Prince Harry begins High Court legal battle against Home Office: First hearing set to be held today over Duke of Sussex's demand for police protection when he and Meghan visit UK

The queen has my sympathy!

" . . . . the GS of a monarch, the DS of one future monarch and the brother of another one." The nearest in recent history was the abdicated EdwardVIII, David, Prince of Wales. That is why I ask whether he had personal protection from the Police when he visited this country. I know that was almost never, but it is the only precedent I know of.

Elegran Sun 20-Feb-22 15:33:40

"may provide" ? Not shall or must?

Elegran Sun 20-Feb-22 15:35:43

" . . . . at any premises or in any locality in the police area for which the force is maintained" So that is security at a place (football stadium etc) not for personal protection.

I find it odd that a certain poster on this thread, started another, about Harrys brother and his wife, entirely based on rumours for ‘a reaction’. Why defend one brother who has behaved badly and courted controversy, and castigate the other, a happily married man and loyal to Queen and country ?

Because actually I couldn't give a fig for either of them. But I don't understand this good royal/ bad royal business and I never believe half of the stuff printed about any of them. I don't like criticism which is founded on untruths or inaccuracies and I don't like uncritical support for anyone whatever the circumstances of their birth.

Rosie51 Sun 20-Feb-22 15:43:58

Pammie1 it's often a case of 'my enemies's enemy is my friend'. You'll find many of those who actively want the end of the Royal family absolutely defend Harry to the hilt, he can do no wrong, but is stunning and brave to walk away. Except he hasn't has he, he still wants his half in/half out position. All the privilege, none of the duty. Vitriol against Catherine and William is perfectly acceptable because they obey the rules and are aware that rights come with responsibilities.
trisher I don't recall ever seeing a post from you that has criticised Harry or Meghan, but I recall some that praised Meghan and contrasted her to your dismissal of Catherine as a "Stepford wife'. Apologies if I have missed your posts that have denigrated Harry or Meghan.

I don't think you can compare the circumstances of someone who died 50 years ago with today's threats. He only made about 3 visits anyway. Two for funerals. I believe the Queen mother wanted him kept abroad. It was possibly just a plain clothes policeman then anyway. That's what Charles had at Gordonstoun

He will be sorry when he and P Andrew put her under even MORE stress.
Lets just hope she comes through in good health.
No wonder she looks poorly, and she has lost alot of weight too i think.

I completely and absolutely admit openly to bias for women who live independent lives and plough their own furrow! Sorry can't help it!

Sorry, slightly derailing but just read that the Queen has been diagnosed with Covid.

Actually, I understand Harry’s request for security. There are a lot of people who find his behaviour distasteful. In today’s attacking society, both verbal and physical, there are a lot of people who might well feel inclined to attack him. As he sowed, so shall he reap.
Do I think he should be allowed to bring armed police from America? No.
Do I think he should be able to use our already depleted police force for his own personal security? Not unless he’s carrying out an official duty, and if I remember rightly he turned his back on that.

Nice sidestep, but blindingly obvious ??. So Meghan can do no wrong, and Catherine can do no right.....ok we get it.

It was possibly just a plain clothes policeman then anyway. That's what Charles had at Gordonstoun.

So if Harry were to move back to the UK and Archie and Lili were to attend Chichester Primary School, would he then demand plain clothes security persons pretending to be a TA in the classrooms? The demands could go on and on.

Josieann Sun 20-Feb-22 15:56:02

there are a lot of people who might well feel inclined to attack him. with boos, yes, not with guns. Otherwise the cat kicking footballer would be brown bread by now.

No idea this was 50+ years ago. I seem to remember him being described as "Charles'only friend"

Josieann Sun 20-Feb-22 16:18:51

That's sad.

Back up’s arrived!

I've tried to be objective about Harry. I believe he's damaged goods for all the reasons others have mentioned.

But he does seem to be going down the wrong path.

However, I'm not prepared to blame Meghan. Regardless of her influence (and I only know about her from what I read in the media anyway), Harry is an adult with a mind of his own.

In the end, you're responsible for your own behaviour. And Harry must be responsible for his. I just can't subscribe to this culture that blames women for men's actions.

It certainly takes two to tango, and to deny Meghan’s influence is naive. She has had an enormous effect on Harry, as Yoko Ono did with John Lennon. An influence they both seem happy to have taken on. It is not ‘blaming women for men’s actions’ as we know only too well the amount of women completely subjugated to their male companions. It works both ways.
I’m always amused when I read of the Queen’s private money.
Where does it come from in the long run? US. She certainly hasn’t been charring, holding down two or three jobs to make ends meet.
I fear Harry is turning out to be one of the lesser spotted unlikeable, vindictive and self centred Spencers. Bad blood as they say.

We don’t want people with guns on the streets, other than our police. He can bring his people but they must leave their guns at home.

There's a picture earlier on this thread of the protection for POTUS plainly carrying guns.
Of course the Chinese were refused permission and the Met covered their security.
Amazing how flexible some rules are isn't it?

But the POTUS and the Chinese officials are important people.

Actually it hasn’t. I have no views on this issue hence that was my only comment

I didn't deny Meghan's influence - but pointed out that, ultimately, as an adult Harry must be responsible for his actions.

You may not be "blaming women for men's actions" but I've read an awful lot of comments on other media sites where individuals are doing just that.

... "he was a lovely boy until she got hold of him" (etc, etc). He's not a boy, and he's no shrinking violet either.

Harry wants to keep himself on the front pages.....
Even in the States people are getting bored with his constant whining....

America is his principle audience.
Is there any evidence interest in him and his wife is waining Jabberwok?
I only ask because, if there is, it will only result in him working harder to regain the centre stage.

Very true Pammie1,but i thought she looked poorly and lost weight a few months ago.
Fingers crossed she improves asap.
