I do hope you don't need the emergency services over the Christmas/New Year, Maudi , or the weeks following when they could be busy with Omicron cases. It may be on average less severe than some other variants, but it is much more infectious. With the larger number of cases, there are bound to be patients who get the worst end of it and end up in hospital, fighting for breath and taking all the attention of the medical staff.

“We know that the much higher transmissibility of Omicron means large gatherings have the potential to become very rapid super-spreader events, putting large numbers at risk of getting infected very quickly,” the FM told MSPs.

“Limiting these events helps reduce the risk of widespread transmission. It also cuts down the transmission risks associated with travel to and from such events.

"And second, these large events put an additional burden on emergency services, especially the police and ambulance services.

"At a time when these services are already under severe pressure and also dealing with high staff absences, limiting large scale events will help them focus on delivering essential services to the public."

The Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) said it was “deeply concerned” about emergency care in Scotland, warning that staff absences due to Covid may prevent the health service from delivering effective care.

Of course there wasn't going to be an official party, seems some have had a humour bypass on here today ? or are we not allowed to smile or have a little giggle about the sainted Sturgeon.

Seems to me Sturgeon and Drakeford in their haste to beat Boris with lockdown measures (they always have to get in first) will have eggnog on their faces and face a backlash especially Sturgeon for cancelling the most celebrated event in Scotland Hogmanay. We'll its given me a giggle today but I do live in England ?

Stupid man for posting NS address on line. Took a funny joke too far. Her sister Gillian noticed it and alerted Police Scotland. It would have gotten a laugh - because it WAS funny to pretend she was having a Hogmanay party round at hers - but what the man did was dangerous in this febrile climate. There are genuinely a great many very annoyed Scots at these imposed restrictions over the festive season - they certainly didn’t all vote for NS!

Linslass It was Maudi who mentioned the FM "playing politics" I replied to both your posts in one, but failed to name her. Sorry.

Edinburgh's Hogmanay public celebrations are cancelled - not surprising, as it is just one seething mass of humanity filling Princes Street and the gardens, most of them full of alcohol and hugging and kissing everyone within reach. Just what we don't need in the middle of a very infectious CiVid variant of the pandemic (Covid cases in Scotland have increased by 50 per cent in the past week, and 62.9 per cent of cases are Omicron)

There was never going to be a party. The idiot appears to have posted this online to incite a disturbance outside Nicola Sturgeon’s house. He has published her private address online not the official Bute House in Edinburgh. I hope he is suitably punished.

Why what has he done.? Why no arrests for the planned Downing St party. Or is the law on this different in Scotland?

Whatever your opinion of her politics, Nicola Sturgeon is not stupid enough to really hold a big open party while restricting the socialising of others. I would imagine he has been arrested for fraud for advertising a non-existent party at someone else's house. As the venue was that of the FM, it would have caused an "incident"

Have not said anything whatsoever about her politics. I see now he posted her address, possibly an arrestable offence seeing who she is. Politics did not come into it. Happy Christmas to you.

It's also a common form of intimidation used by deeply inadequate people on social media.

Why can't we remain open like in England? Hospitality backlash in Wales and Scotland as Nicola Sturgeon and Mark Drakeford are accused of 'pressing the panic button' with tough new Covid curbs (Daily Mail)

I think they have called it wrong this time playing petty politics.

I find the using of womens home address to make a political point really disturbing, it's happening more freqiently and seems to be aimed mostly at women. Excuse my French but that man is a wanker.
