Definitely politics: catching up with Brexit

There is so much happening that is not being reported, I thought that it would do no harm to get those interested up to speed.

1. UK pays £24 for one Moderna dose. EU pays £1

UK pays £15 for one Pfizer dose. EU pays £10.60

AZ in UK is £2.17 per dose.
In EU it’s £2.15

2. ITV news reporting
Analysis shows Brexit caused £12 billion of lost trade in October

@NicholasTyrone
I see the government has very quietly folded in the fishing dispute with the French. This is Brexit in a nutshell: the UK government makes a big noise, puffs out its chest - and then reality kicks in and a complete cave in ensues. It happens over and over again.

UK trade has shrunk since Brexit while EU thrives -

4. The U.K. is paying 25% tariffs on steel we export to USA. The EU - zero
No level playing field there

Well at least Rees-Mogg tries- in the most ridiculous, stupid and nonsensical of ways but ...

Can't see any advantages. Perhaps you could tell me one or two please.

We have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting some more. We have asked, politely, again and again - but nope - never ever have been given a list of those amazing advantages.

I do wonder why?

In short, Brexit is NOT done, it can't be 'done' as we still have no idea what it will be, in the end.
''Brexit is never-ending

What Brexit really means for the UK is a series of interminable disputes on practically all fronts with its largest trading partner, which has an economy nearly six times larger. Whatever the Brexiteers want to claim about being “sovereign equals”, the EU is a supra-national body with much greater power and weight in the world economy and the UK stands to lose far more in any disagreement, both materially and in terms of its global reputation.

Britain, alone, risks becoming an irrelevance on the world stage.

Brexit has compounded the economic impact of the pandemic at home and, as has been made clear by the new German coalition and is an unwelcome distraction for EU leaders from major global challenges, such as the threat of dangerous climate change and escalating tensions with both China and Russia.

The Brexiteers’ fantasies about “global Britain” are finally coming home to roost. Under this administration, Britain will never be global and Brexit will never be done. We are condemned to never-ending acrimonious negotiations with those who should be our closest friends and allies.''

!7 million out of a population of 67 million were fooled into voting Leave on one day in 2016, thanks to the huge amount of pro-brexit activity on social media on the day before - originating in Russia and the Ukraine.

Since then most British people have woken upo to the deception and realised that we should have remained in the EU.

No advantages to our new situation? Absolutely none?

errr....? ...no.

Where's she gone...?

Brexit wasn't voted on?

WWM2 doesn't reply to purile comments. I'll follow her lead.

The UK did NOT vote for brexit- fact!

And it is NOT done - fact!

And it is increasingly clear it was not at all well thought out, and that the promised 'advantages' do NOT exist, but that the disadvantages do, big time. Very simple and clear.

varian Mon 13-Dec-21 18:59:54

There is no advantage to our new position. We are in a very poor and subordinate position compared to our previous position as one of the largest and most influential members of the European Union.

The fraudulent referendum of 2016 has been proved to have been won by lies, cheating and foreign interference.

It would have been declared void had it not been for the fact that it was only advisory.

HolySox Mon 13-Dec-21 18:54:53

"
From Wikipedia " Fascists believe that liberal democracy is obsolete ".

The UK voted for Brexit. That's democracy. The intensity of posters against Brexit ( and those who voted for Brexit) indicates this resul, in their opinion, this was unacceptable. Hence the question.

Brexit is done. It's happened. As a country we need to work out how to take advantage of our new position.

Greta

*MaizieD*: Just wait until full customs checks on incoming goods are introduced next month

I get the impression that many people aren't aware of this. As a neighbour said ”but I thought Brexit had been done...”

Did you ask you neighbour what newspaper she reads?

Kali2 Mon 13-Dec-21 18:07:08

It has been said here so many times too - the last 2 main phases of checks will be 1st of Jan 2022, and then July. Ports and tunnels are NOT ready, neither are businesses and customs, excise, etc.

Funny how particular the French are about having all the right paperwork in forensic order when it suits them, but ignoring it completely when it doesn't.

Meaning? Can you explain?

Kali2 Mon 13-Dec-21 16:20:44

lemongrove

Was agreeing with Jennifer...not Nandalot.tchsmile
The French are not happy at all about fishing rights, so would question the above quote in any case.

I guessed so, but it was very funny ahahaha

Sago Mon 13-Dec-21 14:29:07

JenniferEccles Me too ??

Whitewavemark2 Mon 13-Dec-21 14:28:18

One thing which will give us a break is that agricultural products - food will not be subject to the correct checks until July.

vegansrock Mon 13-Dec-21 13:35:22

I am buying new blinds for the back of my south facing kitchen/ diner. The owner of the small family firm that makes them in the U.K. from a German design told us the prices are going up by 12.5% in January. No prizes for guessing why.

There is a deafening roar of 'la, la, la' on this thread, posters with fingers in their ears......for heaven's sake people, even the Brexiteer's Bible, The Daily Express is beginning to notice that not all is well in the post Brexit world.

Just wait until full customs checks on incoming goods are introduced next month grin

Yes indeed, but undoubtedly the press will spin it as more intransigence from the EU and many will believe them, including some on GN. There again, maybe Johnson will take this looming Brexit bonus as a good opportunity to lockdown again.

And in Dublin the Lorry drivers are blocking the ports due fuel costs in the EU.

You might not have noticed, but fuel costs have increased here in the UK, too...

EllanVannin Mon 13-Dec-21 11:58:19

I wouldn't dare tell them " I told you so " grin

The threat to invoke Article 16 has been dropped I see.

They are quietly reversing so much, like the fishing threat.
