I had hoped that a few people would have woken up as better people this morning, just let it go. Snarky comments about where people are born are spiteful and irrelevant, especially when it started with a discussion about how we could/should help the people of Ukraine. Some of you are like horrid little girls in the playground, how would you feel if your dgd was being told her opinion wasn't valid because she "isn't one of us". Now grow up.

The thing is, GillT57, the OP seemed to many (completely irrespective of the poster’s country of residence) to be rather challenging? - “I’m going to do this: what are you going to do?” I would have thought that threads on GN regarding any form of support for Ukraine should be practical - supplying links to sites to donate, items required, etc., rather than suggestions as to what others should do. Just my feelings.

Such bravery being shown by the people of Ukraine.

It's the oddest things that are moving I think, I watched a report where they showed the belongings of those who had fled, obviously strewn across the streets of the city as they rushed to escape. The young people of Ukraine were going round clearing the litter, I am not a crier but the resilience and sense of duty of those young people made me cry.

One can only imagine how grateful those poor refugees will have felt to see such signs WWmk2.

IF, and it's a big IF, any of you could be bothered to read my post properly you might, and it's a big might, realise that my reference to Boris and Brexit bashing was in reference to Kali2 constantly criticising the government of a country she doesn't live in. Something I would never do. Having explained that, I shall now leave this thread and find a pleasant places to have a conversation.

I feel perfectly entitled to criticise and nation in the world. I certainly do my fair share of criticising the USA .

We can and do criticise other countries, and I certainly did about the Afghanistan withdrawal, the Ukranian guards not letting non Ukranians through the borders, was disgusted. Constantly and every five minutes banging on about a country you don’t live in, and obviously really dislikes, does even get my ire up.

I dont live in America I think Bidens decisions around Afghanistan were shameful. I think the Canadians approach to protest over Covid regulations has been bizarre and devoid of any kind of understanding of the long term implications, I am not Canadian either.

Do agree! especially Canada's approach to the protests how draconian some of these so called liberals have become I'm fully vaxed and still masked up in shops. Nevertheless I think that some governments have really lost the plot in how they've shown themselves up in the clamping down of dissenters, not the way to win anyone over, more likely to reinforce an intrenched position . and lamentably further down the slippery slope of erasing women's rights in the trans debate, but veering off topic so I'll leave it there.

Loved Canada when I went, but that was in their summer, not jealous at all of their winters, soooooooooo long, and certainly not their prime minister, just as awful as ours!

Not on this forum but in other places yes because it relates to a subject I am interested in. In the same way I moan about surrogacy and prostitution laws in the USA because it's a subject I am interested in. It's how the internet works really.

Could I tentatively suggest we stop describing criticism of government etc as “bashing” ? It’s too emotive.

And surely we all at some point criticise the acts and attitudes of other governments and countries ?

I think the poster in question has every right to criticise the UK government as we could criticise others.
