Seems like the measly sanctions haven’t frightened Putin, surprise surprise. What will be our circus of a government here’s response? We need to build bridges with the EU and have a combined response with the US.That would mean a different government here, I fear, as this lot have burnt too many bridges. Can’t wait to see Liz Truss in her fur hat issuing threats.

Ukraine has put out a plea to enable them to reconnect the power

Radioactive substances could be released from Ukraine's Chernobyl nuclear power plant because it cannot cool spent nuclear fuel after its power connection was severed, Ukraine’s state-run nuclear company Energoatom said

So what exactly volver, did I post that was going to of use to Putin? What was it in my post that you agreed with GG13 was "naive and in some cases dangerous"?

I'm not suggesting that I'm telling you something you didn't know.

Perhaps you can have a word with the person who last week gave away the location of a family member and what they were doing?

Why would I? Have I suddenly been promoted to be this persons Manager?

It seems both you and GG13 have decided this forum is here for you to tell other people what to do. I do not see it that way. To me it is here as a place of discussion.

While we're all gaily discussing food drops and fighter jets, someone could well come along and tell us what their family members are up to. If fact they did. hmm

So I'm not stopping you from saying anything, or telling anyone what to do. Just asking for people to think before they post.

I assume very similar to your managerial oversee and requests in the covid threads?

I will bear it in mind?

Ukraine has put out a plea to enable them to reconnect the power

Radioactive substances could be released from Ukraine's Chernobyl nuclear power plant because it cannot cool spent nuclear fuel after its power connection was severed, Ukraine’s state-run nuclear company Energoatom said

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Sunday that Ukraine’s nuclear regulator informed it that staff members at the plant, the largest in Ukraine, are now required to seek approval for any operation, even maintenance, from Russian forces.

It also appears that the regular contact the plant would normally have with the IAEA has been stopped.

Och, grow up folks.

We don't really like being argued with, do we? Or being faced with a bit of common sense?

But you can all carry on, post what you like. Nothing to do with me. The lack of understanding of the fact that anything that does out on the 'net is there forever, that anyone can see it, and that we're not just having a chat over the garden fence, that's mind-blowing.

Yes I saw that. I fervently hope that the Russians have sent down an expert to Chernobyl.

My son was there last year, and it is still pretty dangerous. I understood that the workers could only spend a limited time on site before resting because of radio activity. It sounds as if that is not now happening.

Don’t be silly. We are all adults and left school donkeys years ago.

You are very welcome to debate with me but not I repeat not try to manage what I post. You are apparently making an assumption that I not being careful about what I post - well I would like to advise you that it is not true. There is information that I am aware of that I either never post or don’t post until it is in the public domain.

This is a little social media site where largely elderly folk chat and argue.

Nothing you see on here would not be found on other social media sites.

US refused to comply with the Polish request - MIGs

More context is needed Whitewavemark2

The USA & I believe NATO have advised Poland that if they let the Ukrainian Air Force fly these Polish Fighter Jets (which are in full Polish livery ) President Putin could take it as a sign of NATO and The West engaging in war with Russia which would mean a major escalation of the conflict.

For the same reason our MOD have their knickers in a twist because British servicemen including a 19 year old from the Coldstream Guards have gone awol to fight in Ukraine. They are trying to find and stop them in case Putin takes it as a sign we have declared war on Russia.

Don’t be so naive. These soldiers have gone AWOL, a crime in the armed services, and would be searched for whatever, apprehended and charged. The fact that they may well be captured, paraded by Russian thugs in front of the world, remember John Nichol, tortured , and then being used a premise to wage war on NATO. They have done the most idiotic thing imaginable when we are not at war.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 09-Mar-22 12:50:35

This is simply not true. My post:
DaisyAnne
I don't understand the allies not having organised an Airlift of food into the most locked down areas. We have done it before and it cannot be seen as an act of war.

Was followed immediately by GG13 post which you agreed with. She was not referring to anything other than my post.

GrannyGravy13
I think it’s very naive and in some cases dangerous to think that we in the West are party to all that is happening in Ukraine.

It is a war, and some things need to be kept quiet.

So I would ask again, what was in my post that was "naive and in some cases dangerous"? Please don't try and wriggle. Just answer the question.

Katie59 Wed 09-Mar-22 12:59:49

NATO is supplying Ukraine with arms, currently light arms, that does not mean that heavy weapons will not be supplied, indeed if Ukraine wants to kick the Russians out they are going to need them.

Ukraine has plenty of manpower, train them to use heavier weapons they can win without outside help, the Polish MIGs repainted flown be Ukrainian pilots familiar with them would not be direct involvement by NATO. The only way they could use them is if the airfield could be defended.

The Russians would scream blue murder if/when that happens and do nothing, because NATO is on guard and ready to reply to any escalation outside Ukraine

also those going to ukraine to `fight` without armed forces experience and training, they become a liability and are not wanted. My major dd and her captain husband were fuming when reading about the `good hearted` men who are doing this. They take valuable resources away from the ukraines

I will try this for a start, you are assuming that all that is going on in Ukraine is in the open domain totally naive.

Any other demands ?

I think that those without any military experience are being turned away.

Those who have military experience are being offered Ukraine citizenship for obvious reasons.

Would you prefer that I don’t post what the English newspaper is saying - reflecting Ukraine demands?

Or I could post what Zelensky is demanding, which is no different to the Independent.

I wasn’t aware that I said that I agreed with the demand, but I do agree that every Ukrainian has the right to be heard.

You are not debating or arguing. You are simply being personal.

1. Nothing I said put anyone in danger and I resent you saying it did.
2. You are now quoting things I said after you accused me of being "naive and in some cases dangerous" as evidence for the reason you said it. You are, in fact, wriggling.

You were insulting and I had said nothing to deserve such a comment. It seems when you are unable to debate you turn to abuse. I have not demanded anything from you but I did not deserve such an aggressive attack.

The Kyiv Independent@KyivIndependent·10h⚡️Foreign volunteers will be able to obtain Ukrainian citizenship if they want to, First Deputy Interior Minister Yevhen Yenin said on March 9.

Twenty thousand foreign volunteers have joined Ukrainian forces to fight Russia since March 6.
