... and we can get on with life. Well the getting on with life bit may be difficult but their heading is:

The furious Red Wall Tory backlash that could kill off brigade of veteran Tory backbenchers who battled for Brexit dubbed The Spartans

It is being described in Westminster as 'the end of the Spartans' – the brigade of veteran Tory backbenchers who battled for Brexit and made Theresa May's life a misery but ended up dying on the hill of Owen Paterson's business interests.

Apparently "those close to Downing Street" think this will push through changes at No 10.

That’s rather dismissive growstuff!

I’m finding GN particularly confusing this morning

Ditto!

I would have thought that no matter how much one loathes the DM they have to agree that the DM did the right thing. The Lawrence's managed to get some justice for the killing of their much loved son.

Even stopped analogue clocks tell the right time twice a day.

Calistemon

Excuse typos - I can spell before I get flak for that too
?

I have to go out, anyone want me to buy them a Daily Mail while I'm out?

No thanks! I can get my daily quota of pictures of minor celebs showing their toned abs, royal family gossip and stories about wokeness to make my pearls jangle from reading the DM online.

PS. It was very thoughtful of you to think of other GNers.

MerylStreep

Callistemon was silly enough to walk across someone’s line of sight, so was therefore an easy target.

Actually, I think some people are not very good at reading posts which contain quotes which contain quotes which contain quotes iyswim, MerylStreep
Who said what to whom?

Calistemon knows what the headlines are because she's presumably read the link she posted, which has links to all the headlines from the last few years.

Yes, of course read every single headline before I posted that helpful link ???
It took me hours and hours

Don't make assumptions, growstuff!
I found a helpful page with links to DM headlines over the years by googling and thought it would be useful 9n this thread as everyone seemed to be arguing about the DM and its ourageous headlines!
In fact it was just an exercise and I was interested that such a page existed. ?

That's all.

Am I getting flak? If so, I don't see why.

I’m hoping that someone will start a thread about antimacassars, or dishcloths or something soon

I didn’t approve MaizieD and would have been delighted to see those accused in that headline protest their innocence and take the newspaper to court and get reparations for the damage to their reputations...

Their reputations? Really?

Is this sarcasm? I'm a bit slow this morning.

FannyCornforth Mon 08-Nov-21 09:34:48

Exactly Zoe! Thank you for the link

I’m not ashamed of my reaction to the DM’s investigation into and coverage of the Lawrence case.
It was brilliant

Stephen Lawrence's parents thanked the Daily Mail. I think they know more about it than people on GN.

“Do the people who read it 'for balance' approve of front pages like this?”

The whole point of balance in two extreme points of view of course, is that centrists meet somewhere in the middle!

The Mail was in the OP because it talked about the end of "The Brexit". So, who knew that some people would already be so ashamed about their vote in the referendum that they would do anything to avoid talking about it. In this case, stir up a shouting match against a newspaper - or several newspapers.

So let's not discuss the end of "The Brixit". Let's not discuss the beginning of dealing with all the detritus that has heaped upon us. Let's just shout like four-year-olds - including at our neighbours and trading partners in the EU - because, let's face it, the shouty people were the sort of people who voted to leave, weren't they.

Maizie I believe that it was a bit more complicated than that

Sorry, most people don't 'do' complicated. They do knee jerk reaction and front pages such as this encourage it.

Which country do you live in Hetty that thinks all UK newspapers are ‘a joke’ ? Or is that merely your own take on it?
There are so many good journalists in the UK, and excellent columnists and editorials.
Some newspapers were/are very good at exposing all kinds of murky things that need to see the light, and certainly the Express and Daily Mail were very good in that respect.

MaizieD Mon 08-Nov-21 08:58:29

FannyCornforth

This wasn’t so funny was it?

It's horrific! No newspaper has the right to be judge and jury, however much their conclusions might be correct. The place for judgements like this is a court of law, not the front page of a newspaper. All this does is encourage a lynch mob mentality.

Do the people who read it 'for balance' approve of front pages like this?

Hetty58 Mon 08-Nov-21 08:47:45

FannyCornforth, I realise that many people read the 'news' merely for entertainment (or the crossword) and don't really want to know what's going on. Fair enough, I suppose, as UK newspapers are a joke, internationally, anyway.

Some people believe the tabloid content is true though - and that's a worry.

I try to avoid the cr*p, keep a weather eye on the (sadly lacking) BBC stuff and read the APnews.com online.
