Says he is “keen to get my voice back”.

grannyrebel7..

Yes, I listen to Nick Abbot. What a hilarious wordsmith. Underrated.

To see the difference in BBC employees opinions you only have to watch the difference in Simon McCoy ( who I love?) now that he is on GB news.

That sums it up, 'to make the story more like he wanted it to be'
The BBC is supposed to be impartial, but so many of the reporters are becoming superstars the truth of the report is less important to them than a good story.
The newspapers are the same and each one has a particular slant, which is why when a political person is under discussion I go first to Wikipedia, which is mainly factual, although I know it is amended constantly and is not 100% trustworthy.
They certainly gave clear accounts of the careers of Azeem Rafiq and Owen Paterson, warts and all.

I complained to the BBC once about Nick Robertson whom I heard tell a lie about a senior politician I know for a fact it was a lie. I got an insipid response from the BBC about strong lines of questioning, politicians can expect to be questioned, yada yada yada.

A few years later on a documentary Robinson admitted he had "exaggerated a bit" to make the story be a bit more like he wanted it to be.

Wouldn't trust any of them as far as I could throw them.

BBC presenters are, in the main, scared to say boo to a goose in case they get on the wrong side of the government. Today programme on Radio 4 is a prime example - apart from Nick Robinson telling the PM to stop talking when he was waffling as usual.

Nick Ferrari on LBC wipes the floor with ministers - they must dread going on his daily programme!

I'd like to see Andrew Neil take over from Marr.

On a related issue, I read that Dacre has pulled out of his bid for the Ofcom job.

FT reports that Johnson does not want to fan the flame of being accused of further sleaze, because he is again interfering in an independent watchdog.

Dacre denies that Johnson had anything to do with his decision, even though Johnson pulled out all stops by relaunching the appointment procedure after Dacre had been rejected because he was deemed “not appointable” .

Interesting comment. I would like to hear him expand on it.

I think British politics and public life are going to go through an even more turbulent decade, and as I’ve said, I am keen to get my own voice back.

I heard Andrew marr on the radio explaining about wanting his own voice. He said “when you join the BBC your opinion organs are snipped off and put in a jar until you leave”. ?

Me too. She’s polite, doesn’t interrupt and knows her onions.

I don’t care who takes over from Andrew Marr because I prefer the Sophie Ridge on Sunday show which is on at the same time on SkyNews. At the moment Trevor Phillips is hosting it as Sophie Ridge is on maternity leave. He’s good too. I’ve always liked him.

Yep! I really like Sophie Ridge.??

WWM2 perhaps because Conservatives do not mindlessly follow their leader, right or wrong and are capable of making independent judgements about people, regardless of their political affiliations.

I shan’t reply, as even you must appreciate the ridiculousness of your post.

Monica is absolutely right in both her posts on this thread,
There is so much lumping of everyone together, millions of people who vote Conservative are written off by a few left wing posters on a regular basis.
Since Monica is not a Conservative voter, it gives more power to anything she says.
Hope all will note that it doesn’t work the other way round, there are never hate fuelled comments about Labour voters.
What is ridiculous Whitewave is the political equivalent of
Sectarianism, ( a one sided version) on all the political threads which we know for a fact ( since posters often say so) put many off saying anything at all.

LBC is going from strength to strength.

I started to listen when Eddie Mair moved over from the BBC to do the 4pm-5pm slot and have since discovered Sheila Fogarty, James O'Brien and others. Highly recommended for anyone who likes to hear a variety of viewpoints.

Just like GB news varian ?

Urmstongran Fri 19-Nov-21 18:52:19

Glad you liked MY suggestion grandMattie!

Urmstongran Fri 19-Nov-21 18:51:46

I used to love Eddie Mair on R4 weekdays when I was driving home from work. Never the same after he left.

Andrew Marr was just about the only non-Tory sycophant on the political staff of the Brexit Broadcasting Corporation.

He will be missed.

I think you might have missed this non-tory

I think Marr will be good on LBC. Does anyone listen to Nick Abbot on Saturday nights about 11pm on LBC? We listen when we're in bed and it's hilarious.

Here’s another who won’t be watching if LK takes over.

Thought it was already announced she's off or wants the early Radio 4 slot.

TopsyIrene06 Fri 19-Nov-21 17:36:47

Emma Barnett or Emily Maitlis, both fearless.

As for Marr’s replacement, I don’t like Nick Robinson I just think he’ll get offered the job!

I like that lady on North Korean T V - I don’t understand a word she says but she’s entertaining - should suit the BBC!

Hear hear. Love the idea if the N Korean lady in her pink suit. ?

Alegrias1 Fri 19-Nov-21 17:15:53

That's what we need on the public sector broadcaster.

Somebody who can look threatening in pretty pink frocks and enthusiastically tell us that we're going to hell in a handcart, and that was always the plan.
