I knew that title would draw you in!

Rory Stewart on why its not only Johnson we should be blaming. A leopard doesn't change its spots.

Boris Johnson is a terrible prime minister and a worse human being. But he is not a monster newly sprung from a rent between this world and the next. Twenty years have passed since the Conservative party first selected him as a candidate. Michael Howard and David Cameron made him a shadow minister, and Theresa May gave him the Foreign Office. Thirty years of celebrity made him famous for his mendacity, indifference to detail, poor administration, and inveterate betrayal of every personal commitment. Yet, knowing this, the majority of Conservative MPs, and party members, still voted for him to be prime minister. He is not, therefore, an aberration, but a product of a system that will continue to produce terrible politicians long after he is gone.

"Im deeply suspicious of a government that quite ready to murder other country’ citizens, notably those trying to cross the Channel in small dinghies."

What a ridiculous comment to make!!! Our government put these illegal immigrants in four star hotels and treat them very well rather than let them live in squalid tents like they do in France. Perhaps if the French government were to treat them as kindly they wouldn't be so keen to risk crossing the channel to come here.

The immigrants who live in the tent camps do so to avoid being 'in the system ' in France. It is tougher here to get settled status but they are housed while awaiting. Those who know they are in danger of being sent home choose to evade the services and head for the channel.
Please read up on these subjects, the gutter press deceive you

There are some good things that Boris has done. In fact, he does get things done. I wonder how many people can honestly say that they haven’t broken even the tiniest of rules? Who knows how many parties were held in hospitals or other places where work continued through the pandemic- Boris is an easy target - The victim of his own carelessness- yes, he’s the prime minister and takes responsibility for what happens in Downing Street - however, others may be much better at dissembling- Dominic Cummings is getting his revenge of course - not a trustworthy colleague - with someone like him on board, who needs enemies? Any institution is riven with secrets and poor behaviour- we are all flawed humans. I think there is a certain amount of hysteria and hypocrisy around - someone must be blamed - the media present biased statistics, interview those with an axe to grind and instil fear - scientists who have been trusted to give the facts, don’t always get it right. Blame China if you must - or just blame Covid - we have no idea how many Chinese or Russian citizens died - and will never know - many people died with Covid but not of Covid. We could not close down our country - London is the very crowded capital of a major world economy - unlike the saintly Jacinda In New Zealand - only for her to find that now it is rampaging through the islands. Who on earth could have managed Covid any better? What an unenviable time to be in charge. I like Rory Stewart but wonder how he would have fared if he had been in charge - he sounds good but hindsight is a wonderful thing -I have met Boris and was not particularly impressed- But am grateful for the vaccine initiative- the current witch-hunt is a horror to witness - we have all suffered in one way or another - do we really need a scapegoat? We need to pull together to get back to normal.

Looking back over my (longish) lifetime,I can remember very few outstanding prime ministers (or politicians for that matter) except in the wrong way! Harold Wilson and his inviting of the Union reps in for beer and sandwiches whilst they debated how to run our country (as my Dad said, no one voted for the Unions to head the Government!) Maggie Thatcher selling off the council houses dirt cheap, many of which have ended up owned by private investors and are rented out at (high) market rates now! John Major and Norman Lamont and the financial crisis. Tony Blair, non existent weapons of mass destruction for which our troops died in an unnecessary war. Devolution. Mass immigration/‘globalism. PFI in the NHS (I was there…)! David Cameron/Theresa May (ineffectual) and Brexit. All Prime Ministers who have left a legacy of various types of chaos, certainly at the time and beyond. What choices we have had! Personally, I am far more concerned about the present Ukraine/Russia standoff and the political and other implications for ourselves, Europe and freedom!

Quite!

Yes this anti Boris tirade has got VERY boring ?.

Tinydancer Mon 24-Jan-22 13:43:51

Posh paws did not say tyrant she said he has NPD, Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Those who have it do not recognise that the have it. It is definitely well worth looking into this condition, it explains a lot about some of the people we come into contact with. It means you can help or advise those unfortunate enough to be suffering at their hands. Very helpful if it is one of your loved ones.
She did use the word evil in relation to the PM, Patel and Rees Mogg. I can see no good in these three individuals and have wondered about it myself. I am horrified at their attitude to there fellow human beings.

Chocolatelovinggran Mon 24-Jan-22 13:42:09

Callistemon, I was thinking of Boris Johnson, in my post on schooling but the observation would apply equally to Rory Stewart, or, indeed, many of our leaders whose formative years were spent in the strange parallel universe that is a British public school.

