Johnson’s lack of respect

To turn up looking like a tramp is showing clear disrespect to all the fallen.

It is funny or clever, it is a disgrace.

If the worst that could be said of our PM was that he had a hair out of place or his tie wasn't straight we'd all have something to celebrate.

Some people just don't look smart no matter what they do. I had a friend who you could dress head to toe in the most expensive designer suits - and he would still look like he had been dragged through a hedge backwards!

How people look is probably more noticeable today as all the Service people are just so smart.
Johnson does need a good tailor - if things fitted him properly he would look better and most likely feel better too. He did have a new navy suit which looked good quite recently. Many off the peg suits do not fit so well because people are not ‘even’ both sides of their body - often noticeable by the way jackets fit around the shoulder/collar area. It is interesting watching a tailor fitting a man for a suit. My father always needed to have his suits made to get a good fit and my first husband did as he could have two pairs of trousers to each jacket - Jackets spend much office time on the back of chairs - not a luxury offered to the trousers!
Shirt collars are another on the smartness scale - separate collars which went to the Chinese Laundry were a thing of the 60s and always looked smart and crisp.

Whatever the jacket was, Micheal Foot had a reputation for being ‘scruffy’ even though he was an excellent politician.
It’s pathetic really how we judge people on whether their tie is completely straight or they have a hair out of place.
Some really horrible people on this thread.

Johnson is judged by far more than just his scruffiness. That's just the final straw.

You're right about the service people Welshwife. I thought he was at a terrible disadvantage last night compared to the royal family who all looked impeccable.

Lets face it. Many men need the once over before going out somewhere important. He looks uncared for; perhaps Jennifer A's pillow-talk diary in the Sunday papers soured the mood at breakfast.

Was it a Labour leader who wore a donkey jacket one year?

At least Boris is wearing a suit. smile

It was a duffle coat

Yes and it works the other way too though, admittedly, this is less common. Some people look smart in clothes that would look scruffy on someone else. I wonder if it partly about how people carry themselves.

If we're talking extra-marital affairs then Michael Foot wasn't an innocent.

He didn't get a chance to prove himself (or not) as Prime Minister so we'll never know.

There was at time when he used to look tidier & cleaner and it is so important, he's the leader of this country & needs to smarten up & represent. No point wearing a Savile Row suit if it doesn't fit. Look like a clown and the world will treat you like a joke.

Baggs Sun 14-Nov-21 14:17:19

"Cleaner"?

"Cleaner"?

I would go along with “he used to look cleaner” I think quite frankly that his problem is almost certainly that he imbibes. We have a couple of friends who do the same, and they look very much like Johnson, - sort of flabby, paunchy and sweaty. It is a bad look particularly for the U.K. PM.

He, apparently, hires his suits for special occasions. It hasn’t improved things. He always looks a scruffy mess.

The man's a complete joke, a clown and huge embarrassment. To me, he's always looked scruffy, awkward and dishevelled. I assume he looks just like that to the rest of the world.

The major flaws, though, lie in what he says, what he does - and what he consistently fails to do. He might just get away with looking silly if he displayed some real intelligence - but no.

Yes I agree, but he invites it don’t you think?

BlueBelle Sun 14-Nov-21 14:38:21

I believe that looking as tidy and smart as possible spells respect I believe people however big or small can look smart how Johnson dresses spells ‘I couldn’t give a flying f ‘ or maybe he thinks people like the scruffy look his sister and brother both look clean and wholesome he looks sweaty and puffy and like he’s just got out of someone’s bed and quickly jumped into his clothes and run his hand through his thinning hair. ( and he probably has

Since you ask, no, that thought has not occurred to me.

£495 to hire a suit confused why doesn't he just get one made?
Made to measure suits for example but you can buy nice enough suits from Matalan but I think it's just the suit that is the problem

JaneJudge Sun 14-Nov-21 14:44:37

I think Priti Patel always looks very stylish (and I don't like her either grin )

JaneJudge Sun 14-Nov-21 14:45:55
