Flooding and landslides; our poor province

BC has been hit by catastrophic amounts of rain since the weekend, wreaking havoc on our infrastructure, and an unknown death toll still.

The lower mainland which has a population of almost 3 million has no rail or road connection to the rest of Canada, so supply chains have collapsed. All the highways and rail-lines are washed away. Of course this has led to silly hoarding of groceries and dry goods. The whole town of Merritt had to be evacuated; over 7000 people.

I pray for those who have unaccounted for loved ones, and for those displaced from their homes. The same towns devastated by wildfires and excessive heat this past summer are now flooded.

I live in the north; we still have an operating port, rail and highways connecting to the rest of Canada. Hopefully some different traffic flows for goods can be diverted. I'm sure all those involved in transport and infrastructure are stressed and working overtime. We are blessed that we, and our family have not been displaced by weather.

I’ve contacted my friend. She has already gone through that dreadful heat.

WWM2, I hope she is ok where she lives.

Haven’t heard yet. I guess the rain might have missed some areas

So sorry CanadianGran I do hope things improve for you all very quickly
Thinking of you all

WWM2 if you name her town or general area I can see what the situation is.

Oh thanks

Victoria BC. She lives on the coast. A glorious area.

I live in the state that borders BC and have been hearing about the troubles there. I hope we can help down here in anyway we can. We won't let you starve.

We were also part of that horrid heatwave and had the worst drought ever recorded. Now we've had more rain than we've ever seen before. We get only 9" of rain a year here so to hear rain all night long and into the next day is weird.

Good luck Canada.

Global warming - all these unusual weather patterns, world wide, and it will get worse.

It sounds awful. I was so sorry to hear of the problems in BC. I have such happy memories of Vancouver and Squamish. Hope your families are all OK and the clean up and rebuild proceeds rapidly.

Everyone is our town is fine, the heavy rain and flooding was in the south.

WWM2, your friend should be fine. My daughter lives in a suburb of Victoria, and they did not get hit as hard. They had power outages because of the wind, with trees falling on powerlines.

It may be months before they can repair some of the major highways. It is an awful situation that shows the power of mother nature.

Thanks CG

I’ve heard and yes she’s fine. But my goodness what a year! The rain levels sound similar to what Germany experienced earlier in the year.
