Racingsparrow I presume you are talking about the democratically elected Labour government of Wales, just as the Westminster Government is democratically elected. The difference is, from the beginning the Welsh Government have followed the science. They have stood side by side with them, have told us what the science is saying, and why it’s important to take heed of the best available scientific advice. That’s not a dictatorship, it’s sensible. Cymru am Byth.
It amazes me that so many people are so gullible that they actually listen to the UK government who have said, admittedly in words of slightly more than one syllable, that the cost is driving the removal of testing, not the science.
In depth reading - wish I could remember where - indicated that there are certain backbenchers - the more 'enthusiastic' ones, who would like to legislate against any further lockdowns - regardless of whether a new variant (of whatever magnitude) appears.
If Johnson hadn't missed 5 Cobra meetings initially, and had instituted an immediate 'fire-break' lockdown (and not allowed the Cheltenham Races to go ahead), it might have been possible for it to be of short duration. By the time we went into lockdown, it was already too late.
There is a public house at the end of my road - during race week it was, apparently "heaving" with customers, 3 or 4 deep at the bar. A smallish pub, tightly packed, little ventilation... then all those punters going back to their B&Bs and boarding houses in our area (near Cheltenham)... the virus must have had a field day...
