I just think back to March 2020 when fines were dished out if more than the quota of people gathered, I think 6 were allowed at a funeral at the time. Who would want police swooping down at a funeral ?
Only 2 of my GGC were allowed to attend the funeral of their dad ! My D took them, so that was 3, which meant only parents and 1 aunt of the dead man were allowed. None of his pals or extended family from Ireland.
This was a young man, a dad aged 33 with only 6 mourners at his funeral. Everyone was already heartbroken to start with and with the restrictions in place at the time it made things worse.
Up to now there still hasn't been a memoriam in place to commemorate his short life because again, gatherings have been to a minimum and arrangements can't be finalised.
We as a family will always think of this when others were enjoying themselves flouting the rules.

More No.10 parties
(148 Posts)According to the Daily Telegraph there were 2 parties held at No. 10 Downing Street the night before Prince Philip's socially distanced funeral.
This thread by the Telegraph's political editor:
We have spoken to eyewitnesses. At a leaving do for a No10 photographer it’s alleged:
Staff partied in the basement of No10, to music DJd by a special adviser.
One broke Wilf Johnson’s swing in the No10 garden.
Another was sent to the Co-op with a suitcase to buy booze.
Another event held to mark the departure of James Slack, Mr Johnson’s chief spinner, saw:
Staff gathered for a speech from Slack, with others dialling in via Zoom.
Booze drunk and attendees spilling into the garden.
Chatting and drinking into the early hours.

There is another viewpoint that we did not need all the restrictions put into place - they were there to frighten the public into submission. If Whitehall and the Government were aware of this maybe that is why they felt free to break the rules. I don’t know this, just wondering out loud from other reports. Still shouldn’t have happened.
This has crossed my mind, too, 25Avalon.
I don't think the government should have put any restrictions in place that they weren't happy to adhere to themselves.
Apart from the Covid lockdown rules being broken I don’t think alcohol should be allowed anywhere except the private quarters. This is a place of work not a social club. The same goes for Westminster, there’s often talk about the multiple bars with subsidised drinks, and whose paying for that discount probably us the tax paying public.
When the first inkling of partying became rumoured I did wonder at the staff employed at No 10 for domestic running of the place. Surely they would know what was going on. Turns out some apparently made complaints about it all. No doubt swept under the carpet or flushed away!

Were you there, were the Civil servants dancing and boozing or were they having a drink for a colleague who was leaving?
This issue is being hyped and manipulated beyond belief with msm using vile ‘my …, died alone’ to push their agenda.
Apologising to the Queen is a clue
Well WWM2 would you have wanted to go to a party then? I certainly wouldn’t so did they know something we didn’t? Makes you think.

That makes it even worse?

Dinahmo I do not agree that majority of the press are Tory supporters! Try listening to anything coming from BBC & Sky. They continually run down the government & it would be no different who was in power! I have a friend who’s husband is wound up all the time by the reports from BBC & Sky. He does hate everything Tory & worships anything Labour! His choice as we all have our own choices but it just gets sad listening to him ranting on all the time about Tory corruption fuelled by a lot of the Media. There is more to life than this is what I am trying to say & we have to get a balance between what is said by different sides with different agendas! New Year New Start please? Lets just wait & see what is next from Cummings that my friends husband will jump on along with many others! I really cannot be bothered with it all now, we have to get over it as cannot change it or do anything about it after all the time passed now! I really think I will leave this thread as I have other things to think of & am fed up with all the misery this is causing!
Breaking news on my phone that No. 10 has apologised to the Queen over two parties held in the building the night before Prince Philip's funeral.
Words fail me.
Downing Street have just issued an apology to the Queen
Why is anybody surprised? A so called government, which got elected by less than 44% on nothing more than a 3 word slogan, and with that vote achieves a majority of over 80 seats, must feel they're untouchable and they will stay in power for as long as they like, because with that majority, achieved by a ludicrous voting system (the only European country apart from Belarus!) who can challenge them and the system? The media being complicit...
I would be interested to know how many of the partygoers were SPADs / political appointments and how many were members of the Civil Service proper.
SillyNanny321 Considering that the majority of the press are Tory supporters what is their agenda?
We do not hate others (I assume you mean the PM and the govt) but we are angry at them for the damage that they have done and are continuing to do.
Our Queen sat alone and masked at her husband's funeral. Decades of being married ended with that image of loneliness - her duty and leadership forefront.
The night before, those clowns at no 10 dancing and boozing.
I am choked with both sadness and rage.
Getting very fed up with all of this now! Opposition & Media seem to have nothing else to do but try to end Johnson & the Tories. He maybe a clown but he has done far more than a lot of the leaders of other country's have. All of this is being slowly leaked by that disgruntled idiot Cummings who just wants to ruin Johnson for not doing as he, Cummings, wanted & letting him run the country. While I am not a big Boris fan I cannot see anyone else managing to do what he has tried to do! I feel for those who have lost loved ones while all the parties seem to have been going on but the attendees were all highly tested people working in close contact all day every day so were not passing on the virus to someone else! This has been hyped up by Opposition & Media with their own agendas! Can we please take a break from this now & get a bit of a better life for us all as life does not last for long & continually hating on others when we do not know & never will know the whole story is wasting our lives! We all have our own opinions but cannot do anything about it after all this time!
Did Dominic Cummins release this latest information?
Dominic Cummings sh@@ stirring again!!. I take it all with a pinch of salt

What I find most interesting about this issue is: If these ‘so called’ parties were such an issue, why were they not brought to the public attention at the time. The media were obviously well aware that these events were taking place as there are more leaks in No.10 than a colander.
Could it be that now that BJ has got Brexit through and he has borne the worst of the pandemic whilst ushering in a vaccination development and delivery that is regarded as world leading, he is now considered too socio/liberal and should be replaced by a person that aligns more closely with the Conservative ideology.
I am also intrigued by the timing of these leaks but don't think it is a conspiracy to get rid of him. Johnson is his own worst enemy; apparently doesn't like the detail (where the devil is) and has a terrible laissez-faire attitude to life. He is probably taken advantage of in many ways.
However, I try to be fair-minded and do not think the man is evil; just in the wrong job.
I find it worrying that too many ex-journalists go into politics. Gove is another. We need more Scientists and Technologists in Government. The ability to weave words wonderfully shouldn't be the main criteria of a politician but often is,
What also concerns me is the realisation that these people were potentially making decisions about the country/our lives whilst under the influence. Boris needs to go now. I can't stand the sight of his blustering self pity any longer - his only concern is that he has been caught out in yet more lies.
I do worry that Sue Gray (whoever she is) may get him off the hook as a lot of MPs don't appear to be worried about the report

Disgraceful. Corrupt. Embarrassing. Watching the Secretary of State for Wales trying to defend Boris on QT last night was depressing to say the least. Hapless. Boris has set a climate in No 10 and more widely that we cannot accept in a PM. He has demeaned the role and he must go.
Should I be embarrassed to say I didn't even know who he was?
That's him gone before long, then, if he supports Boris.
Actually, I remember Alun Cairns because he was proactive and helped with local issues until he had to resign because of a scandal.
I would like to see every single one of those party goers to be treated the same as anyone else outside No 10 that have attended gatherings that were at the time illegally held and be fined.
What sort of people are they ?
You would expect that they would be relatively intelligent people with the brains to follow, like the rest of us, the rules that were in place at the time.
A public apology wouldn't go amiss either.
