Maxwell has been found guilty on five out of six counts of recruiting underage girls to be sexually abused by Jeffrey Epstein.

Maxwell also faces two perjury charges, which defence lawyers successfully argued should be tried separately.

I wondered if she might get off the charges, as money and power are behind her, but justice has prevailed.

Has she indeed? I thought the jury might not agree a verdict -they seemed to be split at one point. I wonder where this leaves Prince Andrew!

Justice has prevailed ….. watching the post verdict discussion on Court TV

Considering the number of charges and vast amounts of documentary evidence, the jury haven't taken very long to reach their verdict have they? I wonder what impact this verdict will have on PA?

MayBeMaw Wed 29-Dec-21 22:31:21

Well, well, well.
I certainly had little sympathy for her and if it is all true (as we can presumably now believe after the verdict) what twisted perverts they both were.

This statement was lodged by Prince Andrew’s Counsel on 24th December:

The Duke of York has made an “unprecedented” request for all witness testimony taken in his sexual abuse case to be kept secret, it has emerged.

He wants “depositions, including his own, to remain under seal, even if neither party declares the evidence confidential.“

I hope I will soon hear no more about it as the pronunciation of her name has jarred with me. I had a French colleague for many years called Ghislaine and she pronounced it “zhees-Len” so the “Gelaine” of the news reports has just sounded wrong to me!

Calistemon Wed 29-Dec-21 22:48:09

I always pronounced it Zhees-len, MayBeMaw so assumed I'd been wrong all these years.
Her mother was French I believe.

It will be interesting if Andrew D of Y's request is granted but I don't know why it should be.

Summerlove Wed 29-Dec-21 22:48:27

Thank freaking goodness

JenniferEccles Wed 29-Dec-21 23:03:52

However her name is correctly pronounced, I am pleased she was found guilty.
So, Prince Andrew is still trying to cover his back.

Well I imagine my French colleague knew how to pronounce her own name so I can only assume Maxwell's is an Anglicised version

The name Ghislaine has two different pronunciations. The first pronunciation, which is more common in most of France and in Belgium is Ghee-lehn. The second pronunciation, which is more common in the south of France and in Canada is Jeez-lehn

Hurray - we’re all right!

Bet there are quite a few agitated grey haired blokes out there tonight.

The way some pronounce it sounds more like French the perfume.
It is Zheeslen.

Anyway, I'm pleased with the verdict.

Good Verdict

Wonder if Andrew is sweating now.

Wonder if Andrew is sweating now.

I wondered about that too but, according to GM's attorney, her conviction weakens any case against him.

Urmstongran Wed 29-Dec-21 23:56:20

She must know a great many secrets. Names. She chose not to take the stand. After Epstein, she’s likely terrified. Well, I would be.

Mind you, conspiracy theorists think he’s not dead. Living another life of luxury. Changed appearance. False papers. Money could do that for you. Not his own of course, but that from friends in high places to keep him quiet. Anything is possible I suppose.

Esspee Thu 30-Dec-21 00:03:38

A most satisfactory outcome in my opinion.

There will be many rich and powerful men who will now be worrying about what will come out next.

Kalu Thu 30-Dec-21 00:24:18

Good. The verdict I was hoping for.

So Andrew thinks himself above the law. What a coward, abusing his royal status to hide behind.

maddyone Thu 30-Dec-21 00:42:16

I can’t think of any reason why Prince Andrew’s evidence should be kept secret.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 30-Dec-21 04:34:59

The RF cannot act is if they are above the law.

Their marital shenanigans exist in every generation right down now to William.

DiamondLily Thu 30-Dec-21 05:00:33

Maxwell, allegedly, might be able to reduce her sentence, if she supplies evidence of others involved.

It remains to be seen whether she does or not, but I bet a few powerful men are sweating now….

Whitewavemark2 Thu 30-Dec-21 07:33:54

BREAKING: Prince Andrew has proven he is not guilty of sexual offences by attempting to get off on the technicality that his accuser is now living in Australia, rather than America, so she shouldn't be allowed to sue. This is totally the type of thing an innocent person would do.
