The Tory MP for Shrewsbury could not afford to pay school fees and has been"grubbing around" (my words) for a job or a consultancy in the Middle East. A link to the full details follows

My heart is bleeding.

What a farce - this just shows what a shambles this Government are. I await the next instalment.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 17-Dec-21 18:15:45

This

“While in the US Sunak met with US healthcare bosses. Why? This should send a chill down the spine of every NHS supporter. We don't need the involvement of a system based on profit whose own health service regularly comes bottom in comparison charts of leading nations”

Why? I thought they valued and supported the NHS?

They wouldn’t be lying would they?

Listening to a radio phone in today I heard a former Tory voter express surprise that people were so concerned about last year's Downing Street Christmas parties and who paid for the expensive wallpaper.

He made the point that what we all should be far more outraged about is the multi-billion £s covid contracts dished out to Tory "friends" many of whom had zero relevant experience, without any normal competitive tendering.

I think he has put his finger on the much more serious charge of corruption, which should bring down this appalling government.

Dinahmo Fri 17-Dec-21 19:43:54

Varian The subject of the contracts has been raised many times on GN but not everyone seems to take note.

eazybee - there is a good reason why spelling is not criticised on Gransnet - it is because some people have dyslexia or other problems and find spelling hard. That does not make them unintelligent or mean that their views should not be treated with respect.

Shut actually …

MissAdventure Sat 18-Dec-21 08:14:37

He has resigned, hasn't he?
Case closed!

MissAdventure Sat 18-Dec-21 08:17:40

I think there are going to be more resignations soon.
It seems there were get togethers every few days...

Whitewavemark2 Sat 18-Dec-21 08:20:22

It all happens so quickly it is difficult to keep up.

Calistemon Sat 18-Dec-21 11:01:12

MissAdventure

He has resigned, hasn't he?
Case closed!

He's not quit his job, just stepped down from the enquiry.

MissAdventure Sat 18-Dec-21 11:02:51

Yes, I can't remember the word used for doing that.
I hadn't heard it before.
Rescended or something.

Calistemon Sat 18-Dec-21 11:13:31

Simon Says Rescind

MissAdventure Sat 18-Dec-21 11:16:30

Nope.
That wasn't the word.
I know that one.
This was a new one on me....

Ailidh Sat 18-Dec-21 11:18:25

Recused.

MissAdventure Sat 18-Dec-21 11:20:18

That's it! Thank you.

MaizieD Sat 18-Dec-21 11:24:23

This is the person who is now leading the enquiry/investigation. A lady with a great track record for covering things up, apparently

Now, I read that she is a real no nonsense, "take no prisoners" type.

Calistemon Sat 18-Dec-21 11:41:57

Ailidh

Recused.

I should have known that (but I didn't!)

jaylucy Sat 18-Dec-21 11:46:37

Yes but "sleeze" sounds so much better- in fact I'd add more "ees"!!!

Dinahmo Sat 18-Dec-21 12:14:35

Another resignation. Martin Thomas, the govt's preferred candidate has resigned as Chair of the Charity Commission. Apparently his credentials were reasonable but, on further investigation it was found that there have been a series of allegations against him and he was the subject of a serious incidence report made to the CC. Also he is a friend of Johnson.

The scandals just keep on coming!

Whitewavemark2 Sat 18-Dec-21 13:23:22

Nothing ever gets through does it?

silverlining48 Sat 18-Dec-21 16:43:22

Why can’t I get that picture of pigs and troughs out of my mind.

MaizieD Sat 18-Dec-21 22:45:42

Ooooooh dear.. There's more to that mock press conference...

Officials at 10 Downing Street are said to be in a 'state of panic' over further recordings of Boris Johnson's former spokeswoman Allegra Stratton that include her responses to questions about the Prime Minister's personal life.

Calistemon Sat 18-Dec-21 22:47:19

I bet he wished he'd never offered her the job ....
