Lifting all Covid resrictions- how do you feel about it?

You can always protect yourself if that is what you want but others may think differently so don’t judge them by your standards. I can not believe the number of people on this forum who want the government to dictate what they can or not do to protect their own health. If that is what you want, come and live in the Soviet Republic Wales.

Has Putin invaded Wales? I thought he was busy in Ukraine.

The government needs to tell some people what to do because it appears they can't act responsibly without being told what to do.

The fear is that BA.2 evades immunity and is resistant to some of the drugs currently being used.

To all those who think it's OK to follow their own guidelines - some of you may be careful of others, many more won't be.

ie - it's my right not to wear a mask - it's my right to infect you and you might get ill and even die. But it's my right to do what I want.

I'm continuing to wear a mask in indoor public places in order to protect myself but also others.

I’m all in favour. Time to get back to some kind of normalcy.

I’d be a lot happier about ending restrictions if I didn’t feel sure that it has been done to deflect attention away from Partygate. Say what you like , this decision is not science led. If Chris Witty had any hair he’d be tearing it out.

Which restrictions do you mean?

If you mean self-isolation until somebody tests negative, then yes, I believe such a restriction should remain and people should be supported to comply - for as long as it takes.

sandye, if you took the trouble to read the thread, what most are saying is that masks could be worn on public transport and medical facilities until the end of winter- so just a few more weeks. NO-ONE is saying forever!

Like everyone I can't wait for normality, BUT I still think mask wearing should be continued for a fair while until we see how things pan out. It's no hardship to wear one in public places to maintain protection for everyone. I will certainly be wearing mine and not burning it for a long time!! Fingers crossed all does go the right way!!?

I work for a GP, we still want our patients to wear masks, staff still wear them in the public areas

Did you hear Andrew Bridgen (Leics South, Cons) comment about a GP saying vulnerable people will feel unable to go out. Vile and total disrespect!

Racingsparrow I presume you are talking about the democratically elected Labour government of Wales, just as the Westminster Government is democratically elected. The difference is, from the beginning the Welsh Government have followed the science. They have stood side by side with them, have told us what the science is saying, and why it’s important to take heed of the best available scientific advice. That’s not a dictatorship, it’s sensible. It amazes me that so many people are so gullible that they actually listen to the UK government who have said, admittedly in words of slightly more than one syllable, that the cost is driving the removal of testing, not the science.

In depth reading - wish I could remember where - indicated that there are certain backbenchers - the more 'enthusiastic' ones, who would like to legislate against any further lockdowns - regardless of whether a new variant (of whatever magnitude) appears.

If Johnson hadn't missed 5 Cobra meetings initially, and had instituted an immediate 'fire-break' lockdown (and not allowed the Cheltenham Races to go ahead), it might have been possible for it to be of short duration. By the time we went into lockdown, it was already too late.

There is a public house at the end of my road - during race week it was, apparently "heaving" with customers, 3 or 4 deep at the bar. A smallish pub, tightly packed, little ventilation... then all those punters going back to their B&Bs and boarding houses in our area (near Cheltenham)... the virus must have had a field day...

It's foolish, we can easily continue to wear masks in public indoor spaces and on public transport, healthcare settings etc. Why stop it? It just puts us at increased risk. A nasks is better at preventing us being a risk to others than protecting the person wearing it. Why stop requiring we do this to help protect the vulnerable who appear to have been thrown to the wolves yet again.

I'll still continue to distance and wear a mask in shops or crowded places. I think they're dropping all restrictions too soon. We won't be back to 'normality' while hundreds of people are still dying from Covid. Surely they should have waited until deaths were down to double figures, or better still single.

It is illness that restricts their freedom not everyone else living normal lives.

.....but everyone else living a normal life without testing or isolating when ill means that illness will be rife, and more people will join the clinically vulnerable.

My daughter works for the NHS and they’ve been informed that all staff and visitors will have to wear masks

Wear a mask if you feel safer to protect yourself in public places but yesterday I visited a very large DIY store hardly anyone wearing masks. I wore mine. It’s now up to individuals to decide whether to wear them or not. Personal view think may have been better not to abandon restrictions until spring. Time will tell

I think the situation regarding clinically vulnerable and immunocompromised people is an absolute disgrace!

I'm disgusted in a government that is doing it and a disgrace that people seem to be just going along with it.

I find it stunning that so many went on about vaccine passports and a two tier society but this....this is ok?
Fellow human beings are being marginalised and that's more 'worthy' in terms of freedoms?

Surely these people were just as much at risk pre covid? We could carry on forever because Covid is here for good.

What should we do? My youngest DC did his last two years of university almost entirely from his bedroom online. Children have suffered educationally and socially. The young are the future tax payers who will be paying for the NHS and repaying the cost of lockdown for their entire working lives. They need to have a normal life.

The CEV deserve the best the NHS can provide, secure warm homes etc.. We can't provide these things unless everyone else is allowed to live normally.

No one is saying the CEV are less worthy. It is illness that restricts their freedom not everyone else living normal lives.

I accept there needs to be a shift towards normality but I really don't see why that can't include Free testing and isolation following a positive test.

A friend of mine takes a test before visiting her mother in a care home, Will she have to pay to take a test or increase the risk of taking Covid in to 20+ vulnerable people?

I don't see why we can't find a way to reach normal but offer some protection to the vulnerable.

Where are you all that you are not back to normality? My life is entirely back to normal and has been for a long time. I just go about being normal while wearing a mask .

Exactly! I heard someone interviewed on the radio today who said it's time we came out of 'lockdown'!
