How does one feel about a Queen's guard trampling on a boy who careered into him yesterday?

Hetty58 Thu 30-Dec-21 10:01:02

Parents? - filming of course - looks like a set-up to me - anything for Tiktok fame.

MOD response to the incident:

The Guardsmen on duty warned members of the public that a patrol was approaching but the child unfortunately ran out in front of the soldier unexpectedly. The soldier tried to step over the child and continued on his duty.
“Following the incident, the soldier checked on the child and was reassured that all was well.

As previously stated, soldiers are not there as a tourist attraction; they're on duty and have a job to do. Get in their way and you suffer the consequences. The parents of this child are 100% responsible for the incident.

As Captain Mainwaring would have said,

‘Stupid boy!’

?

He didn't trample him, he stepped carefully over him.
In some countries the boy would have got trampled on.

The boy was old enough to know better and his parents are irresponsible.

The Royal Guard have made it clear in previous incidents that they are there on duty and will draw their weapons if people don't stand back when told to. They are not just toy soldiers, they are protecting the Royal family or premises. There have been incidents where they have drawn their weapons on members of the dopey public who have gone too far.

One feels that the parents of the badly behaved child should be bringing him up better.

SueDonim Thu 30-Dec-21 10:50:24

A similar scene is enacted many times a day in my house, with a cat instead of a child. Our mog manages to be under our feet all the blooming time, anyone would think he enjoyed being stepped on. ??

I think we all agree on this one, which makes to a pleasant change! As has been said, certain newspapers will use completely over the top emotional language to describe usually mildly inconvenient or slightly unfortunate events. Favorites are bombshell, heartbreak (the Queens altered Christmas arrangements apparently caused her to be heartbroken!!) Smash is another favorite, thus this poor guardsmen 'trampling' on this child is yet another idiotic comment from out increasingly idiotic media

How times have changed. When I was a child in the early 50's that boy would have had a clip round the ear for causing so much trouble.

henetha Thu 30-Dec-21 10:56:18

Just an accident, surely, and blown up out of all proportion, as usual.

Gwyneth Thu 30-Dec-21 10:59:47

Attention seeking behaviour possibly encouraged by the parents.

Haha, this made me laugh. But how true it is.

Jaberwok Thu 30-Dec-21 12:08:05

Oh heavens yes!!As a girl I wouldn't have had a clip, but a severe telling off with my parents offering sincere apologies to the tour guide or whoever, but that was then and now is now and times have changed

Tulpia Thu 30-Dec-21 12:59:34

One feels this whole thing is pathetic. The child was not 'trampled' but stepped over and the soldier subsequently returned to ensure he was ok. He isn't a toddler and shouldn't have been standing in their path. His parents should have moved him. He immediately got to his feet, apparently unharmed from being stepped over.

Rosie51 Thu 30-Dec-21 17:56:53

Thanks for the link Alegrias1. Wasn't it nice of the soldier to come back and interact with the boy? As you say, that's how you do it, with respect.

Calistemon Thu 30-Dec-21 18:40:33

Thanks Alegrias

That's how to do it!

Alegrias1 Thu 30-Dec-21 19:04:13

Rosie51, Calistemon, I think that's a lovely clip!

But Meghan married a soldier! She should know the rules.

*Rosie51*, Calistemon, I think that's a lovely clip!

Alegrias1 I've enjoyed watching it a few times and have now sent the link to quite a number of people! I have credited you for having posted it smile I'm getting very positive feedback, lots of 'aaaahs, how lovely'.

The boy’s parent was there. These guardsmen have to put up with an awful lot of baiting from tourists. He didn’t trample the boy and the boy shouldn’t have been in his way.