Johnson's got Narcissistic Personality Disorder (if you don't know the symptoms, Google it and you'll see he ticks every single box) but I believe he's also actually evil - like Rees-Mogg and Patel and it "boggles my mind" that apparently 34% of the electorate STILL think "he's doing his best" and "he got us through Covid". The Conservative Party in my opinion is itself an evil entity, so it doesn't surprise me that they made him PM. I saw the Rory Stewart video and was quite amazed and impressed.

Ridiculous comment. Honestly people are really getting outrageous in their anti Tory rants. Pol Pot, Hitler , Stalin, Mussolini were all murdering tyrants. When our Gov sends in the army to murder it’s own citizens, then you can call Johnson a tyrant.

Nope. I’d call over 153k deaths from Covid pretty Tyrannical. Mainly due to ineptitude, I grant you.

Incredibly, he’s overtaken Thatcher as the worst Tory PM in history.

I think it’s “rend” but I agree.

No it's definitely rent,past tense

Whatever happens it's never BJ's fault - it's always someone else who did it or didn't do it or never told him. He has to go.

Secretsquirrel1 Mon 24-Jan-22 12:52:15

On the down side, BJ may well be a big fibber who wasn’t sticking to the lockdown rules but on the plus side he isn’t Jeremy Corbin. What ever mistakes BJ has made I hate to think of how catastrophic it would have been with JC in charge of managing the pandemic.

^Im deeply suspicious of a government that quite ready to murder other country’ citizens, notably those trying to cross the Channel in small dinghies.^

Could you please give an example of when the government have given instructions that asylum seekers in small dinghies should be murdered. And indeed were murdered. Have our coastguards been instructed to deflate the dinghies and watch people drown? Or line them up on the shore and shoot them?

I've done it already, maddyone. Just read the thread.

I didn't say they'd 'given instructions'. I've said they are prepared to countenance it.

Russ in Cheshire is one of my daily Twitter reads, he is very funny and hits the nail on the head, politically.

MaggsMcG Mon 24-Jan-22 12:26:34

I'm 69 and 9 months old. I was o e of the fitsy 18 year olds to vote in the country. So I've been watching politics for 50 years. I don't think I have ever actually trusted any Partyto be fair to everyone. The Labour Party increases benefits and takes the extra from those working. The Torys cut taxes but also take the extra from those working. Its about time a party helped those that help themselves a hit more than those that don't. If someone genuinely CAN'T Work then I'm all for them getting all the help they need. I also think the laws around tax avoidance should be tightened.

To
Poshpaws - you think Johnson and the Conservative party are evil. That's absolutely ridiculous.
Look around the world you can see evil everywhere. We don't know we're born here.
Taliban, murderers, child murderers, hate speech purveyors, greedy landlords etc. etc.

I agree with them. It's just that his best is not very good.

Just as Trump was merely an extreme statement of the state of Republican politics, Mr J shows the face of those in control of the Tory party.
Go to www.compassonline.org.uk/ and work towards the creation of a progressive alliance. Coalitions have been very successful in Germany and it is one way to shake up the current stalemate!

Oops! Totally misread the post and thought it was Rod Stewart - I was wondering when he had suddenly become so politically insightful!!!

???????

Read “Sad Little Men” by Richard Beard and you’ll understand why Boris & his ilk fail to serve the electorate.

trisher Mon 24-Jan-22 11:38:44

I do think peope who voted for Boris will still be supporting him in many areas. I think the reasoning probably goes like this. All politicians are corrupt and self serving. They are all in it for themselves are lining their pockets and fairly useless anyway. Boris is absolutely the same as the rest of them, but he keeps making gaffes so we all see what he is up to and know how useless he is. It is better to have a useless idiot than a devious bastard who can pull the wool over your eyes. Plus Boris is undoubtedly one of the lads and probably good fun on a night out. (these are not my opinions)

Was going to add “ You wear it well” in my comments but am just sitting back watching and reading ??

he is ridiculous , but no different to the mad world of politics,to dream of a day when the world is a fair ,caring place
when the needs of other is over ,what can i get from you,
dream on........

Lin663 Mon 24-Jan-22 11:09:08

Boris is as he has always been…Rory Stewart is dead right. I find it hard to take anyone seriously who 1. Voted for him and 2. Think he’s done/doing a great job….
