Behaviour at PMQs

I was appalled at the dreadful behaviour at todays PMQs, demonstrated by the Tory party, especially as they tried to shout down Caroline Lucas. The phrase "led by donkeys "was illustrated in full by their braying. I also thought Linsey Hoyle should have stepped in more quickly and shown more support.
I wonder what you think.

Doodledog

Anyone in the Tory party who is not an extreme right-wing swivel-eyed lunatic would make a better PM.

?? Are you not a Johnson fan, Ladyleftfieldlover?

I assume you’re joking! He was a very entertaining host on HIGNFY but that’s it really. No substance.

Of course I was joking grin. It was the unambiguous way you described him that made me laugh.

Imagine if Tom Tugendhat was PM - I can only think behaviour at PMQs would improve, as would the government

Angela Raynor is settling into her role rather well

I'm not sure where Tom Tugenhat sits in the political spectrum. That means I don't know what sort of PM he would make, other than a thoughtful, knowledgable, polite one. That would certainly be a change. I have heard both him and Chris Bryant over the last couple of days. Both polite and with interesting fact based views, well put. Both are on the Foreign Affairs Committee. There are some good - in the broadest sense - MPs who know how to do a job of work.

DaisyAnn I agree with you, Tom T and Chris B give us hope

I agree too - I am not a Tory voter, but think both Tom T and Chris B would be make far better PMs than Johnson.

Chris Bryant is Labour Curlywhirly although he has an interesting past and was a member of the Conservative Party while at Oxford. He is also a former Anglican Priest.

Chris Bryant Is always interesting and worth listening to. I found Tom T excellent throughout the dreadful way we abs the US left Afghanistan

MayBee70 Thu 24-Feb-22 19:23:20

I agree about Tom T. Having said that I often find myself impressed by some MP’s when they’re discussing a certain issue but am then appalled when I check out their voting record.

aquagran Thu 24-Feb-22 19:24:45

GSM is not always respectful and well mannered!

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 24-Feb-22 19:41:03

What do you mean?

Ah, wasn't sure- but that explains why I think he talks sense! I really like and respect him - never gets rattled and always polite.

Short memory!

This lot could learn a lot from the rules my school set for debating sessions. They call each other the Right Honourable but there’s nothing honourable in their behaviour and we wonder why this self serving, privileged bunch can’t sort out the problems affecting the lives of us plebs

Just get them to pass the conch!

I stopped watching PMQ'sthe disrepect shown to the elected members of the SNP sickens me.
Is this REALLY democracy ?
Whatever the personalfeeling of the opposite bench the men and women of the SNP have been elected on ever increasing votes by the people of Scotland and quite frankly are doing a better job than Bo'jo's circus of clowns and incompetents..not to mention crooks and liars
.What it does do is show us exactly where we stand with the toxic tories and that can only be to the benefit of the Independence cause.

I agree with paddyann 100%

Stopped watching it a while ago, could not stand to see Boris Johnson acting the fool and the sycophants supporting him blindly even when he so obviously didn't know what he was talking about or when he was plainly not speaking the truth. The whole chamber is a disgrace, and the few people on either side who try to talk sense generally get shouted down.

katy1950 Fri 25-Feb-22 12:44:50

None of the parties cover themselves in glory the whole thing sounds like a pantomime. But it always has done no matter who is in power. Best thing is not to watch it.

MayBee70 Fri 25-Feb-22 12:55:14

We need to watch it. How else do we get to know what is happening in parliament? And it never used to be this bad. Parliamentary privilege is being abused.

Maremia Fri 25-Feb-22 13:18:41

This is the sane way to watch PMQs. You pause the TV for about ten minutes beforehand. Then you activate the sub titles. Keeping your hand on the remote, you mute the recycled blah emanating from Johnson. You fast forward the stooge questions from his side, and listen to the rest.
The way Caloline Lucas was disrespected, makes me worry that Hoyle suffers from Ermine Envy.

I agree. It has always been robust, and that was, to a certain extent, part of the eccentric charm of it, but now we are witnessing the farce of lies being knowingly told, the liar not being made to correct his incorrect statement, and anyone who challenges it being made to leave the house.

Mamma7 Fri 25-Feb-22 13:44:35

I was looking forward to Hoyle being Speaker but he’s a disappointment - let’s Boris and others get away with all sorts.

spabbygirl Fri 25-Feb-22 14:16:14

PMQ's was dreadful, I am now heavily sick of seeing Boris as leader of our country, he got there by lies and cheating, is still doing the same thing but no-one can stop him! Lindsay Hoyle is too weak, he let Johnson walk out at Bryant's question then told Caroline Lucas off instead of rowdy Tories. He's too weak to challenge Boris & co & should be replaced

StephLP Fri 25-Feb-22 14:27:40

Having worked in Early Years and KS1 classrooms the behaviour of all parties in Parliament is disgraceful - teachers would never allow that kind of behaviour in school. Respect is taught but has to be earned - what kind of example do our politicians set to the younger generation?

MayBee70 Fri 25-Feb-22 14:46:44

I have received an email from the speakers office giving some sort of reason for the way he spoke to Caroline Lucas. However it says I am not allowed to disclose it’s contents. I was hoping that I could ask other people to make sense of it. Given that so many people were appalled at the way he spoke to her I don't think I’m alone in feeling that he is far more lenient with the government than the opposition parties. And, if her question was rather long maybe that is compensated by the fact that the PM’s answers are usually either very brief or ramble on about something entirely different/irrelevant.

Mummer Fri 25-Feb-22 14:55:33

The other week I watched and Tory frontbencher (?) Answered Angela Rayner by starting "she says" she? Not " honourable member " whaaa?! Sir Lyndsay missed that one!! Disgusting who's "she? The cats mother?" As mama would say!
