The Queen’s speech

Yes some posts are maybe aggressive. I'm not a monarchist so personally I don't see anything wrong with them, if they are someone's opinion.

How would you describe the posts saying she needs better undergarments or she shouldn't have been allowed to appear that way? Personal? Insulting? Disrespectful? Over-entitled?

For me, its all of those. The fact that people think its OK to comment on her appearance explains to me what people think of her; that she is a blank canvas that belongs to us and not a real person at all. If you were a respected Head of State on TV would you like a bunch of old women talking about your bra?

I was merely trying to point out that some of the posts come from an aggressive place Allegrias. Not all can be lumped in the same way.

Yes Anniebach The Queen does not usually speak personally as she did today about how she misses her husband. It was very touching.

I understand that certain posters are very anti-royal so have an axe to grind and it's apparently expected by gransnetters who have been here muchonger than I.
However, let's not get carried away by what are mere observations about dress( one which I noticed myself) and those comments from posters which are coming from a completely different place.

So I reiterate; people who think its unacceptable to criticise the fiscal organisation of Royal family, but think its OK to comment on her appearance, have got their priorities very mixed up indeed.

The woman has lived all these years with dignity and is renowned for the fact that she commands respect from many people. Commenting on her underwear is scandalous.

I really don’t understand why women, some who have been widowed , are concerned with her bra.

The Queen has never talked of her private emotions, today she
spoke of her husband of 70 years, she spoke of him when she first met him and when he died, she misses him .

I certainly didn't comment on how the Queen was dressed or her underclothes,I was actually more interested in what she had to say. However as I remember the death of her father quite well and certainly her coronation , what a long day that was for a 10 year old, I have over the years felt both affection and latterly concern for a now elderly lady that has been part of the fabric of this country for so many years. She's a fantastic woman, but of course that is just my opinion.

In all seriousness, this is another problem with monarchy. People think they have the right to comment on the way a complete stranger looks when they get old, while they pretend they are respectful of her.

Calling people parasites is horrible and totally unnecessary. Surely somebody can articulate their views clearly without having to resort to offensive language. Nobody can help the family they're born into, and yes We are all entitled to our views, (even those of us who support the monarchy!) but why be offensive when airing those views?

Well I've watched again. Yes the first part was very sad of course when she talked about her husband as you would expect. Her bereavement was very recent.

The difference Annie posters are picking on just one person who is anti monarchy and her views are well known.

She is amazing for her age. I agree she has definitely lost weight and could do with more supportive undergarments. Having said that how many people of her age even wear bras? I know my mum and mil stopped doing so in their 80s. It was a good sincere speech I felt.

Not so long ago there were reams of comments about Lizzie sitting on a gold throne wearing millions+ pounds of jewels on her head and preaching to the country that "her government" wanted us all to tighten our belts at the same time her greedy wee paw was outstreched to refill her coffers .Lets get this right I DONT HATE LIZZIE ...just every thing she stands for .A decent human wouldn't watch people go hungry or live on the streets while using tax havens to protect"her people ".
Everyone in real life who I know understand that I am anti monarchy ...always was .always will be .I really cant understand why so many on here are so invested in people thay dont know and who couldn't care less about them ,Me? I care about folk who dont have power or wealth and NEED a helping hand .

So it's disrespectful to say the RF live off the taxpayer but ok to say an old lady needs a new bra and needs to pull her dress down?

I think we need a recalibration here of what is appropriate. She's not your mum, show some respect.

Just read through all the post and the negative (to put it nicely) comments to Paddyanne, totally unnecessary and I get fed up with the policing of comments by other GN. So you didn’t like her comments but disrespectful. No.

Thank heavens! For one minute I thought one poster had missed her chance.
It made me laugh. I wouldn’t want to give a speech when I’d lost someone. I couldn’t hold it together when I had to speak at my dad’s funeral.

Maybe I'll go listen again....

I found the speech very moving.

I noticed the Queen's slimmer face, and thought it suited her.

I also noticed that a better fitting bra would have been good.

I noticed not because I am anti-monarchist or anti the Queen personally but because the older I get, the more I am aware of things hanging low on me that definitely look better canted up a trifle higher.

I missed the first 10 minutes so must watch the speech again as people have said it was so good.

As nadateturbe says, her dress was ill-fitting and I wonder why no one pointed that out/pulled it down/pinned it or whatever.
