Is this tantamount to gagging order?

BBC News. Met police, who said they couldn’t investigate the past (parties) have asked or told Sue Gray to limit her report on publication.

I feel very suspicious about this. What if they decide there is no case? Will we never hear what actually was discovered?

Here is the link. I hope it works.

The Met Police has refused to release details of its decision not to investigate the £3m ‘cash for peerages’ scandal in the House of Lords

On and on and on and on

Whitewavemark2 Fri 28-Jan-22 16:39:37

The police do so by consent.

If they don’t pull their socks up pdq that consent will be withdrawn in London.

If Sue Gray publishes her report then those involved who have given statements will become aware of what others have said which may influence their statements to the police later.
Makes sense to allow the police to conduct and complete their investigation first.

Yes that makes sense.

The Met took their time to decide to do their own inquiry. I wonder why ,?
This government goes from bad to worse. I'm afraid if they don't speak out they are tarred with the same brush It is a blatant cover up and should not be tolerated.

Very valid points LauraNorder

Well, seeing as those attending the parties had notice that Sue Gray was to investigate, don't you think most would have got together to discuss what they were all going to say anyway?

That made me laugh we don't issue fines retrospectively well you can't very well issue them in advance can you !

MerylStreep Fri 28-Jan-22 17:41:35

I thought it was very kind of Mr Plod to warn the party goers that they might ? confiscate phones.

Oldbat1 Fri 28-Jan-22 18:00:08

What a complete shambles! I am utterly ashamed. As a nation we deserve to know.

It's not just you who's laughing Soozikinzi our Prime Minister is the laughing stock of the world.

Drugs?

Yes, it’s possible as there was a report of cocaine found in several places in the Commons. One being in a toilet quite close to the PMs office.
It’s time for those letters of no confidence in the PM to be sent now and show themselves to be divorced from the culture of No 10.

Yes , I should have thought that was obvious to most people . I can’t believe how many people are so quick to accuse the met of corruption as a matter of course.

Curlywhirly Fri 28-Jan-22 19:02:31

Atqui, if the Met are not corrupt how do you explain the parties all being allowed to take place right under the noses of officers (with CCTV evidence) and no action being taken?

In the great scheme of things that worries me much more too nanna. Together with the fact that we have people unable to afford to hear their homes now, let alone after the price cap change in April, and families reliant on food banks.

Someone who voted Tory saying that they are too worried about poverty and food banks to worry about the lies the Tories are currently telling raises so many questions in my mind.

It’s a given that there was cocaine at a party of that calibre. The police stopped worrying about personal cocaine use a long time ago.

I thought MP’s like Rees Mogg we’re proud of food banks?

The police wouldn't entertain investigating these incidents initially, saying they could not investigate retrospective breaches. Then, some months later, they said they would be investigating but there was no problem with the Sue Gray investigation going ahead. Now, at the last minute, they say the civil service report should not give specific details of any of the alleged incidents. Before Ed Davey said it, I said to myself "stitch up". What is the good of a report with lots of information removed and how long will the police investigation take?

I think Cressida Dick has been shown to be incapable of doing her job properly, not just in this respect but because of a number of scandals and her inability to address issues properly.

Grantanow Fri 28-Jan-22 23:32:20

It's appalling. The report should be published without redactions now. Otherwise most people will think it is a stitch up. Kicking something into the long grass is an old ploy but an effective one. The public get bored waiting. Even Channel 4 News tonight gave it little coverage.

My apologies, Alegrias1! I hadn't realised you were actually congratulating me on being smart, when you accused me (in another recent thread) of being sarcastic. I shall do my best to live up to it...

Callistemon21 Fri 28-Jan-22 23:57:13

As we used to say at school:

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit
No, it takes a very witty person to be successfully sarcastic.

The only way this corrupt government can survive is to become more corrupt imo. Chilling….

We seem halfway down that slope already.

I never thought I would live through a coup, but that’s what seems to be happening. What looks like a conspiracy between the government and police is perverting the course of justice, undermining parliament and leaving us all feeling that we are in a country out of control.

Strange times. Watch out, there may be a war. That always settles the people down with their PM. Thinking Thatcher and that war she waged.
