Harrowing story and parent/step parent found guilty.

Hopefully the sentence will be appropriate.

I cannot watch the video, too awful. That poor mite.

MissAdventure Sun 12-Dec-21 14:36:43

I'm not sure anything could compete with the same cruelty meted out to Arthur.
The moors murderers, probably, and they got a whole life tariff.

Yes, quite true,*Calistemon*, something which I've thought about on a few occasions, which I think would depend on how the conscience functions should that have been the case, i.e wrongful conviction.

I remember one of the relatives of the case being asked how they'd think/ feel if the person was found innocent and the answer was that " they could live with that ". So some can literally shut-off.

Maddyone. I don’t like the tone of your comment and I don’t need you to tell me the intricacies of the sentencing guidelines. I’m very familiar with them and explained them much further up thread. I also wish you’d stop referring to mob rule and baying for blood. I don’t need to campaign for changes to the law, there’s no need. Anyone can apply to have a sentence extended if they feel it’s unduly lenient and that has nothing to do with baying for blood.

Miss Adventure feel free to acquaint yourself with Victoria Climbie’s ordeals. I can assure you it’s almost beyond belief. Poor child was brought here in order to commit benefit fraud.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 12-Dec-21 15:26:05

I explained many posts back why, given the many different circumstances in which murder and manslaughter are committed, I don’t believe the law needs to be changed. A sentence felt to be inappropriate can be appealed and that is going to happen in this case.

I'm afraid there are many cases equally as bad as Arthur. The press seems to latch onto one in particular and we hear all the details, but any baby/child who is beaten, tortured or starved to death has suffered just as much. And there have been many of them.

MissAdventure Mon 13-Dec-21 15:39:51

Yes, I know that.
My thoughts were on those cases that merit a full life tariff, with no release at all.
Any cases like these are suitable, I'd say, in the absence of the death penalty.

Another pair just found guilty of catastrophic injuries to a 16 month old baby girl. Two women. The bouncer girlfriend punching a baby. More filming, more making fun of the suffering.

I did read about this poor child at the beginning of the trial but then it all went quiet. Being filmed struggling to climb up some steps with a fractured leg! Being made to face the wall as punishment. 16 months old! More referrals by worried relatives.

I am lost for words really. Just unbearably tragic.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 14-Dec-21 11:26:51

Appalling. How many more times will we be told that lessons will be learned?

MissAdventure Tue 14-Dec-21 11:27:53

Filming the results of their abuse.
What in the actual f"@$! is wrong with these abominations of humanity?!!!!

Shinamae Tue 14-Dec-21 11:31:19

I’ve just listened to the news report and I can’t stop crying

MissAdventure Tue 14-Dec-21 11:34:38

Oh well, perhaps they'll have to serve a whole 20 odd year sentence for this. angry
It's cruel to suggest they should be locked up for life, apparently.

tickingbird Tue 14-Dec-21 11:34:43

Miss Adventure. Filming the results of their abuse.
What in the actual f"@$! is wrong with these abominations of humanity?!!!!

My thoughts exactly. It’s beyond chilling to think these monsters appear to be increasing or that we’re just hearing more about them. These poor children.

tickingbird Tue 14-Dec-21 11:37:01

Seriously, I would contribute to the building of another prison to keep them all in for the rest of their rotten lives.

MissAdventure Tue 14-Dec-21 11:40:40

Me too.
I'd work extra to contribute if it kept them away from the rest of society for good.

Shinamae Tue 14-Dec-21 12:00:40

The crown prosecution is now saying that throughout her Short life Star Hobson was subjected to endless physical assaults and psychological harm.. unbelievably horrific

MissAdventure Tue 14-Dec-21 12:11:26

What services were involved in her care?
I use the term "involved", but.....

Shinamae Tue 14-Dec-21 12:19:02

Social services were contacted quite a few times by members of the child’s extended family…

MissAdventure Tue 14-Dec-21 12:23:33

It's just beyond horrific to think about.
That poor little scrap...

Chestnut Tue 14-Dec-21 12:32:30

Star Hobson died in Sep 2020 so it looks like she was another victim of lockdown. I have to admit I was worried and anxious when we started lockdown last year because I knew there would be children confined indoors with angry frustrated parents and they would be at high risk. It was obvious there would be casualties. Lockdown is not an excuse for abusing and murdering a child, but it could have pushed these dreadful people over the edge if they were already harbouring anger and frustration.

lavenderzen Tue 14-Dec-21 12:35:11

It just beggars belief. Poor, poor little girl. What on earth is happening to society.

lavenderzen Tue 14-Dec-21 12:44:12

Five referrals were made about little Star. Just horrific, poor little soul.

SueDonim Tue 14-Dec-21 12:46:34

How do these vile excuses of human beings think they can get away with such abuse, when they go so far as to actually film their own crimes?? Are they terminally stupid or is this a common thing for abusers to do and they’ve been ‘unlucky’ enough to get found out, so they’re merely the tip of a horrific iceberg of cruelty to children? angry

Shinamae Tue 14-Dec-21 12:50:18

And…

I fear your assumption about this being the tip of a very big iceberg is correct ?
