Johnson’s lack of respect

To turn up looking like a tramp is showing clear disrespect to all the fallen.

It is funny or clever, it is a disgrace.

I’m clearly shallow as I’m one of those people who thinks people in certain positions should make an effort . I always thought some teachers should have worn something other than dingy black trousers a nondescript blouse and baggy cardigan…poor kids having to look at that all day!

And as for Boris…he’s a world leader for goodness sake.

Calistemon Sun 14-Nov-21 15:08:13

I'm sure they have personal stylists in some stores

JaneJudge Sun 14-Nov-21 15:23:55

They do, John Lewis does for example and it's hardly a chore to go to John Lewis

To me he looks massively hungover.

To me he looks like a man who needs a good nights sleep.

Well for me, it wasn't about Boris or anyone else. It was about remembering and honouring our war dead In both world wars and subsequent wars. It was about realising the sacrifices made by both them and the survivors of war. The music, some of which moved me to tears, the precision of the armed forces, the wonderful bagpipes, the Chelsea pensioners, Children and Gentlemen of the chapel royal, together with the wonderful Bishop of London helped to make it for me, one of the most moving and enjoyable Remembrance Sundays ever held. It was just fantastic. Everyone played their part with the utmost respect including Boris. I am though concerned about HM, could be more to this than is being let on.

I don't expect politicians to be fashionable but I really think it is a basic expectation that a man who is representing the UK as Prime Minister, at a major military event should be tidy and wear clothes that fit.

The suit jacket is too tight and the shirt appears to be strangling him which is why the collar points are sticking out over the jacket collar at odd angles. I don't care if he buys one from Savile Row, John Lewis (despite Carrie's aspersions) or rents one from Moss Bros). Tidy and fitting is a minimum requirement.

As an aside I looked back at the much derided Foot/Corbyn photos and whatever their choices of outerwear at least they wore suits/shirts that fit underneath

Baggs Sun 14-Nov-21 15:39:48

Well said, jabberwok.

grannyrebel7 Sun 14-Nov-21 15:49:26

He looked an absolute disgrace at the service last night, a little better at the Cenotaph this morning I suppose. What is wrong with the man? I always feel ashamed of him especially when he's representing us on the world stage.

Dinahmo Sun 14-Nov-21 15:49:29

In his position a tailor could be arranged to visit Downing Street to measure BJ and return for fittings. He doesn't need to trawl the stores to look for a suit.

Yes, I know, as I suggested earlier, so my remark about a personal shopper was tongue-in-cheek

Calistemon Sun 14-Nov-21 16:51:02

Jabberwok Of course, you are absolutely right and I can't comment on this morning's service as I haven't seen it yet.

However, when all had made such great efforts perhaps our PM should too.

Jabberwok Sun 14-Nov-21 16:57:26

Thank you Baggs. Just wondering, apart from Boris and his attire, what did others on here think of the ceremony itself? Did you find it both uplifting and deeply moving? The excellent commentary, the thought provoking interviews, the haunting music, the march past? Only asking.

Calistemon Sun 14-Nov-21 17:06:35

I just watched a short clip and thought Johnson looked quite smart this morning in a coat.
I haven't seen it all, though.

Rosina Sun 14-Nov-21 17:39:12

I'm not sure there is a tailor alive who could do anything about Boris Johnson. I saw that photo of him with the other leaders at the summit, and thought he looked as if someone had thrown his clothes at him and missed. In the line up was Macron, immaculate in French tailoring. It was almost funny. Has anyone ever seen BJ look even remotely tidy and smart?

I just kept worrying that someone was going to fall over backwards after laying their wreath….they all looked quite nervous. And was also worried about Ian Blackford bending over in his kilt…….blush

Jabberwok Sun 14-Nov-21 18:09:19

Oh well. I wasn't really talking about the political folk, although it was good to see all the High Commissioners, but the ceremony as a whole and the reason for it. It was good to see all those young people marching as well as the veterans, and the sea of poppies was amazing.

Great post @ 15.34 Jabberwok I completely agreesmile.

I thought it was respectful and fitting. Prince Charles looked upset when laying a wreath on behalf of the Queen.

After the wallpapergate comments I wonder if John Lewis will let him in?

Jabberwok Sun 14-Nov-21 18:24:14

He did. I guess losing his father, the upset with Prince Harry and now his mother obviously not well, not to forget Prince Andrew! has all taken its toll. Thank goodness for Prince William who took the salute with much solemnity.

I particularly noticed the people who were evacuated as children, marching with their labels on. Some really didn't look old enough.

Prince Charles looked upset, Princess Anne looked well, Prince William was very dignified. The Duke of Kent didn't look well.

Oh of course,St. Macron, can’t do anything wrong can he.? The important thing is our PM attended, in a smart black coat, to commemorate all those lost in all the Wars.

theworriedwell Sun 14-Nov-21 19:32:40

Well Macron does always look smart, I think Trudeau is the same. It's just the truth.

Zoejory Sun 14-Nov-21 19:47:01

Macron, Trudeau, Obama and many others have bodies that are perfect to hang clothes on.

Boris does not have such a body.

However I thought he looked OK this morning.
