Seems like the measly sanctions haven’t frightened Putin, surprise surprise. What will be our circus of a government here’s response? We need to build bridges with the EU and have a combined response with the US.That would mean a different government here, I fear, as this lot have burnt too many bridges. Can’t wait to see Liz Truss in her fur hat issuing threats.

One of the most poignant scenes was the adults queuing up to give blood, when they weren’t sat in shelters with the children. Putin can take over Ukraine but he will never bend everyone to his will. They have rebelled against Russian rule before and rejected his puppet leaders, but Putin never learns, and has now unleashed horrific carnage that could lead to WW3.

My goodness - mobile cremations!! What a thing to put up for heavens sake. Needs removing.

Lucca Fri 25-Feb-22 09:33:22

Well thanks for the apology UG.

butGG I’m still upset at having a picture of crematoria sent to me. I think I need some fresh air.

Iam64 Fri 25-Feb-22 09:27:30

Thanks urmston - this situation is so distressing for everyone.

volver Fri 25-Feb-22 09:26:44

Cross posts.

If you weren't point scoring, why were you so desperate to share unsubstantiated and distressing news? Lessons to be learnt, I think.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 25-Feb-22 09:25:42

Thank you for coming back Urmstongran

Husband training course needed I think…

Thank you for the apology Urmstongran

Perhaps now you will be aware of making sure that the information you share comes from a trustworthy source and can be corroborated.

Do we think anyone will apologise for spreading fake news? Do we think anyone will appreciate how wicked it is to do that? Do we think anyone will realise that lies about a political or war situation isn't something we try to score points with?

My guess is "no".

Goodness, what a horrible thing to say about me. You obviously don’t know my personality if you think I would do such things to point score.

Urmstongran Fri 25-Feb-22 09:23:37

Good morning everyone. Abject and sincere apologies from me with my ‘fake news’. I’ve only just returned to the thread and was horrified to be made aware of my error.

I am really sorry.

Himself told me. He had been watching SKY news and had read one of the breaking news strap lines. I honestly don’t know whether he read it wrong or whether what he read was later corrected?

volver Fri 25-Feb-22 09:20:17

I've just been on the site of the Russian Consul in Edinburgh. Lots of misinformation there, let me tell you.

However my first reaction wasn't to come on GN and make posts sharing news that is unsubstantiated and upsetting.

So when we talk about jumping to conclusions, can we also be aware that sharing false news is the worst kind of jumping to conclusions and there's no excuse.

As for sharing pictures of crematoria, what are you thinking?

GrannyGravy13 Fri 25-Feb-22 09:16:00

I was pointing out that UG’s post was false information.

I still don’t get why you address that post about crematoria to me. Seems rather nasty.

It wasn’t intended to be nasty Lucca

I felt that your response to my post was rather harsh, not on me but towards another poster who has not yet come back to answer the many posts after theirs.

None of us know where the information came from, which is why I posted regarding disinformation emanating from Russia and in all probability China.

It’s best not to jump to conclusions, don’t you think?

Even if it had been categorically stated that Ukraine was not going to join NATO, I doubt that would have stopped Putin. He’s bent on re-annexing the former Soviet lands.

Effective sanctions would IMO have to hit rich and powerful Russians hard, e.g. by confiscating their assets, at least until this megalomaniac thug is got rid of, so that pressure to oust him would come from within.

IMO we should also have a ban on Russians entering the U.K. because I can see Putin reacting to sanctions with more Salisbury-type episodes.

Or at least have minute inspections of anything they’re carrying, and make them taste anything that could conceivably contain the poison.
I dare say that should also apply to anyone with passports from former Soviet states, since he’s surely bound to have henchmen based in those, too.

TerriBull Fri 25-Feb-22 09:08:24

I've read about the brave demonstrating citizens of Russia to be charged with treason too.

Meanwhile some heart breaking pictures of young Ukrainian children sheltering in some sort of underground air raid shelter. Can't help thinking how dare this awful man tear their world apart angry

BlueBalou Fri 25-Feb-22 09:04:33

The rest of....not ‘treat’ fhs!

BlueBalou Fri 25-Feb-22 09:03:53

Those arrested will be charged with treason, mass suppression of the Russians is well underway.
It’s a very frightening time, my heart goes out to Ukrainians everywhere, they must see treat of the world as just sitting back and watching ?
Macron, Bien and Johnson are completely impotent when a megalomaniac dictator like Putin is on the rampage. Clearly other Easter European countries must be fearing how far he will go. I don’t think for one minute that Putin will stop with Ukraine.
And China’s eyeing up Taiwan.

Vladimir Putin hasn’t got all the citizens behind him, I am sure I heard the figures of 52% for and 48% against this morning (ITV News)

He certainly hasn’t. I saw in other cities people are protesting, and being arrested for their efforts. Brave of them to go against Putin.

Lucca here’s something from Essex.

Are you aware that the Russian Forces have mobile crematoriums with them?

No bodies to count, how convenient.

Why are you addressing that to me ?

Replying to your post of 8.42 this morning.

I think it’s obvious that there is going to be misinformation and propaganda from Russia.

I have so much respect for the thousands of Russian citizens who marched in protest against the invasion of Ukraine last night. The largest were in St. Petersburg and Prussia Square in Moscow. It’s being reported on ITV that hundreds were arrested.

These very brave folks risk life and limb when they stand against Vladimir Putin’s regime.

That was from greater Manchester not Russia !!!
