who would you like to replace him - from either side?

Or is he the best of a bad bunch?

Kim19 Sun 12-Dec-21 11:15:08

Kali2, Thanks for that link to Byline. Listening to Dominic Grieve gave me a little glimmer of hope that all may not be dead in the Conservatie party. Appreciate your sharing.

Oh, I thought we could choose from either side.

Yvette Cooper seems to me to be one of those people who despite being comfortable herself has compassion and empathy and seems to understand how tough things are for others. I don't think Boris and his gang have that ability.

Yes, as per title, but not per reality. I wish, I wish - yes Yvette Cooper would be great.

Who was it who went to dinner chez Balls years ago and someone asked one of the children about Dad becoming PM and the child replied that Mummy was going to be Prime Minister, not Dad?

Calistemon Sun 12-Dec-21 11:01:50

Does the PM have to be an elected MP or could he/she be chosen from the House of Lords?

The better ones seem to have been shunted there.

Urmstongran Sun 12-Dec-21 11:01:48

So who do we trust?

Drug companies? The ‘Lancet’ that published Daszaks letter.? Medical academics funded by strange Bill Gates and pharma?

The media also thriving off the pandemic? Gove? Sajid? Starmer and his ship of fools?

Who do we elect - I suppose the one who you think will do us the least harm.

Boris is going nowhere until the 1922 Committee decide to oust him. Then his successor will be chosen. Boris has wasted his 80 seat majority, just tinkering instead of reforming the Civil Service (come back Cummings at least you had the guts) and throwing money at the NHS is plain daft. Most of us don’t agree with it. The NHS is no longer fit for purpose. It is NOT the envy of the world. We kid ourselves.

If I had to choose a Tory candidate to see us through till the next GE? Sadly I genuinely don’t know. What a mess.

Granny23 Sun 12-Dec-21 10:53:59

Nicola Sturgeon. Get shot of the lot of them in one fell swoop with Independence. NB Scotland is underpopulated and welcomes immigrants as 'New Scots'. Like minded, left of centre, eco friendly, pro Europe? - Come and join us.

Coastpath Sun 12-Dec-21 10:38:16

Kali2 yes I wish too! Reality is too real and grim for me this Sunday morning. I'm faking it 'til we make it grin.

If I break my all female criteria I would be very happy to give Keir Starmer a go. He seems a much more sensible, experienced, thoughtful and kind person than the present incumbent.

I long for someone experienced, sensible, kind and incorruptible. Someone who doesn't have a millionaire partner and the lifestyle to match. Someone who knows what it is like to live in a terraced house and wonder where the next penny is coming from. Also, and I know this is sexist so I apologise in advance, I would like a woman...someone who isn't from the Eton/Bullingdon titled and entitled boys club. I think that rules out everyone in the cabinet.

I'm going to say Jess Phillips too. Or Yvette Cooper.

I wonder what Boris will do when he's ousted. GB News?

I don’t think Yvette Cooper is worrying about where the next penny is coming from. She and Ed are well off. Jess Phillips I quite like. Tells it like it is but likeable.

Kali2 Sun 12-Dec-21 10:23:40

Coastpath- tragically, those options are not available. Tories still have a big majority, and there will not be an election for 1- 2 years.

Dominic Grieve would be my choice, Rory Stuart as part of Cabinet ... but they have gone. All the good, solid, honest Conservatives have gone.

Jeremy Hunt another possible candidate.

Hunt wants to completely privatise the NHS

Are you certain about that?

Not sure about the title- it is not about 'liking' or 'not liking' Johnson- it is about him proving to be an absolute disaster, and a real danger for the country and its people.

But who? I have been thinking very hard about it- and it is just a nightmare. Those I would think would be the best to redress the issue of trust, the decent Conservatives, have all gone.

One thing I do know, is that Liz Truss would be a total disaster.

MaizieD Sun 12-Dec-21 10:17:03

Not sure what's wrong with Keir Starmer. Proven competence, respectful of the law, decisive, knows his brief...

Deedaa Sun 12-Dec-21 10:16:09

Currently Attila The Hun sounds attractive but if Boris goes we'll just be stuck with another Tory clone.

Ha, ha Riverwalk I did the same and googled who there was.

How about Lord Grimstone of Boscabel.

Game of Thrones? ?

If we're allowed GoT characters, its got to be Sansa then. Or Tyrion.

Forsythia Sun 12-Dec-21 10:09:08

I voted for Boris, willing to admit it. Now, I don’t think he’s up to it. Too much has come out, too many distractions with Carrie and the little ones, whatever it is he has been a huge disappointment. He has no staying power.
Who could replace him: none of the current cabinet inspire confidence. Liz Truss I don’t think so! To steady the ship……Theresa May or Iain Duncan Smith. Just my opinion.

Shoot me but even Nigel Farage would be better than what we have at the moment ☹️At least he would be decisive even if we didn’t like it! The current lot just fairy around amongst other things and I can’t see Labour being any better.

????????

Really, guns!!!!!

Lucca shows how disillusioned I am with politics.

Well yes but I think I’d leave the country if Farage got in.
