Why no criticism of Carrie?

Carrie Johnson, nee Symonds, appears to be involved in almost if not all these "partygate" shenanigans and is the basis for the ridiculous expenditure in 10 Downing Street flat, now is revealed as organiser of BJ's birthday party. Why no censure or criticism of her?. She is a former press adviser to the Tory parity, so knows the situation.

Callistemon21 Tue 25-Jan-22 19:35:05

Carrie did, however, organise Boris's surprise birthday party with M&S food, drink and a ?.

Perhaps she didn't realise that the gathering she organised with food and drink was a party.

Carrie was not and is not a politician so whether or not you like her is not the issue. Marriage is no longer a requirement to have children or live together so where she lived is not important.

It loathe Johnson but imagine he is attractive to some women. He is powerful which is attractive in itself and I imagine Carrie thinks she can change him and with her it will be different. She wont be the first woman to think that.

Mrs Johnson isn’t responsible for lockdown breaches. I shouldn’t have referred to her as Carrie Antoinette because that could suggest I blame her, rather than the PM for expensive refurbishments, garden parties, birthday parties and more.
I haven’t warmed to her, or admired her. Everything I read suggests a self admiring individual but - he’s the prime minister,
In any organisation, the culture is set by the `CEO. How can anyone be surprised at the drinking shambles that number 10 has demonstrably been

Exactly.

Nor any other honour.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 25-Jan-22 18:33:42

It would be a life peerage but I trust it won't happen if he has to resign due to the current mess.

MaizieD Tue 25-Jan-22 18:19:35

I think that any peerage a retiring PM might get (though I don't know about one that's had to be dragged out of NO.10 kicking and screaming) would be a life peerage, not a hereditary one.

But there's no automatic right to any sort of honour for a former PM. not even a knighthood.

The words 'honour' and 'Johnson' don't really sit well together, do they?

I quite like this playing with names stuff, whoever one is referring to.
What I don't like is that people who do so then get incensed if Omid Scobie is referred to as ScoobyDo because that is surely racist, not, yet Marie Antionette/Carrie can't possibly be xenophobic. Silly!

Yes, I remember that, Josieann, it was just a ridiculous criticism!
Scummings is fine, apparently, as is Demonic.

Cake, perhaps? ?

"Let them eat cake"
Actually, I think Marie Antoinette said brioche but it means being out of touch with what ordinary people are going through.

FannyCornforth Tue 25-Jan-22 17:53:02

Carrie will be thrown under the bus too if that’s all Johnson has left.
He is beyond immoral

FannyCornforth Tue 25-Jan-22 17:50:24

I think she is irrelevant too

It will come as no surprise that I agree with you Jane

Or Oprah Callistemon, then Carrie could really go for it with a well rehearsed performance!

There's no accounting for Cupid, Gagajo.

I wonder if cupid would have had the same effect if he were a bus driver?

We need Mrs Merton
She'd ask the right questions!

More importantly what's going to happen to the furnishings when they leave. Will they take them with them? I can't imagine the next incumbent wanting to live with them.

I agree, but when Gladstone moved into number 10 in 1880, he insisted on redecorating, spending £1,555.5s.0d – an enormous sum for the time, now £170,000. At least he got to come back twice more!
Can you imagine that? Another two rounds of Boris?

Coastpath Tue 25-Jan-22 17:13:40

There has been criticism of her. Her name has been all over the papers in relation to the decorating of No.10. She was clearly shown in photos of the drinks in the garden and and at a private members club wrapped up in a hug with a friend while we were all staying 2 metres from family and friends.
Today she was listed as being at the birthday party and we were told she brought the birthday cake.

I think you’ll find that Sarah Fergusson is still known as the Duchess of York. She’s been divorced for years. And who’s that odd Jamaican historian who was married for five minutes but still uses the title? I know, Lady Colin Campbell.

I wanted you to explain to me how it worked smile I don't understand what happens or how it works

Riverwalk Tue 25-Jan-22 16:56:14

I never like the phrase 'wears the trousers' makes it sound as though the man is not responsible for his actions, but it's not sexist to bring Carrie into the conversation.

She's fair game, as along with Cherie Blair & Hillary Clinton, is a politically active spouse, and a former employee of the Tory Party.

Johnson is unlikely to have been the instigator of the extravagant refurb of the flat and she must have known they wouldn't be personally paying for it.

She's not some innocent abroad, and just like her appalling husband thought the rules only applied to the little people.

Bignanny2 Tue 25-Jan-22 16:50:59

Because she’s not running the country. Telling the rest of us what to do. But she should be fined for breaking the rules as other people were.

winterwhite Tue 25-Jan-22 16:44:14

I’m surprised that no one has queried why so many ‘ juniot civil servants’ were in the office in the first place. Everyone else managed with zoom.

She’s younger than my youngest child and married to someone in their 50s. She is his third wife and won’t be the last. Once he resigns - and he will - he may well get a peerage. Carrie will then be Lady Johnson. She has two children, a boy and a girl. Her work will be complete. I wouldn’t be surprised if BJ hasn’t got someone new lined up already. I wonder how Carrie felt knowing that wife no, 2 was having cancer treatment while they were carrying on their affair? Just a thought.

How does the peerage thing work? wont she only be lady johnson whilst married to him? and wont his lord title go to his eldest son on his death? confused
