Boris may be backed into a corner here but it's nowhere he hasn't been before and wheedled out of it, so I expect the same over this. I hold my hand up and say I voted for Boris as he seemed the only party leader prepared to finally get Brexit done and dusted. He has turned out to be or has probably always been a self-serving liar who hopes when he's found out that his bumbling, smirking manner will somehow get him off the hook. When I look at the likely successors to Boris it makes my blood run cold. Not many choices there and what worries me more, no robust, decent alternatives in other political parties. Britain deserves so much better.

I agree with a lot of what you say.
However my blood doesn’t run cold looking at possible alternatives to Johnson.
The political pundits seem to think they ( the Party) will wait until after May and see how he does then.This also gives them time ( the possible successors) to get their ducks in a row.

They can come up with a more competent alternative, GagaJo, but see my previous post.

I forgot to mention that the ERG group dominating the tory MPs also overlaps closely with the 'Let's pretend covid19 no longer exists and declare total freedom from mitigation measures' parliamentary group.

Anyone not tainted as well as not associated by the ERG. A minority of MPs have held far too much power over the majority.

You forgot about the ERG Gaga, they hold all the strings, in a very sinister way. Johnson was just a tool for them.

I'm not a Tory (never!) supporter, but SURELY they can come up with a credible alternative? They can't all be lying, selfish t**ts can they? I know I'm biased. But I'm also a realist. We're stuck with them, so would like a better alternative to those that have lied, profiteered and partied throughout the pandemic.

There MUST be some viable alternatives.

I doubt it whatever happens as there would have to be a leadership process which takes some time. The most we might have would be an 'acting' PM. How long was it between Cameron and May, or May & Johnson?

None of the possible successors are in any way desirable; they all have a Thatcher on Speed (the drug) obssession with small state (slashing public spending, bye bye NHS), deregulation (of everything, workers' pay & conditions, environmental protections, food safety standards...) and Free Market policies (which aren't as benign as they sound).

And all the authoritarian legislation that's in the pipeline will still be passed.

Johnson has been irrelevant to government for quite some time now. The ERG is in control...

Sadly, I think he will still be there but then, he is the devil we know. I cannot think of one single person I have an iota of respect for enough to fill this. I was actually thinking of Theresa May today. I think she was honourable but, unfortunately, useless at the job.

The tories aren’t rushing to defend him. No doubt Cummings has a stack of other misdemeanours ready to leak when he sees fit.
Johnson doesn’t have a history of apologising for his endless mistakes or lies.
When we did our review of the year on new year’s Eve with our hopes and predictions for 2022 -I predicted Johnson gone by Easter

I am not a supporter of BJ, and feel it is time he was shown the door of No. 10 Downing St.
A popular successor would be the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak and he is tainted by association to the matter of the May 20 2020 possible “Garden Party”.
The Chancellor resides at No.11 - was he at the possible “Party”?
Was he in residence on May 20 2020?
Was he not aware of a large gathering going on (if it did) even if he did not attend?
Did he report it to Policef he did see or hear anything?
Police already guard Downing Street day and night. Did they know there was maybe a “Garden Party” on May 2020 or other dates we haven’t yet heard about?
I will watch PM Questions at noon today.

Don’t forget that the Tory party voted for him even though they knew he was a known liar and corrupt.

The problems lies much deeper than Johnson.

Not sure, but my problem is with his replacement, every single one of them are tainted by association.

They so need a complete change.

I'd be very surprised if we did.
