Meanwhile the UK are breaking an international treaty which speaks volumes. The UK repeatedly said that they had technological solutions - where are they? Has Arlene Foster described these technological solutions?

The First Minister of NI has written his resignation letter. A very unstable situation now for the power sharing government.

The London government recently took the Scottish government to the Supreme Court so that devolved assembly in Scotland could not do things like this
If the London government supports the Northern Ireland executive in doing this then they can have no objection in principle to far greater autonomy for Scottish and Welsh executives

Oh so Poots is speaking for the U.K. is he. I don’t believe any announcement came from Downing St re stopping customs checks. Perhaps listen to what Poots says as to why he has done this. It is concerning, of course it is, but one wonders why he has done this

The NI Secretary had this to say this morning:

"This is a matter for the Northern Ireland Executive. It is something that is within their legal remit.”

Which I think is very odd. So we can force them out of the EU against their will but we can't force them to observe the terms of the Withdrawal Agreement?

And should, perhaps, be read in conjunction with D.A. Green's comment which Wwmk2 has posted above.

A withdrawal Agreement with the EU was always going to mean agreeing a border between NI and the EU. And it was not the responsibility of the EU to set it up whatever Brexiters want to believe.

If we were inside the EU looking out at another country which had this situation developing I don't think we would be showing any toleration of rogue behaviour.

The DUP and Sinn Fein are in perpetual stand offs. This is a reflection of another one.

It is a ridiculous state of affairs and the U.K. government should bang heads together, because at the moment the DUP is threatening to ignore an international agreement in which the U.K. is party to.

Did you see on the news yesterday, the many cases of terrible bio security on farms with carcasses of sick animals? And the very clear message, that BSE has NOT gone away.

Of course the EU does not want to risk animal bio security via meat products entering their markets- now with antibiotics and all sorts of feeds disallowed by EU regulations, and/or imports from OZ and NZ, etc. If those animals or meat products, or other produce, enter NI without checks or border, they could easily go on and beyond NI.

It is a ridiculous state of affairs and the U.K. government should bang heads together, because at the moment the DUP is threatening to ignore an international agreement in which the U.K. is party to.

If we don’t do anything, it’ll be up to the EU to decide whether to erect a border.
They won’t of course, it’s just posturing. Use the technology that’s to hand say the hauliers.

This is about politics though, not trade.

Let’s hope now, the government can concentrate on the things that do need intervention and govern.

The DUP are fed up with the UK government getting “nowhere”. They’ve thrown a hand grenade into the mix. This is going to get very messy.

It's about people who didn't listen, when others were asking how the situation could be resolved. They just stuck their fingers in their ears and ignored the issues - but at least they got their blue (black?) passports.

Especially as the DUP didn’t support the deal. Their frustration about the situation is palpable.
