Uncontrolled crowds swarming over the countryside in search of trouble are hordes.
A hoard is a hidden collection of supplies or treasure, amassed and secreted away to be available in times of hardship, when food or valuables are in short supply. It doesn't go marauding. It is more in danger from the marauding hordes who will find it and carry it off.
I am sorry if I upset anyone by correcting this Malapropism. I have ignored it up until now, but it alters the whole meaning of so many posts that I can't neglect it any longer. It is not a typo or a spelling mistake, it is a completely different word, with its own different meaning.
