Hexham Hospital and NO mask for Johnson.

So he was told in advance that he would be required to wear a mask during his visit. He did wear one then took it off, and was reminded to wear one again, did for a short time and took it off again.

Already other hospitals and Doctors reporting people refusing to wear mask and when asked to do so reply with ' ah well if the PM does not wear one, I don't have to either'.

Exemple? Leadership? Selfishness? Worse!

This should help, if you go into hospital.

Excellent

Thank you so much Grannynannywanny.
I’m quite appalled that anyone would enter a hospital without a mask on, and especially our Prime Minister, who should be setting an example. He’s just lost his own mother (not from Covid I don’t think) and he should be aware that those of us with vulnerable old relatives in hospital are concerned that if others follow his example, those relatives are at much more risk.

ayse 'Maybe he does have a problem wearing a mask just as DH does.'

then he just should NOT go on photo ops into hospitals! Simple.

I absolutely agree with you. DH has great difficulties breathing but still complies

I think Boris Johnson should have been told before the cameras showed him so that he was wearing a mask when filmed. Otherwise it gives out the wrong message

From what has been said by the hospital management he was told. An email was sent outlining the hospital guidelines in preparation for the visit. It’s shameful that he even needs to be told.

Sorry to read of the sad loss of your mother in law maddyone and now your father in law in hospital. A sad time for your family ?

Thank you Rosie. She was 94 and poorly, so not unexpected, but sad nonetheless. The worst thing is her poor 94 year old husband was taken very ill yesterday, on the day she died, and had to be admitted to hospital himself, with a chest infection. Poor old man. At least they’ve put him in a private room and because of the circumstances, are allowing one visitor. I just hope people in the hospital will wear masks, it’s so irresponsible not to, and against hospital policy. I really think Boris Johnson gave out the wrong message when he appeared in a hospital without a mask. It’s just not good enough.

I don't disagree with that at all Kali2.

Kali2 Sat 13-Nov-21 10:36:59

And they could indeed have done it politely, but firmly.

I suppose they must have felt trapped Kali2. They would either have to make a personal protest - which would require a huge amount of courage and perhaps cause them trouble in their job - or just accept the uncomfortable situation. To me they would fall into the category of people who, even if they wanted to walk away, were required to just grit their teeth and stand there in the course of their duties.

Ordinary staff yes- but the Senior Managers present could have just said - could we have a word in private please. Reminded him that it was clear he had to wear a mask, prior to the visit- and ask him to do so or leave.

Also, people generally are polite aren't they. People smile and press on - I do generally and often kick myself later. That's why people like Johnson who don't care about the feelings of others get away with behaving badly and not following the rules and norms the majority abide by.

AAAAAARGGH!!!

Completely messed that one up!

"They didn't have to smile, did they?"

They didn't have smile, though, did they?

How did the Hospital, Staff and patients, choose to do so???

He was clearly told in advance wearing a mask was required at all times during the visit. He repeatedly chose not to wear one, even after being handed a mask and reminded ...

When Johnson and his entourage came to Somerset his tour was rerouted because of protestors carrying banners saying, amongst other things, 'Go home you fat clown' and 'Tory Policy Kills'. I don't think his advisors were keen on that kind of photo opportunity.

People don't have to meet him and so I must assume that those who do choose to do so or required to do so in the course of their duties.

Kali2 Sat 13-Nov-21 09:19:09

Exactly Fleur.

Fleur20 Sat 13-Nov-21 09:15:22

What I dont understnd is the line of NHS staff greeting him... why did they not react.... hand him a mask.. turn their back to him.. in front of the cameras... make a point.
Personally I would not choose to be in the same room as this bumptious obnoxious man... let alone collude with him in a photo call.

The hospital has released the e-Mail sent to Johnson outlining the requirement that masks should be worn at all times

The day after the hospital photo op Dominic Raab spoke in defence of the PM and said he’d followed the hospital guidance on mask wearing. Maybe he should have checked the facts first before trying to defend the indefensible.

Exactly

Maybe I dreamt it but I think they showed a clip on the news last night where he was asked to put it on and did. Or it might have been someone handing him the mask.

... which is why I said... "If it's true" and that I never quite believe all I read in the media.

But he certainly was not wearing one in the photo' of him striding along the corridor, nor at the COP26 meeting when he sat next to Attenborough. And he doesn't wear one in the HoC.

Did you know Dr Bell ?

It annoys me to see politicians visiting residents in care homes for a photo opportunity even if they are wearing a mask. My mother went into a care home in April 2020 and I have never been allowed inside her home, I’ve not seen her bedroom, where she eats or watches tv. I can only see her once a week for half an hour after I’ve taken an LFT at the home. I’ve sat in a gazebo, in a tiny pod with a screen between us talking through a microphone or sitting in the reception area with a Carer watching us the whole time.

Yet these people come and go, don’t always wear the ppe I have to and I bet they don’t have a test first.

It’s just not fair!

Sorry to hear of your husband's and your loss maddyone it's so tough reconciling what was maybe inevitable with the total disregard of those who should be setting an example. Restrictive visiting of the terminally ill is horrendous, but so many have accepted it as necessary to combat Covid, then we have the village idiot....... I send best wishes and concern to you and your husband at this difficult and extremely sad time. xx
