So he was told in advance that he would be required to wear a mask during his visit. He did wear one then took it off, and was reminded to wear one again, did for a short time and took it off again.
Already other hospitals and Doctors reporting people refusing to wear mask and when asked to do so reply with ' ah well if the PM does not wear one, I don't have to either'.
Exemple? Leadership? Selfishness? Worse!
Thank you MayBee I will do that when he returns tomorrow.
Sorry about you MIL. Please pass on my condolences to your husband. x
That is the usual advice MayBee but unfortunately not all follow the advice. Boris Johnson is one person, and it annoys me because I think it sends the wrong message. My husband has gone to where his elderly parents live this week because his mother has been in hospital for six out of the last eight weeks. Very sadly today she died. My husband has been visiting her whilst she was on palliative care, no visitors are allowed except for palliative care patients as there’s Covid in the hospital. My husband has told me that there were people wandering about in the hospital without masks on. He was very annoyed about it. He said it’s no wonder that area has high Covid cases, because the public aren’t responsible. If they’ve seen Boris Johnson on the news this week, it’s not surprising. Having said that, I do believe in taking personal responsibility, and these people are not doing that.
I’m visiting Dublin I’m so impressed with the mask wearing by everyone and vaccine certificate checks in cinema museum restaurant and no fuss I’m actually ashamed of our attitude in England
Strange because in every medical situation I’ve been in recently everyone is told to wear a mask. I suppose on planet Johnson it’s different.
Which is of course, absolute nonsense. In a Hospital, you wear a mask, everyone- and he had been told about this beforehand. Senior Managers at the Hospital should have asked him to leave, and if not them, any other member of staff. About time people got the guts to stand up to him openly.
He now says he was following guidelines….
Our country appears to be run by the village idiot,.
Now he’s using rising Covid numbers in Europe to excuse our already high numbers, when last month we had more Covid infections than France, Germany, Italy and Spain put together.

If he is not able to wear a mask, he should not go on photo ops in hospitals- very simple! Senior management should have told him, and asked him to leave immediately if he did not comply on second occasion.

He was handed one, mumbled, put it on then took it off again a bit later.
I think that was the clip I saw, him being handed it and then the mumble, I wasn't sure what the mumble was.

Maybe I dreamt it but I think they showed a clip on the news last night where he was asked to put it on and did. Or it might have been someone handing him the mask.
... which is why I said... "If it's true" and that I never quite believe all I read in the media.
But he certainly was not wearing one in the photo' of him striding along the corridor, nor at the COP26 meeting when he sat next to Attenborough. And he doesn't wear one in the HoC.
Thankyou Maizie it is lovely up here.
I like the way I appear to be taking personal responsibility for its loveliness
Lucca I am from Haydon Bridge originally, so went to the high school there, we thought you QE lot were the posh ones
When anything like this happens Johnson always refers us back to what his advisors have told him. Am I the only one to be a little perturbed that the man who is supposed to be running the country seems to have permanent advisors to tell him things that anyone else would think were common sense? I saw someone describing him as grotesque - I thought that was the perfect word.

The rules are that you wear a mask in a hospital or at the GP Surgery. That means everyone, whoever they are.
Where I live it is any healthcare setting, I'm in SW England. So pharmacy, dentist, GP, physio clinic and GP are all places I've been where masks are required unless you are exempt.
I seem to have visited the GP twice there, sorry, to balance it up I did miss the podiatrist (not for me DH is diabetic and goes regularly and I'm his carer.)
Dickens
If it's true (I never quite believe all I read in the media) that he was asked a couple of times to put on his mask - did so and then removed it - it's just another illustration of his contempt for the norms and standards of behaviour that we expect from our ministers and politicos. Witness also the photo' of him at the COP26 meeting where he is sitting, maskless, next to other older and therefore more vulnerable attendees. I'm sure he doesn't feel comfortable in a face mask and that's understandable, but others managed it and if he had any respect for them, he could have too.
I don't think Johnson genuinely cares much about anything other than his own personal ambition and believe that he is a ruthless, determined, entitled, individual. He can, and does, do what he wants because he has the support of his majority, many of whom I suspect will forgive or ignore his failings because he has given them what they craved.
I'm not simply 'Boris bashing' - I never like to believe that anyone is wholly, irredeemably a bad person, but I cannot find anything about the man that speaks of compassion, empathy, understanding or consideration for others, or care for the general 'wellbeing' of the nation as a whole. I don't think he's evil or even deliberately nasty, but I do believe he's an unsparing, ego-driven, manipulator, so I am not at all surprised that he didn't obey the rules that applied to everyone else at Hexham.

ayse 'Maybe he does have a problem wearing a mask just as DH does.'
then he just should NOT go on photo ops into hospitals! Simple.

Boris said he was going to loose weight after Covid. I don’t see any sign of that but it would definitely help his breathing.
Galaxy
I live near Hexham, unless he went to Scotland he couldnt have got much further away from the HOC.
Ooh do you Galaxy ? I went to QEGS Hexham !
Riverwalk
I mentioned on another thread that he looked overweigtht and breathless at an appearance at COP - it was a longish walk from his car then across a stage or something, then took his mask off and he seemed to be breathing heavily.
Maybe after having Covid he finds masks difficult, in which case he would be exempt, but of course he would never admit to that.
He always looks ill at ease in a mask.
Maybe he does have a problem wearing a mask just as DH does. The difference is that DH wears one going to the GP, on the bus and yesterday having our Covid booster. DH has had breathing problems ever since Covid plus a heart murmur.
Johnson should be leading by example, not one rule for him and another rule for others. If he isn’t able to wear one for health reasons perhaps he should tell us all. He’s a very poor excuse for a PM.
Oh come on, Riverwalk, you're talking about a man at peak fitness. Doesn't he go jogging every morning? We saw pictures of him doing it at Conference time... ?
Though I do understand that the excuse of Long covid could cover a lot of his boorish behaviour...

I was just wondering if he came from Newcastle to Hexham by train just to make the journey as time consuming as possible ?
The ploy didn't really work, though. He was back in London a good hour or so before the debate ended. He had plenty of time to get to Parliament...
(Lovely part of the world to live in, Galaxy)
