Seems like the measly sanctions haven’t frightened Putin, surprise surprise. What will be our circus of a government here’s response? We need to build bridges with the EU and have a combined response with the US.That would mean a different government here, I fear, as this lot have burnt too many bridges. Can’t wait to see Liz Truss in her fur hat issuing threats.

Well thanks for the apology UG.

butGG I’m still upset at having a picture of crematoria sent to me. I think I need some fresh air.

In hind sight, I should have posted that separately, it wasn’t intended for you personally, and I apologise.

Enjoy your fresh air, I am off to IKEA with my daughter and her youngest (2) no doubt I shall find things that I never knew that I couldn’t live without…

My goodness - mobile cremations!! What a thing to put up for heavens sake. Needs removing.

Unfortunately I disagree, everyone should know the horrors that are being unleashed in Ukraine and on the Ukrainian people.

It’s a pity that there was not more known about the German Camps during WW11 rather than afterwards.

volver Fri 25-Feb-22 09:46:07

Somehow I knew you were going to say that.

What is the point of showing distressing pictures without any warning and implying that other posters need to be aware of the truth?

I think everybody's aware what is happening and salacious pictures you think that we need to see are completely uncalled for.

I won't be reporting, of course.

growstuff Fri 25-Feb-22 09:53:35

Although I'm not claiming that these things won't be used, people should be aware that the picture is actually from 2015 or even 2013.

Apparently 150 senior Russian officials have signed a letter protesting the invasion - wonder what will happen to them and all those brave Russians who have demonstrated against Putin's actions.

volver Fri 25-Feb-22 09:55:50

Ha!

Weren't we just talking about misinformation?

Thank you growstuff.

That is why I am hoping that Putin will not get support from his officials to pursue further into the Balkans etc.

It may be clutching at straws but there is always hope.

Yammy Fri 25-Feb-22 10:03:48

What can be added to all of the above. Sympathy with the Ukranian country is so inadequate. sad

They must be feeling so alone. I have listened and listened to all the arguments and can absolutely understand why NATO cannot enter and fight, as this will start a European wide, if not world wide war, and that must not happen.

But surely to goodness, and let’s hope it is happening that we (I mean the west) can surreptitiously supply weapons and even mercenaries to help the Ukrainians? Of course by its very nature we will never know if this is happening but I fervently hope that it is the case.

Putin has not succeeded yet by a long way, in fact reports are saying that he failed in all his objectives yesterday. The Ukrainians are brave, strong people who I’m sure will never ever accept Russian rule whatever the outcome.

What I would also like to say is that this is war and everything we hear and read cannot always be taken as truth. Question, question, question is the way forward.

razzmatazz Fri 25-Feb-22 11:21:08

And to top it all Harry and Meghan say they stand by the Ukraine. That will scare Putin s***less.

Fashionista1 Fri 25-Feb-22 11:26:21

If we impose tighter sanctions, i.e. cut Russia out of SWIFT They will just cut off oil and gas supplies to Europe. Currently 41% of Europe's oil and gas are from Russia. That means that world oil and gas prices will rocket and we will see massive increases in domestic fuel.

Juicylucy Fri 25-Feb-22 11:27:53

Putin is not threatened by sanctions however tough they are. He’s a war monger nothing more nothing less.

JaneJudge Fri 25-Feb-22 11:28:52

tax them heavily on their UK owned property? confused

HannahLoisLuke Fri 25-Feb-22 11:33:34

The only way to stop Putin is for the Russian people to realise what he is and put an end to it.

GoldenAge Fri 25-Feb-22 11:37:02

Jaberwok - agree - Hitler's argument for marching into Poland and Czechoslovakia was to regain Germany's sphere of influence, Putin's is the same but he adds into it the de-nazification of Ukraine - which is another matter. It is absolutely true that some parts of Europe have moved very much to the right but what we have here is not a battle between left and right but one between two super (now) capitalist powers - and as usual, it's the ordinary people who get caught in the crossfire.

MaggsMcG Fri 25-Feb-22 11:37:10

Labour have already said they would not rejoin the European Market. As far as Ukraine is concerned most of the rest of the world are against it. Putin sounds like a mad man to me threatening nuclear strikes which would threaten his own people too. Someone needs to stop him somehow before he causes WW3 and possibly the end of civilisation.

Fashionista1 Fri 25-Feb-22 11:38:33

This is serious, Putin has the capability of wiping out Europe with a nuclear bomb. Fighting is just the beginning. I understood that it was agreed that the Ukraine and the other former USSR countries would not be invited to join NATO because NATO's weapons could potentially be pointed at Russia from the region just over the Russian border. The Russians claim Belaruse has already done this. It's a bit like the Cuba crisis.

LynneH Fri 25-Feb-22 11:52:24

We rely on NATO for our defence, not the EU. We are still perfectly capable of effective liaison with our European partners, and other NATO countries, as we were before we joined the Common Market

knspol Fri 25-Feb-22 11:53:45

On. lighter note I read that Harry & Meghan have condemned Putin's actions and have called for world leaders to follow suit, Putin must be quaking in his boots!

LuckyFour Fri 25-Feb-22 11:58:18

I'm not quite sure why so many of you jump to start blaming our government - particularly Boris - for everything that happens in the world. There is too much "they should have done 'this' or 'that'. We have good people doing their best and we are very lucky. They don't always get it right but most people do their best I find.

Thank you for the apology Urmstongran

Perhaps now you will be aware of making sure that the information you share comes from a trustworthy source and can be corroborated.

I usually trust my husband haha! But yes, I take on board what you mean volver.

Never thought I'd say it, but bring back Trump. Putin would never have done this of Trump hsd been around. Trump dealt very efficiently with N Korea and we haven't heard a peep from Kim whatever since.

Then you haven’t been listening, reading and watching.

TanaMa Fri 25-Feb-22 12:38:52

Putin won't be worried about sanctions as he will be well provided for, as all his murdering ilk are from whatever country, it is the usual 'man in the street - poor Joe Blogski' who will take the brunt.
Pity someone doesn't assassinate him and do the world a favour.

Maremia Fri 25-Feb-22 13:05:48

We can't all go out and march in demonstrations, but despite all the horrendous price rises, and more to come, in the UK, we can do something. We can put money where our mouths are and donate to a properly research Ukrainian charity. Right now, when they need it.
