The more we learn the more horrifying it gets. I wonder if those people who thought Brexit would make Britain great again still believe it.
Good Morning Friday 8th May 2026
How did you vote and why today
Instant coffee….advice needed.
as checks between mainland UK and NI stop. Breaking not only the signed Treaty, but International Law.
The more we learn the more horrifying it gets. I wonder if those people who thought Brexit would make Britain great again still believe it.

The UK and Belarus are the only two European countries to elect their government by the votes of a minority using First Past The Post.
That may not be the only thing they have in common - Russian interference in their so-called democracies being another obvious one.
Where and when did it all go so wrong?
“I can’t believe certain ERG members are still going on about Article 16. Yes, now’s the exact right time to pick a pointless fight with the EU, while in the process, trying to flout international law”.

What’s about to happen?!

Apparently they were retweets of posts by "Leave means Leave", the pro-Brexit pressure group co-chaired by Richard Tice and John Longworth. Nigel Farage was the vice-chairman. "Leave means Leave" has deleted its account - I don't know why.
My guess would be that Conservative politicians want to disassociate themselves, which is of course a red rag to the people who delve into Twitter archives, which will probably be published soon.
An about turn on brexit by those guillible Tories who have just late in the day woken up to the fact that Putin (great supporter of brexit) is the bad guy and the EU is the good guy?
They were automatically deleted because the original account had gone.

I'm afraid not. The account has been deleted, so the retweets have auto-deleted.
I bet somebody has saved them onto hard copy.

They'll be on "Wayback Machine". Nothing on Twitter ever disappears forever.
I think before the Ukraine war Tories were beginning to understand that Brexit was a serious mistake, now they are waking up to the unpleasant understanding that it was a strategic and politically catastrophic error.
Video just surfaced on twitter, showing Putin at a conference that took place in Russia in 2018.
He is exhorting May to complete Brexit.

“New info coming to light on the first Great Information War and opening battle of Brexit*. Is it true the Russian Navy sailed around the UK in celebration after the referendum? Anyone have a link
Russian Ambassador celebrated ‘Britain is now on its knees’ when Johnson made PM
Why did Boris Johnson specifically ask the intelligence services NOT to look for Russian influence on Brexit?
What if????
If Putin had not been successful in achieving Brexit?
He might then not have been successful in getting Trump elected?
He might have thought twice about invading Ukraine?
By choosing hard Brexit, Johnson deliberately walked away from 70 years of British leadership in Europe. Who benefited? Ultimately, Vladimir Putin. The next government is going to have to rebuild trade, energy, space, internet and defence collaboration with the EU, which means common standards and, ultimately, a common market.
The xenophobes, Little Englanders and Putin stooges who inflicted this predicament on us should never be forgiven.

My thoughts exactly. I think that Putin's actions have caused the EU to rethink and to make the group much stronger. We really need to get back into the EU fold but that probably won't be in my lifetime.
It would be good if we could rejoin the single market as I'm sure that it would be better for everyone.
Russia’s former ambassador to the UK Alexander Yakovenko previously boasted that Russia had “crushed” the British after the public voted to leave the EU in 2016.
The threatening comments are quoted in journalist Luke Harding’s book, ‘Shadow State: Murder, Mayhem, and Russia’s Remaking of the West’, published in 2020.
Speaking to a fellow diplomat, Mr Yakovenko reportedly said: “We have crushed the British to the ground.
“They are on their knees, and they will not rise for a very long time.”
Mr Yakovenko left London under a cloud in 2019 after the Mail on Sunday revealed he may have worked as a Soviet spy.
The diplomat still has a key role in Moscow as President of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mr Yakovenko’s comments about “crushing” Britain have been linked to alleged Russian interference in the June 2016 referendum on EU membership in which the UK voted to leave the 27-member bloc.
A report from 2020 by Parliament’s intelligence and security committee could not provide a definitive answer to whether Russia had meddled in the Brexit vote through tactics such as spreading disinformation online.
The report did, however, find that the Government had “not seen or sought evidence of successful interference in UK democratic processes” and had not attempted to do so.
Mr Harding came to his own conclusions about Russian interference in western affairs in ‘Shadow State’, which he discussed on The Guardian’s ‘Today in Focus’ podcast in 2020.
He said: “I think clearly that as a minimum the Russians carried out a kind of extensive espionage operation in support of Brexit.”

Tourism leaders have warned that UK government proposals to require international travellers to apply for a permit to cross the Irish border will damage the industry.
They were announced last year as part of the Nationality and Borders Bill.
It would require non-British and non-Irish EU citizens to apply for pre-travel clearance.
The NI Affairs Committee was told most international visitors to Northern Ireland arrive via Dublin airport.
The new Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) will be required for those international tourists who want to travel onwards to Northern Ireland, even if it is just for a day trip.
The system would be similar to the declaration that international passengers have to fill in before travelling to the United States or Canada.
Tourism Ireland said tour operators were "incredulous" when the plan was explained to them.
John McGrillen, chief executive of Tourism NI, said one of the major concerns was that travel agents and tour operators would cut Northern Ireland from their itineraries.
"If ambiguity exists, if explanation is required it will make it much easier for that agent to say, 'I don't need to be bothered with this hassle, it's much easier for me to sell a trip to Cork or Galway or Kerry'," he said.
He added that it had "taken a long time" to build up that tour business in Northern Ireland.
"If you don't make it simple and easily understood there's the potential for that business to be lost."
Joanne Stuart from the Northern Ireland Tourism Alliance (NITA) told MPs there had been no consultation on the issue.
She said there were also concerns about how it would impact cross-border workers like coach drivers.
"A not-insignificant amount of these are non-Irish EU nationals, and under these proposals they too would need a visa for every crossing. How can we justify this?
"Given the skills shortage in this sector we need to make it more attractive, not put those already working here at risk."

So Brexiters are even PROUD about breaking their word!
?
Jacob Rees-Mogg: “A lot of commentaries say, 'Well, we signed [the protocol] and therefore we should accept it lock, stock and barrel.’ That’s absolute nonsense."

We absolutely smashed it!
The OBR forecast Brexit would take 10 years to slash trade by 15%
…but we achieved that in under a year
GO US
As expected. Checks to EU imports are not going ahead.
EU businesses can continue trading with the U.K. free from all tariffs and restrictions.
U.K. businesses carry the burden of bureaucracy, tariffs and costs.
Well done Johnson
No level playing field for U.K. businesses.
