Is this tantamount to gagging order?

BBC News. Met police, who said they couldn’t investigate the past (parties) have asked or told Sue Gray to limit her report on publication.

I feel very suspicious about this. What if they decide there is no case? Will we never hear what actually was discovered?

Here is the link. I hope it works.

What I want to know as well is, where are all the media posts there must surely be about England doing so much worse with Covid because they didn’t impose the extra restrictions like the other parts of the UK recently?
I’d have thought it an ideal time to add that to the other news.

I have the greatest respect for the SB. Who is not a tory supporter by any means...

Their books are both well worth reading, too.

Yes, the report by The Secret Barrister was a very interesting read, and does explain a few things. I recommend reading it

Thanks for that link MaizieD. Very balanced view

^Tom Tugendhat says that Sue Gray's report should immediately be published in full^

The Secret Barrister posted an interesting blog about the report and the Met yesterday;

thesecretbarrister.com/2022/01/28/why-on-earth-would-the-metropolitan-police-ask-sue-gray-to-redact-key-parts-of-her-independent-report/

Thanks Maizie. That was very interesting and shows good reason for the Met not wanting the full report to be released yet.

LibDem leader Ed Davey also calls for the immediate publication of the full report

This has zilch to do with Brexit - it's a matter of observing the law re the pandemic and the integrity of the PM and his Ministers. Of course opposition parties will make hay with it as the Conservatives would do if they were in opposition but the key point is to see the report without redactions otherwise it will stink.

Amalegra Sat 29-Jan-22 12:03:56

I’m in no way surprised that this will probably be covered up as it has happened before and will no doubt happen again. Whatever happened to the investigation re cash for honours with Tony Blair back in 2005/6? Interviewed twice by the police, no proper conclusion or action, and now the guy’s Sir Tony! So arise Sir Boris I guess!

I saw a report this morning that Tom Tugendhat would throw his hat in the ring if Johnson goes. I don't know much about him or his policies.

But for a minute, I had the pleasant thought that we would have someone in charge who understands the concept of responsibility and would do what he thinks is right for the country. Somebody who wouldn't think they are entitled to do whatever they like. That we might have a functioning government again.

Boris rescued Cressida Dick when she faced calls for her resignation by renewing her contract so it’s pay back time. Wonder what all those wishy washy Tories who were waiting for the Sue Gray report before deciding to issue a no confidence letter will do now. Apparently Boris has had meetings with a lot of them- bet it wasn’t just the tea that got sweetness. I’ve no confidence in the lot of them

It's nothing to do with the f***ing cake!!!

Hear hear! I am sick and tired of people who voted for the party of law and order and fiscal responsibility, suddenly finding it acceptable to excuse lies, corruption, tax increases, contracts to pals without due diligence, a chancellor happily writing off eye watering amounts of money......so what is left that makes any of you think this shower of sh*t are doing a great job? Don't you realise these people are sneering at you, laughing as they rip you off, tell you lies and watch you not only believe them, but tell those of us who have not fallen for it that we are wrong/need to get over it/it's only a bit of cake?

The met aren't fit for purpose they must have better things to do than investigate the goings on around a birthday cake . Kids are begin stabbed in London nearly every day this must take priority. I despair of what our country has become we are an embarrassment .There is not one political party that gives me any confidence in the future

Silver Collie, ~i'm afraid you are wrong. This has nothing to do with Brexit. Wherever did you get that idea from ? It does have a lot to do with ordinary people feeling fed up with the complete lack of integrity and the evidence of corruption displayed by the present P.M and his cronies.
There is an excellent article in the Times today by former Tory M.P, Matthew Paris headed "Spineless Tories know that Johnson must go " in which he expresses much that people are feeling. ~There is also a piece about Tom Tughendat who says he will run for number 10 if Johnson goes . Now there's an upstanding man not tarred with the no 10 dirt.

Alegrias1 Sat 29-Jan-22 11:36:17

Do you think Johnson could do what this advert urges? The adverts he sanctioned?

Lying, rule-breaking, manupulative, twat that he is?

silvercollie Sat 29-Jan-22 11:29:58

Well, I have by-passed all comments before adding my own.
Naughty me!

I have to say that ~I am heartedly fed up with all this nonsense. Give us a break. Other than those who have genuine grief, Joe Public really couldn't care less about how much cake Boris had for his Birthday gathering of fellow work people within the Downing Street Bubble.

This has nothing to do with parties etc, but all to do with re-moaners annoyed about Brexit.

I suppose all the leadership surrounding the battle of Covid, the rolling out of an enormous vaccination scheme, the awarding of Furlough to millions of workers etc. etc. has vanished from the minds of the BBC; MSM et al.

At least Boris has not followed David Lloyd George (PM 1916 - 1922) who while living in No. 10 moved his Mistress into downstairs while he and his wife lived upstairs. And much more beside!

None of us are perfect!

Strange times. Watch out, there may be a war. That always settles the people down with their PM. Thinking Thatcher and that war she waged.

Think that was down to the Argies invading a British Territory. Please read some history.

I think that nanna is referencing the very poor ratings Thatcher had before the war.

Were they low, don’t know, was living in Germany, when it broke just know friends husband was sent there.

Her rating were on a par with what Johnson’s are now. I’ve seen a chart somewhere if I find it I will post it.

Yes, the Argentinians did invade.
The Falklands have never belonged to Argentina despite their claims.
Should we have just sat back?

varian Sat 29-Jan-22 10:16:33

I believe that the Argentines did threaten to invade the Falklands in 1978 and PM Jim Callaghan quietly and efficiently dispatched a naval vessel to see them off. It was hardly reported. No-one got hurt.

When Margaret Thatcher came in to office she withdrew the protection vessel from the Falklands, which encouraged the Argentines to invade.

After much loss of life Margaret Thatcher was re-elected.

I noticed an old newspaper article post Falklands War ( I was putting it on the floor to mop up something I’d spilled) and it said that Argentine were planning to invade the Falklands. I can’t remember much about the lead up to the conflict but I remember wondering why the crisis wasn’t averted in some way.
