The Tory MP for Shrewsbury could not afford to pay school fees and has been"grubbing around" (my words) for a job or a consultancy in the Middle East. A link to the full details follows

My heart is bleeding.

I thought the OP would be talking about this latest photo to hit social media.

They even had the nerve to employ outside caterers!

I can't spell yet, either. I'm surprised that there aren't more typos given that my keyboard has lost most of its letters.

There is already a post about this, and if you are going to raise accusations of sleaze will you at least spell it correctly.

Perhaps you could point me in the direction of the other post. I looked in N & P and didn't see one. Given the ongoing discussion it could only be in this forum.

Inbred Tory Voters! , rather offensive to a large part of the population varian.

varian Wed 15-Dec-21 19:33:04

I do not for a minute suggest that all Tory voter's are inbred.

But in certain constituencies like North Shropshire which have always registered huge Tory majorities there are quite a lot of families who, generation after generation, vote Tory automatically because they are from a Tory family and woukd never even consider voting any other way.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 15-Dec-21 19:38:25

In fairness Varian the same logic can be applied to Labour voters or even Liberal Democrats…

Snouts in trough - Tory MP needs help with paying school fees.
It only really jumped out at me because of the school fees comment.

Josianne Wed 15-Dec-21 19:46:49

Actually it is interesting how when the discussion is placed under Chat it only gets two comments, yet in New & Politics it gets so far 32 posts.

Do you know that for a fact varian?

It is rather a controversial thing to claim.

These rather nasty innuendos were often used as jokes about the Irish, the Newfoundlanders, the Tasmanians, people from the Forest of Dean etc.
Now people from North Shropshire.

Jeremy Corbyn lived in rural Shropshire, I know that because his mother taught at my school.

Discriminatory and quite nasty.

Tribalism - often applied to Labour voters, apparently.

Discriminatory again.

Did anyone notice in tonights press conference Johnson suggesting that the Downing Street party was ok because the Tory staffers worked so hard?

Johnson is utterly clueless.

ayse Wed 15-Dec-21 19:50:22

FWIW, my maternal grandfather always voted Tory. He loathed the nationalised railways. I always remember the huge argument he had with my father when it was pointed out that the private railway system was continually being bailed out by the tax payer. It hasn’t changed at all!

I’ve got to the point where I can’t listen to him anymore. I just read the news instead. Wished he actually lived on another planet!

GrannyGravy13 Wed 15-Dec-21 20:23:42

Calistemon I try to avoid tribalism whether referring to politics, TV soaps or even religion.

I found varians inbred Tory post offensive, the same if they had posted inbred Labour .

Name calling is never appropriate or necessary.

ayse: 'Wished he actually lived on another planet' - I think he already does!

I know quite a few parents who have taken extra jobs so their children can go to private school. Shame on them! They aren’t all Tories either.

Curlywhirly Wed 15-Dec-21 22:37:25

The 'Ledbydonkeys' video is brilliant - doubt Cressida Dick will watch it or do anything about it though. Shameful.

I know you don't do name-calling, GrannyGravy or lump together voters in stereotypes.

inbred is an extremely offensive term to use about voters or indeed, anyone.

Perhaps varian would like to apologise to the people of North Shropshire.

MayBeMaw Wed 15-Dec-21 23:04:58

I love the fact this thread starts “Yey(yay) !”
I know it’s a typo, but it seems incredibly appropriate! grin

Not exactly sleaze but the govt is planning to sell off the Vaccination Manufacturing and Innovation Centre. This was set up in 2018, with public money in order to develop vaccines and make the UK more resilient against pandemics.

There is a petition against this at We Own It.

Yes they sneaked that in under all the noise about Johnson’s behaviour.

Their choice. They still pay taxes on top of fees.

Interesting - we will see what happens

“A week since shocking stories first emerged of illegal gatherings in and around No 10 and still the Met Police won’t investigate. Would they be as shy had you or I had broken the law? Look at the form they publish for gathering evidence on breaches of Coronavirus rules by normal people and you rather doubt it.

So why the difference?

We decided to cut through the nonsense and commission two of the country’s leading lawyers - top policing barrister Danny Friedman QC and leading authority on Covid regulations Adam Wagner - to advise on whether the Met Police refusal to investigate is unlawful. We are today publishing that advice in full.

Their view is that a policy of not investigating retrospective breaches is likely to be unlawful; a failure to publish the policy is likely to be unlawful; and a decision not to investigate based on an absence of evidence is also arguably unlawful.

We remain astonished at what looks, to us, like the Met’s willingness to tolerate conduct that undermines public health and erodes trust in the rule of law. In 1733 Dr Thomas Fuller wrote “Be you ever so high, the law is above you.” Those are fine words - and we think the Met should pay heed.

A week ago today we wrote to the Met telling them we intended to sue if they continued to refuse to uphold the law. They have two weeks to change their minds.”

Good Law Project

Whitewavemark2 Fri 17-Dec-21 16:26:44

This is the civil servant who was employed and reports to Johnson, how on earth can his investigation possibly be trusted?

“EXCL: Simon Case and team had a Christmas party on Dec 17 2020 at 5.30 pm in room 103 of the Cabinet Office. The digital calendar invites sent in advance called it "Christmas party!"

Raises serious questions about his investigation into No 10 parties”

Whitewavemark2 Fri 17-Dec-21 17:14:36

So Simon Case will be investigating Simon Case?

MissAdventure Fri 17-Dec-21 17:43:47

An open and shut Case?
