Absolutely. It’s amazing how short peoples memories are when it comes to politics. Then again that’s why I’m never forgive Thatcher for the hell my family went through during her years as PM. Apart from Iraq I’d like to know examples of how people were personally adversely affected by Blair’s polices when he was PM. As for Gordon Brown I can only assume that some people haven’t been listening to his calm, statesmanlike advice throughout the pandemic. Imo a throughly decent man who sadly didn’t have the charisma that the electorate seem to crave these days.

I believe there is a petition on the go for Blair not to receive his knighthood. I was lost for words when he was made Middle Eastern Peace Envoy and here I am again. If he had a shred of decency he would refuse to accept it. Odious excuse for a man.

I'm shocked at that too Smileless, it just beggars belief if it's true. The thought that Cowardly Cameron and Boris the Buffoon will automatically receive a gong, despite all they've done to wreck the country, is nauseating. Bliar's hubris at accepting the gong, infuriates me; he should have refused it, as Michael Foot did.

So what you're saying is Atqui is that regardless of whether or not the Queen thinks TB deserves a knighthood, he's been given one so a future PM would be able to receive one too.

The one PM I’ve changed my mind about is Gordon Brown - he seems to be morally and intellectually superior to any PM we’ve had since. He’s the only one I can think of who seemed to be sincere in what he tried to do ( not all of it successful before I get piled on) . Not sure if he has or hasn’t had an honour - he should do.

As Forsythia and I pointed out, no PM succeeding Blair could be given the honour by the Queen until Blair had received one himself. So even if there had been a brilliant PM , they would not have received the honour as Blair’s lack of knighthood was blocking the system .

Can you remember how Cameron met that Mum off mumsnet who had a child with a disability and promised there wouldn't be a cap on continence products and how he was a champion for children with disabilities as he understood. Then the continence products were cut further, cuts to services and education for those with special needs, cuts to the NHS. What a champion he was

People do turn down honours at every level. It might be that Tony Blair turned down honours to begin with to burnish his 'man of the people' image, but couldn't really turn down this hnour as it was direct from the Queen and he is now part of a very select group, or maybe, as it is one out, one in. He was just standing in a queue waiting for his number to come up.

Do you mean the Cameron that set up Brexit, got what he wanted and then bolted because he didn't know where to begin with what he'd engineered? The Cameron who took on the lying, deceitful Andy Coulson as his Communications Director, knowing of his involvement in the phone hacking affair? That Cameron? When they start dishing out gongs for dishonest, lying cowards, I'm fairly sure he'll be first in the queue.

Devolution was a case of Blair doing the right thing for the wrong reason. His government thought it would be the end of Scottish nationalism. Then along came Cameron and his desire to silence the dissidents in his own party. The union is in danger because of the EU referendum and not because of devolution. If it is true that Tory lite Blair is being honoured to pave the way for Cameron then the Queen’s decision is causing further dissent and no good will come of that.

While I accept that there were many good things which came about as a result of his time in power - devolution being just one of them! - his actions in taking us to war with Iraq will never be forgotten nor forgiven. As an ex-Army mum, I'm forever grateful that my son came back from his tours of Iraq and Afghanistan safe and sound, but there's not a day goes by that I don't think of those families who were not so fortunate, or the servicemen and women who are still suffering as a result. And for what?

My feeling exactly Blondiescot both my boys served and at one time both where in Afgan & Irag at the same time I was terrified for them,quite a few boys never came home friends of my boys, some had stayed with us over the years all for the ego of this man I hope the uproar about this award is massive and it be rescinded .
