It has emerged that the entire committee membership voted against Johnson during the covid vote.

I am surprised tbh that it has come now, but looking back over the time since Johnson took office, it has been a debacle almost from start to finish, so perhaps one shouldn’t be surprised.

However, I doubt whether this will come to anything, although there are a few fancying their chances.

Members can e-mail in and follow their e-mail with a phone call to Graham Brady. Over the Christmas period, so the idea that Johnson might hope that the break would put some of his problems to bed have been dashed.

Unfortunately we are in the middle of a pandemic. Is this really the time to get rid of a PM and have an internal Tory MP election taking weeks? I don’t know know why some people are suddenly discovering Bojo is an inept useless idiot, it’s been obvious for many years.

I think those that are just discovering Johnson is a badly flawed personality are the ones who voted for him, the rest of us have known for years.

If the leader we have in the middle of a pandemic is not able to fulfil the role effectively, I think we should be replacing him PDQ.

Why do schools need to be shut? Why not test all pupils every day on entry , sendhome infected ones, everyone els carries on, those sent home learn remotely by zoom. Same for teachers daily test either on arrival to avoid accidental misrepresentation of neg test(ahem) everyone else carry on!. We had 2 girls in our 'baby class' at school who sadly contracted polio.were we all sent home? Nope. We all had had our sugar lumps so carried on. Result? Nobody else caught the lethal virus. And the 2 girls? They're fine onehad bit of a limp , other one had what she called a floppy foot! And they are both still fine! Why does everyone have a huge panic nowadays, what happened to managing a situation?

Lucca Fri 17-Dec-21 17:13:39

So easy to every child every day of course ?
And then “send some home” ? How ?
Plus then zoom class whilst teaching normal class ?

I can't believe I just read that.

There are days when the whole of GN just seems to be a re-run of Monty Python sketches.

Just a flesh wound...

It’s all a terrible mess and our lives are at risk. My worry is if Johnson goes who will take his place, will it be someone who wants no restrictions. I just wish we could have a GE and get rid of this lot.

I totally agree with you but we are stuck with them for a good while yet

MaizieD Fri 17-Dec-21 17:49:53

So where would that leave us with all the illiberal and repressive legislation that is currently going through parliament?

By the time the next GE would be held we'll have voter suppression and no meaningful protests legislation in place... Not to mention Parliament being completely sidelined and meaningless..

Though a successor to Johnson might be even worse in this respect.

What we really need is a GE now, before the tories, any tories, can do any more harm to the UK...

Whitewavemark2 Fri 17-Dec-21 17:53:26

maizie yes you are absolutely right.

( I claim the right to change my mind?)

I am disgusted by this lily-livered bunch of MPs. We are in crisis. We need to be strong and pull together. Whatever the rights or wrongs of Boris's behavour, now is not the time to be side-tracked . They continue to be paid while they have the luxury of trying to further their own ambitions. They don't give a damn about the rest of us. I am ashamed of them.

Visgir1 Fri 17-Dec-21 20:33:58

I can understand your thoughts but I reckon...
Defo don't think there will not be a GE, its a case of "Turkeys don't vote for Christmas"

It's too mid term and as per the comment from Tony Blaire's recent book. The majority of the public are not interested in politics. If it was like countries where everyone has to vote a different story in a few years.

BoJo will get one more chance then he's out!
The GE will go ahead as planned.

Katie59 Fri 17-Dec-21 20:52:27

His days are numbered although I expect him to stand aside rather than contest vote of no confidence, either way I really don’t see BJ heading the GE, no idea who, maybe an unknown

Kali2 Fri 17-Dec-21 20:59:13

He was asked about it in an interview today, and was NOT happy- very rattled.

Urmstongran Fri 17-Dec-21 21:03:00

I don’t care who paid for Boris’ wallpaper and I can’t bring myself to a boiling rage over cheese and wine gatherings. Sorry.

I am angry about open borders, ‘continuity Blairism’, addiction to money printing, higher taxes, Omicron histrionics, 3xjabs per annum or access denied. The doomsday cult of eco lunacy. The superfluous “supreme” court. The rotten civil service.

If Boris and his party think his crashing popularity is down to covid fatigue I’m afraid the problems run much deeper

Iam64 Fri 17-Dec-21 21:16:34

Mummer was your post ironic? It reminded me of the three Yorkshire men python sketch
Even more , French and Saunders in WW2 - bombs falling all around them, nothing to eat, still looking for dad whose buried somewhere under the rubble caused by houses demolished by bombs But, are we down ‘earted- nah
That’s what we need, a bit of cockney fighting spirit

Ah well! You've got GB News and whatever Farage's latest political party is called Urmstongran. I'm sure you'll be welcome.

Of course you don’t. Who cares about corruption as long as Brexit got done

What’s wrong with 3 jabs a year to keep us safe ? Be thankful you’re not in a country which has not enough vaccine.

Keffie12 Sun 19-Dec-21 13:42:52

He isn't going anywhere. Who is going to want to take over at this time? No one.

Frost has now jumped ship too. Nothing to do with the rubbish he spouted about why he was leaving. All to do with Brexshit as he realises he can't get done what the hardliners want. He doesn't want to take the flak.

They are all making plenty of noise. I doubt it is going to happen. Besides look at the choices. Only Sunak who is any possibility.

The rest are a liability in one way or another. The Tories only had one mantra to get them in power, with the ''get Brexshit done'' which it never will be.

Just look at the main names that come to main Gove (no charisma or personality even though he is clever) Rees Mogg (out of the 18 century and gaffe prone) Patel (evil) Raab (too stupid) Javid (only redeeming feature was he quit as treasurer)

There never has been such a lack lustre, corrupt, one dimensional, boring, inane government in history

MaizieD Sun 19-Dec-21 14:04:00

I wouldn't even consider Sunak as being acceptable. He'd have the country in damaging and pointless austerity and support the deregulation that the ERG Brexiters so desperately want.

And sell off the NHS.
