I am disappointed with Virginia Giuffre. Not long ago she said she would not be paid off and wanted to have her day in court to prove her side of the story. Accepting hush money from Prince Andrew, up to his neck in this sordid business, demeans women and sends the wrong message to men of this sort. They can treat women like meat as long as they pay for the privilege. Paying up pretty much says Guilty to me. I hope he slinks into the background and stays there. PA has always come across as the most entitles of the Queen's children. I really feel her today.
I am also slightly disappointed with VG. However, she's probably been 'advised' by her legal team to accept the settlement. And a "huge amount" (apparently) will go to charity.
I would imagine - just guessing - that PA's legal defence would have torn her to shreds and her own defence has warned her that her reputation, rather than his, would be the one that was tarnished.
But the fact remains that PA continued his association with Epstein in the full knowledge of his dubious reputation.
Andrew has daughters - Epstein used other people's daughters as playthings for rich men to toy with, pass around, and then discard.
His banishment from the RF and its associated duties, was necessary. But they're all dysfunctional to some extent: their exalted position - bolstered by a public that sees them almost as some kind of divinity, their onerous public 'duties' that puts them permanently in the spotlight of the media, a media that recognises the gawping nature of royalist adherents and fills column inches - page after page - reporting on their every move... none of this is conducive to leading a normal life.
In spite of not being a Monarchist - I'd rather they remain our 'figurehead' for the time being (and the Queen is nothing if not dutiful, as, I suspect, Charles will also be). They might be anachronist and antiquated, but, in these 'Trumpian times' we could end up with someone far worse than the RF. This is of course a personal opinion, others will disagree.
