trigger article 13 it would cause chaos, the EU know that.
Why the U.K. thinks it an leave the club and then take advantage of the parts they like is beyond me. Not only that, we could have adopted EU standards in several industries but decided to invent our own, which nobody recognizes.
National vandalism!.
