This is the opinion of one New York Times journalist:

Boris Johnson, your deflections and distractions are absurd.

Not only did you know about the parties in Downing Street, you attended them.

Stop lying to the British public. It’s time to finally come clean.

Am I the only one who voted to Remain ? Foreseeing the shambles that a Brexit vote would bring ?

Anyway, you can bet your life that there'd have been a few from the Met police at this party----another corrupt organisation !

No you certainly were not and the numbers of those who believe that we should certainly not have left are growing daily.

It is just that GN does not reflect what is happening in the general population because of the demographics.

Once we get rid of this populist load of right wingers, then I suspect rejoining the SM and CU will be a priority.

This will come from parties of all colours including a “normalised” Tory party, that has shed the extremists.

Nobody can condone the No.10 BYOB picnic/garden party on 20/05/2020, this could be the beginning of the end for Mr.Johnson.

I guess there are lots of good Conservative MPs rapidly checking their in-boxes, seeing the anger and disgust from the electorate.

This might be the push they need to send their letter into the 1922 committee?

The news on the radio this morning was all about Novax and this latest BJ revelation. The speaker mentioned two witnesses who had seen BJ and his wife their, so I waited eagerly to hear the witnesses names. Had to stop the car before they were revealed. Can anyone tell me who these witnesses were? They too must have been at the party.

We all know its one rule for Westminster and one for the rest of us .Catherine Calderwood lost her job because she broke the rules....and she went by car with her family to her holiday home,no parties involved...and then there's Margaret ferrier in court this week for travelling with Covid which is the right thing she should have been charged.
Now remind me about Cummings .
Shame the WM circus has its own rule and that says NO rules apply to them Even sadder that so many folk think thats OK!

Kali2 Tue 11-Jan-22 12:04:40

The reason they are not keen to investigate, methinks?

Can those bills be repealed when we have a different government?

I don’t see why not?

Kali2 Tue 11-Jan-22 11:53:13

Johnson is actually irrelevant in this dangerous game. He was only chosen because he fitted the profile that would attact votes from many. Just a tool- and will be discarded soon. What is behind is much much more sinister, the ERG.

Of course people are free to vote however they choose - but there are consequences, and people are totally entitled to voice their dismay and concerns too.

We have met some true blue Conservatives recently, family and friends. We didn't discuss any of this- but I am so glad they had the courage and the honesty to say 'we have made a massive mistake'. We didn't dwelve on it, but we were truly impressed they had volunteered to say it.

Alegrias1 Tue 11-Jan-22 11:49:30

Its not a matter of how or why someone voted. Its a matter of still not accepting that maybe, just maybe, the promised sunlit uplands and dappled fields of flowers were maybe, just maybe, a mirage that people bought into because they were conned and the whole thing was an edifice built on sand?

And that maybe people could have a bit more nous and stop pretending that everything's a bed of roses and that it doesn't matter what happens, they exercised their democratic right to elect a numpty?

My, that was a lot of metaphors...

End of what GG13? Discussion? Criticism of the government? Opinion?

The likelihood of bent Boris getting advisors with a moral compass is on a par with him giving up lying. Never going to happen.

Just getting fed up seeing Urmstongran harassed and somewhat bullied because she is honest in why and how she voted.

Anyone is free to use their vote however they choose in the U.K.

Alegrias1 Tue 11-Jan-22 11:43:38

anyone with half a brain surely realised it would not be done and dusted easily or swiftly.

They clearly haven't got half a brain between them then. Keep reading until number 13, it's a corker.

Kali2 Tue 11-Jan-22 11:43:37

Voting on just one issue, especially without knowing what it actually meant- is a very dangerous thing to do.

Brexit is NOT done- it is falling apart, and Liz Truss will make sure of that. If she triggers Art 16, the consequences will be dire. Believe me, or not. Call it Project Fear, scare mongering, whatever you wish. Just watch.

I remember an anecdote about the making of a film depicting a grand prix crash. Time and time again the extras acting the role of spectators failed to respond with the horror that such a scene would have generated. As a last resort the director blew up the tea van. That got their attention. The British voting public are very good at not reacting to draconian legislations being snuck through parliament until the metaphorical tea van is blown up. Drink parties for big wigs may well prove to be the tea van.

Alegrias1 Tue 11-Jan-22 11:34:31

Nobody should be made to feel guilty or told to apologise for the way they voted, end of!!!!

Normally I'd agree with you GG13, if it came to party politics.

But when it comes to Brexit, no, if you voted for this s**tshow and the charlatan who promised to get it done, then you are to blame for helping ruin this country. A bit of contrition would go a long way.

I voted for my Conservative constituency MP, no regrets they have been good for my area.

Mr.Johnson needs to give his head a wobble, get some good advisors with excellent knowledge of politics in the U.K. and sound moral compasses. Then he needs to listen to them and act appropriately.

As for Brexit, the U.K. was part of what evolved into the EU for over forty years, anyone with half a brain surely realised it would not be done and dusted easily or swiftly. Hopefully over the coming months, years things will settle down and the U.K. can move onwards and upwards.

Your intention was to lead us to believe that she is an American journalist ( living in New York? ) when she’s not. She’s a British journalist selling her article.
And once again: there is nothing new in this article.
We have several members on GN who could just as easily have written that piece, she has written nothing new or informative.

I have a chum who is a known journalist.
She has always sold articles to North America publications mainly for the money. At least what she writes tends not to be political.

Well let's hope that people will bother about this latest in a longline of revelations about the couldn't care less attitude of this government and the man at the top. I thought his smirking when being interviewed on the news spoke volumes.
Johnson has no regard for rules .He is not fit to be a leader of anything, let alone a country.

Most people don't care about anything unless it affects them personally. To my mind this article says nothing new. Nobody will bother.

Indeed.
In The Times to-day. focus groups have been asked about the PM's behaviour and little damage has been done, Irritation is the feeling but until Labour gets it's Act to-gether, J is still "top cat",

I don't understand how anyone can 'lend someone a vote' without some considerable reference to their past record, wider manifesto and proven principles.

To base a decision that will influence everything that happens in our society for four years on one, single issue is beyond me.

Jackiest Tue 11-Jan-22 10:50:15

Brexit has not been done it has been bodged to look like it has been done by pushing all the problems under the carpet to be sorted out later.

Kali2 Tue 11-Jan-22 10:26:08

''Brexit Done. I’m happy with that.''

has it been done? Has it been done well if it has? Why is Truss negotiating, NOW?!?

Luckygirl3 Tue 11-Jan-22 10:25:48

But 'proper choices' at the ballot box is a fantasy under the First Past the Post system.

Exactly.

We need fewer parties rather than more in order to stand any chance of getting rid of this awful crew of charlatans.
