Has our country ever been in such a state?

A senior Tory now urging other Tory MPs to report to the police because it appears that they were threatened with blackmail by the government for withdrawal of funding, public shame or boundary changes.

Oh thanks maizie I’ve just seen your post.

That’s what I meant?

There’s a really interesting episode of In Our Time about the gold standard, that explains everything you need to know about currency. I’d love to say I understood it but I didn’t but some of you might! I’ll give it another go. I now realise why I gave up doing economics A level. My brain just doesn’t work in that way.

I so agree Madashell. This country is being ruined by a corrupt incompetent government voted in by a MINORITY of those who voted in 2019, but that minority vote resulted in an eighty seat majority allowing them to do whatever they wanted for the next five years. Belarus is the only other undemocratic European country. They also elect their government by FPTP and look what a state they're in.

One of the worst aspects of FPTP is the way voters feel they have to vote negatively, for the lesser of two evils, rather than positively for the party they actually want to support. No wonder voters are so cynical and feel powerless to effect real change.

Johnson was the lesser of the two evils. Corbyn lost the last election, even in my area which had voted Labour since forever. oh yes and don’t forget those who couldn’t be bothered to go out and vote.

Have you got a link to that, Maybee? Or what date it was broadcast?

Johnson was the lesser of the two evils.

Well, that turned out to be wrong, didn't it? There can't have been a more evil person than Johnson. How he fooled you all...even though people who knew him well kept on warning you...

Islamaphobia in the Tory party.

Something we always knew/suspected now apparently being confirmed by a Tory MP.

Really think this Whip would say this, considering she has the premise of being right on her side, and he would know this. So why say it? Defaming and being very divisive, perhaps she was just not the right person for the role. Let’s wait and see rather than chucking racist aspersion over every Tory MP.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 23-Jan-22 10:48:45

I would refer you to Baroness Warsi, I would prefer to get my understanding of the problem in the Tory party from her, rather than a supporter of Johnson trying to save his skin.

Mollygo Sun 23-Jan-22 10:52:08

I’m waiting for Starmer to promise PR elections if Labour get in. I wrote to him about it ages ago, but no response so far. Do you think Labour would go for it?

Whitewavemark2 Sun 23-Jan-22 11:01:02

I do not envy Tory MPs who want Johnson gone.

Johnson will do anything to save his own skin, and can be dangerous when cornered, to the extent that we know that he tries to get people who cross him beaten up.

At the moment he is throwing out headline policies regardless of their potential outcome, in order to avoid accountability. Look at just last week - we had Patel sending in the RN - what happened to that? We had Dorries attacking the BBC, that was clearly politically motivated. We had Ghana telling Patel to bugger off when she quite arbitrarily decided that she would send asylum seekers to be “held” there is some sort of concentration camps. And finally We had Shapps announcing that he was going to cut down on excessive train announcements ?

Johnson is also involved in what is almost certainly criminal conduct in relation to blackmail.

Just a week in the Johnson government.

“Johnson will do anything to save his own skin, and can be dangerous when cornered, to the extent that we know that he tries to get people who cross him beaten up”

That’s quite an accusation?

I agree he’s not just a buffoon he is not a nice guy but….

Whitewavemark2 Sun 23-Jan-22 11:14:10

Don’t you remember the reporter episode?

'A couple of black eyes': Johnson and the plot to attack a reporter.

Lucca Sun 23-Jan-22 11:15:52

I don’t! I’ll investigate

Whitewavemark2 Sun 23-Jan-22 11:16:00

Just read a Tory mp suggested that it is time that Johnson left by announcing that he wants to spend more time with his families ????

I think whoever posted that was confused. He was helping a friend to get a journalist beaten up. It was the friend who was cross with the journalist.

Quite honestly, I think that Johnson is quite vile enough without making up ( or innocently passing on) false stories about him.

Oh and , Lucca, Johnson's friend subsequently spent some time as an involuntary guest of Her Majesty on being convicted of fraud IIRR. Another product of our wonderful Public School system...

It’s the most recent one. I know you often explain financial stuff so I thought you’d find it interesting. You can explain it to me! I will listen to it again. I love In Our Time.
