Delighted.
Bereavement wipes out everything
Well, that was a farce.........
Good Morning Saturday 9th May 2026
Can't believe masks will not be still required on public transport and all medical facilities. Really?
Delighted.
Bit garbled as not said queen paying a penny of sons payout? And tax? Queen pays voluntarily since 93 .true all those in upper echelons of fiefdom do just what they want apparently with impunity but who keeps voting the slash and burn conservatives in? We do! As for the royals? Numbered days in present form. I think huge changes afoot once queen and Charles out of the picture, but probably I'll be off to permanent holiday in my dreams by then!
I deffo think in hospitals etc should be masked. otherwise? Maybe public transport if crowded but not if hardly anyone on bus etc? Otherwise I've started not wearing one in shops, as we're only in for short time and supermarkets are huge airy spaces anyway, and if I'm Gonna be unlucky and catch it? Well I've been vaxxed and boosted so what's the point of I have to gown up the same as if I hadn't?! I'd say proceed with caution and don't drop the lot at once, keep medical situations specially protected as folks already Ill and in a weakened state.
I will continue to wear a mask in shops. Just because they say you don't have does not mean you have to stop.
I'm finding the actions of this government and the Royal Family very worrying. We have a Queen who pays £12 million to save her son replying to serious sexual exploitation charges, but who pays no tax (like her father did until the end of the war when he was given a temporary reprieve, something which the Queen has used her influence to keep). We have her successor, Prince Charles, who was caught cheating on his Corporation Tax a few years back, pretending his income from his business was private income on which he paid no tax. We have a government whose members voted against more tax transparency, and have been taking money from the Russians. People like Rees Mogg and the Queen also use the Cayman Islands ( which is a British territory to hide their exploits legally as shown by the ' Paradise Papers'. We have a corrupt government, and a corrupt head of state, who are making rules to protect their own interests. I do not trust their logic, while most of the West still has mandatory masks on public transport. These decisions are being made by people who do not pay their fair share into the health service and public transport, who have not made the sacrifices which people have made, to care about protecting these services. It's no big deal to wear masks on public transport, in hospitals, and in supermarkets, and a government who throws away all rules for some party support is not to be trusted.
Personally I will continue to wear masks in public wherever that may be. I don't need the government to tell me what to do for the best. As for scientists saying the next variant may be much more virulent and contagious, no shit sherlock, I figured that out for my self. Of course the opposite may well be true. I'll take all necessary precautions to protect myself as will my family. So far we've all managed to avoid catching covid with 3 of them working full time throughout the Pandemic. Others can do as they please as long as they keep clear of me. They have the right to do as they please as long as they don't put others in danger.
Yes but they still have a reason to tell him. They won’t soon.
I see the Queen has cancelled her virtual engagements because of her cold like symptoms
I have counted up people I have spoken to recently who had omicron around Christmas and all of them have struggled with returning to work. That’s 6 people off the top of my head. One who is a nurse hasn’t returned yet.
Oh and I also see on the BBC that the ending of free tests has been criticised by medics and charities who work with vulnerable people. Hmm I wonder who to trust?

I’m not churning up with worry. I am pissed off that selfish people will put others at risk because they believe Johnson’s crap, but that’s not the same as worry. Whatever the narrative from the libertarian right.
Exactly, I am not worried about myself- but I know too many vulnerable and very elderly people who now see this as a prison sentence.
Nezumi- thank goodness they told him and he then had the choice!!!
Just bear in mind that any one of us who gets covid, however mild, may then join the ranks of those with underlying health conditions.
I am completely in favour of it.
Make sure you wear an FFP2 if you want to protect yourself Terri. Surgical masks are great when everyone is wearing them, not so much when everyone stops.
A chap came to service my boiler yesterday. He said that he had called the people he was due to see before me and they said ‘oh we’ve all got covid but you can come anyway’. His response was ‘no thanks’. He has a long term health problem which means that he is at significantly higher risk from covid. What’s he meant to do when people don’t even bother to tell him anymore.

About time ?could of been 6months ago none of the deadly predictions came true ?
In the last 6 months there have been, according to the government's daily figures, 26,872 covid deaths. That's 50+ jumbo jets full...
Without any mitigations I wonder what it would have been...
I'm continuing to wear masks in shops. I went out today and it does seem that increasingly more people are abandoning them personally I feeling like erring on the side of caution for the time being, it remains to seen whether lifting all restrictions is premature.

But tests being free is not a restriction is it? And isolating if you have the virus shouldn’t be thought of as a restriction, it’s an entirely natural and normal response to being infected surely ?
I feel great about it. Bring it on instead of scare mongering and churning up worry all the time. We'll have to learn to live with it, like flu and be yearly vaccinated.

It’s time to throw off my mask, that would be my personal choice.
So you don’t mind the impact that has on others (because unless you are wearing an FFP2 the advantage of mask wearing is largely to those around you).
Okay so that’s impacting on the freedom of some others. But I still don’t really see how it will make you more free.

MaisieD would you care to provide a link to the new variant of the virus?
I can only find articles in which it says that some scientists conjecture that the next variant might possibly be more dangerous.
I saw it on twitter. It seems to be in Europe at the moment.

Though if you search Omicron BA.2 as growstuff suggested you'll probably find more.

You do understand the deadly predictions didn’t come true BECAUSE mitigations were taken?
And please enlighten me what will change in your life now? Because absolutely nothing will be changing in mine between now and last week.
It doesn’t help that the reaction to Covid is so different if you had flu you would not want to do anything you would feel too ill
With Covid although it can be as dangerous to a minority as with flu you can feel absolutely fine or just have mild cold symptoms
So if you feel fine I can understand people who work who don’t get full pay going in. Even SSP is useless

What normalcy are you all missing at the moment? I am genuinely curious. Why is no-one answering me? Because my life is exactly as it was pre-pandemic (except it’s easier to hold meetings online if I need to) and has been for months.
Once again the Boorish Boris is doing anything to take the spotlight off himself and his lying and cheating. who can believe a word that man says? He should have gone already. I am only interested in what medically trained people have to say regarding good cautions to take. Having had to shield and avoid due to health concerns I most certainly will not be going to very busy areas and will avoid crowds as much as possible. Of course we all want to be free to meet family and friends but if this is the wrong time we could end up with another surge in another different type of covid. we can only do our best to keep away from dangerous areas and know that we had done the best we can
