Apparently he disillusioned.

Oh well.

Urmstongran Sun 19-Dec-21 20:20:15

Not surprised really dragonfly they are happy to pay more tax. We try our best on a shoestring budget.

Casdon Sun 19-Dec-21 20:19:04

Urmstongran there’s nothing wrong with the NHS that adequate funding and removal from malign political interference wouldn’t resolve. The deterioration in the last 10 years is down to the Government.

Actually the UK was far behind The Netherlands on workers rights. Not sure how the other EU countries compare as I haven’t lived there but Holland was way ahead.
Also their education system and health care was streets ahead of ours and remains so.

Urmstongran Sun 19-Dec-21 20:08:37

is deregulation, removal of workers rights and protections, privatisation of the NHS etc what you had in mind when you voted leave?

Yes *MaizieD^ some deregulation for sure. Too much red tape. And remember the UK was actually ahead of the EU on worker’s rights - minimum wage etc - and on animal welfare.

The NHS needs a complete overhaul - it’s not that brilliant. As most of us already realise. Months ago I posited reorganisation ought to be a cross party issue so it doesn’t keep getting kicked around like the proverbial football into the long grass.

Thank you for your interest Parsley3. This is more how discourse should be in my opinion!

You are right. I’m gutted.
As to who will take over I’ve no idea. ?
I hope for someone strong and informed. Obviously the Remainers on here would hope for a weak sap as to’bring us ever closer’ to the EU.

Time will tell I suppose Parsley3.
Do you have a view yourself?

You're gutted? Get over it!

Whitewavemark2 Sun 19-Dec-21 20:06:12

Interesting to know that Johnson sees this as only a part time job though. Seems he is losing interest.

Oh c’mon varian he got short shrift and he knew it and was embarrassed.

That's a downright lie. Sadly, I'm not sure you do know it.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 19-Dec-21 20:04:17

Liz Truss eh!

Clearly will represent a big challenge to the EU. Look how successful she has been rustling up trade.

Dear oh dear

Urmstongran Sun 19-Dec-21 20:02:53

Is Boris setting up Liz Truss to fail?

love0c Sun 19-Dec-21 19:56:30

Dragonfly Interesting. I'm guessing you must know my children!

^...in fact I think he was pitied^

Spot on Parsley3.
Yet I bet the EU would give it’s collective right arm to have offered something more substantial on the day. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I don't think that you even know what the EU offered, Ug.

You haven't answered my question.

Bearing in mind the objective of the ERG group (which is the tail that has wagged the government dog ever since the referendum) , as I pointed out in my much earlier post, is deregulation, removal of workers rights and protections, privatisation of the NHS etc what you had in mind when you voted leave? Do you think it would be a good thing for UK and its citizens?

Urmstongran Sun 19-Dec-21 19:30:23

Welshwife Sun 19-Dec-21 19:28:05

The EU agreed to everything Cameron asked for but like much pro EU facts was not widely or often reported.

Parsley3 Sun 19-Dec-21 19:25:10

Cameron fought hard for what he got from the EU in the full knowledge that it would never be good enough for the dissenters in his party. I don’t hold this view that the EU had it in for him, in fact I think he was pitied.
So Liz Truss is to be lead negotiator on the NI protocol. That will be interesting.

dragonfly46 Sun 19-Dec-21 19:19:42

As an aside Liz Truss went to my school!

AgreeMayBee -all that Tory politicians care about at the end of the day is the survival of the Tory Party. They do not ever care about what might be best for our country.

Urmstongran Sun 19-Dec-21 19:13:30

Yes good point MayBee. But his insecurity force his hand.

MayBee70 Sun 19-Dec-21 19:10:55

It was never about brexit but about Cameron being scared of UKIP.

Urmstongran Sun 19-Dec-21 19:03:24

varian Sun 19-Dec-21 19:00:47

Cameron got a good deal from the EU which we should have grabbed with both hands.

Lucca Sun 19-Dec-21 19:00:12

I do have a view Ug. My view is that we should never have been asked to vote on EU membership to satisfy the disgruntled in the Tory government. We should have stayed in and worked to reform it as a member. Brexit has been a mistake that has divided the country. Attempts to agree a satisfactory deal have proved impossible and I can’t see how that can change. I fear for the UK especially that now even the most optimistic of Johnson supporters are giving their heads a wobble. I was always prepared to be pleasantly mistaken about him but when even his trusty acolytes, like Frost, are packing it in, I see no hope of that.

Good post

Urmstongran Sun 19-Dec-21 18:58:40

Interesting opinion Parsley3 and a perfectly valid viewpoint.
But think back.

Cameron didn’t ask for much (buttons really) yet the EU denied him.

It grew from there.

varian Sun 19-Dec-21 18:58:21

It is entirely understandable to support these policies if you happen to be a selfish amoral tax dodging billionaire .

But why would any ordinary decent taxpayer want to support them?

GillT57 Sun 19-Dec-21 18:45:09

varian

The stupidest thing I've ever heard said in the last five and a half years is the leave voters slogan - "WE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT WE WERE VOTING FOR"

I am able to forgive someone who was deceived and misled by the (obvious) half truths and misinformation peddled by the Leave campaign and the majority of the press; in fact many people have admitted they would now vote differently given the same choice. But I can never forgive or even understand why anyone would willingly vote for the ERG group plans to reduce employment rights, benefits including disability, health and safety regulations and to criminalise people seeking asylum. Why would anyone think this is all a great idea is beyond my ken.
