Anniebach you haven't explained your post about holiday homes and homeless people. I really didn't understand what point you were making.

I am no one's subject!!

No one castigated the queen. People commented on what she was wearing as we do with many who are in the public eye.

Allegrias we may not agree on the first part of your post of 13 27 but the rest I agree is spit on. There is a great PR machine at work.

So will Camilla be Queen? I can't follow the rules grin

Allsorts Sun 26-Dec-21 15:21:18

I found her speech extremely touching, the mention of one beloved family member being absent , meaning Prince Philip, said a lot I think. Thank goodness other family members are there for her. For someone 95, after what she’s gone though the last two years, you have to admire her strength of character and the duty she feels to our country. It will be a sad day for us when we don’t have her anymore, hopefully that wont be for some time yet.

Anniebach

FarNorth she hasn’t been an elderly lady for decades

She’s been making speeches for decades and actually I’d say she’s been elderly for two decades. ….

FarNorth Sun 26-Dec-21 15:07:59

A queen's husband isn't king, tho, because of sexist attitudes.

FarNorth Sun 26-Dec-21 15:06:35

Surely the wife of a king is normally the queen, in the UK.
Eg Queen Mary

Anniebach Sun 26-Dec-21 15:04:45

Anne is about 16th in line

Galaxy Sun 26-Dec-21 15:02:11

In the same way Prince Philip wasnt king.

Anniebach Sun 26-Dec-21 15:01:53

Because she is not heir to the throne

FarNorth Sun 26-Dec-21 14:59:55

Kate will not, cannot be Queen

Why not?

Gwyneth Sun 26-Dec-21 14:59:15

I thought it was a wonderful Christmas Day speech and I enjoyed listening to it.

Anniebach Sun 26-Dec-21 14:53:25

Kate will not, cannot be Queen

Zara, Beatrice and Eugenie are not working royals , only one grandchild is a working royal

Alegrias1 Sun 26-Dec-21 14:32:28

No pictures of Zara either. Or Beatrice. Or Eugenie.

The only ones pictured from the grandchildren's generation were William and Kate, who are being promoted as king and queen in waiting.

Clutching at straws there I think 25 Avalon.

25Avalon Sun 26-Dec-21 14:20:22

Not mention of H&M apart from referring to extra ggc that had arrived this year. Lots of pictures of everyone except them too. Not much else to say really. I expect they have all conversed online and hopefully peace and joy to all.

Alegrias1 Sun 26-Dec-21 14:19:12

confused

Has she discovered the fountain of youth?

Anniebach Sun 26-Dec-21 14:18:01

FarNorth she hasn’t been an elderly lady for decades

Alegrias1 Sun 26-Dec-21 14:16:51

Castigated? Really? Who has castigated her? Please tell me because I can't see it.

Castigate: reprimand · rebuke · admonish · chastise · chide · upbraid · reprove · reproach · scold · remonstrate with · berate · take to task · pull up · lambast

Maybe you mean the people telling her to get a new bra. hmm

Mollygo Sun 26-Dec-21 14:13:22

Forsythia I love your post-sums it up nicely.
The Queen was doing what lots of us do; she made an effort to look nice when out in public, is proud of her children, misses family members she has lost.
I’m glad I’m not in her shoes, castigated for whatever I do.

FarNorth Sun 26-Dec-21 13:32:12

I thought she spoke very well for an elderly lady

What?
Don't you mean for someone who has been used to doing this for decades?

Alegrias1 Sun 26-Dec-21 13:27:13

We live in a country where we are allowed to criticise and comment on anybody and anything. She's not being castigated for doing a broadcast that she has done every year since Noah was a lad. She's not being castigated for anything.

I find the discussion about her dress and her undergarments astonishing. Me, I'd rather be commenting on the PR campaign that is underway to pave the way for Charles and then William to be portrayed as the heirs to the successful reign that has been Queen Elizabeth's, and their depiction as the paragons of leadership that will take us further on into 21st Century Global Britain. People are falling for it. Its PR, and maybe most people are happy to accept it but I'm not. And there's many on here that are not.

The RF are able to use the media to tell us how great they are, and hence perpetuate their own place at the top of the heap. The populace are being manipulated. William and his lovely children. Kate and her piano. Our poor Queen, who is just like us in so many ways. They may all be very lovely people. That doesn't mean that we can't ever make valid criticisms of them and their hold on society.

Forsythia Sun 26-Dec-21 12:13:34

I thought she spoke very well for an elderly lady and she looked nice and festive in her red dress. I see no need to pick apart her dress, underwear or anything else. When my mum was her age she looked very similar in what she wore. Body shapes change as you age. She is proud of her son and his son and their wives. Nothing wrong in that. They have supported her through these unprecedented times. If she hadn’t done a broadcast she’d have been castigated and as she has done one she is still castigated. She cannot win.

DiscoDancer1975 Sun 26-Dec-21 11:54:36

I’m not a Royalist...but do respect the Queen for her ‘staying power’. She could have stepped down at the outset, but she didn’t.

None of us have a choice of the family we’re born into. We do have a choice as to whether we stay. Hence...so many estrangements, us included.

Alegrias1 Sun 26-Dec-21 11:50:21

I'm nobody's subject.

Not now, not ever.

AcornFairy Sun 26-Dec-21 11:47:37

When I saw the title “The Queen’s Speech” I didn’t expect to read so much unpleasantness from some of her subjects. What’s going on here? How sad that social media has opened up so much opportunity for us to be unsociable, unkind and unidentified.

nadateturbe Sun 26-Dec-21 11:09:34

No not stupid. We know the RF aren't stupid. I take that back. But there is no way they can justify it.
