Oh those were the days Whitewave!
Happy Birthday - 100 years on Earth
National treasures. Who would you choose?
Has anyone else done anything as daft as this?
In today’s PMQ’s the PM claimed: (Britain has) taken more people fleeing theatres of conflict since 2015 than any other country in Europe. Fact: Germany took more refugees in a single year (2019) than UK did in in 6 years from 2015 to 2020. France has taken 3 times the number PM is claiming for UK in the same period. In addition the PM repeated the claim that this government is building 48 new hospitals. Fact: most hospitals claimed in this figure are rebuilds or renovations. The actual new builds are so from the planning state, it will be years before they are built.
Why is he never held to account?
Oh those were the days Whitewave!
The system needs scrapping it is meaningless
Gavin Williamson:
left children to go hungry
created two years of complete chaos over exams
failed to get laptops out to kids struggling to learn during lockdown
And now it’s Sir Gavin.
Utter contempt for children and education staff.
I see Nadine Norries has tweeted claiming responsibility for RT being taken down, when we ALL know this to be an absolute lie..
She ends her tweet with the Ukrainian flag.
My goodness these people take the biscuit.
“Imagine lying to the Queen, then having your staff hold two parties on the eve of her husband’s funeral, then to top it off…
…force her to degrade the honours system & become an accessory to corruption by knighting a sacked fool, in a blatant ploy to keep skeletons in closets.”
Dominic Raab has claimed to be in the vanguard of sanctions. I think he is confusing the vanguard with the guard's van. ?
Mamie

???? excellent
Because some people will believe it, most won't care one way or the other. I think though in the main its PR, creating an alternative narrative that suits the day. Enough of it will stick so job done, reality does not come into it.
All that leading the world in applying sanctions - it’s just a lie!
He keeps lying because he gets away with it therefore no incentive to stop.
Most kids go through a period of lying but grow out of it, he has arrested development.
I think he suffers from what DH might term 'verbal diarrhoea'
I hope that doesn't offend anyone.

Imagine being reduced to pretending that you really believe Gavin Williamson deserves a knighthood, Priti Patel cares about Ukrainian refugees & Boris Johnson has led the world on sanctions. Seriously. Imagine just how hard you’d have to lie to yourself to pull that off.
No doubt the master of deception, with Ukraine likely to dominate headlines for months to come he is going to get away with a lot more. This means that he is likely to stay as PM maybe even to the next election - it may be sooner than we think too, before he has to account for the cost of Brexit and Covid.
I was reading about Colour Revolutions yesterday. Just some thoughts.
A small group of people make a big splash and portray themselves as The Majority. (Russian funded Vote Leave/Farage/Aaron Banks)
Divide a country (Brexit. Culture wars)
Discredit the media (Defund BBC)
Destroy faith in leadership (Corruption, lies, bad decisions, appoint incompetents, government break the rules they themselves make)
Further destroy faith in leadership through seemingly unfounded and confusing actions (Knight Williamson, lie to everyone - even the Queen, constant U-turns)
Destroy faith in the system and respected institutions(Cast doubt on elections/interference in referendums, "We've had enough of experts"/Civil Service is the enemy)
Remove the right to protest.
Population so befuddled and divided the enemy can walk in almost unnoticed.
Who is doing all of this (The Tory Party and the Tory Press)
Who is funding the Tory Party?
Funny, sounds very like China’s approach. The mastermind in so many situations.

Russia's lies know no bounds. It is now appearing that they are failing to observe the ceasefire that had been agreed on to allow civilians to escape besieged cities.
I meant Solzhenitsyn
It's frightening.
Russia doesn't change, does it - the name may but the tactics don't.

Well, it doesn't matter to Putin, does it? He doesn't care about the opprobrium of much of the West (and has support in a few countries). He has closed down all media outlets that he cannot control and is feeding the Russian public tales of what amounts to Ukranian 'false flag' operations i'e that the Ukranians are deliberately destroying apartment blocks etc and blaming it on Russia, using a complicit Western press to spread their 'propaganda'. According to the Russian state controlled media civilians aren't being targeted and Russia is providing humanitarian aid...
So what does he care about contravening all the conventions of war?
Explain the psychology to me, as it would go a long way to explain a lot of things.
A tweet from a young Russian girl living in Ukraine saying that she had phoned her parents in Russia telling them of the continuous bombing that she is experiencing.
They refused to believe her saying that they prefer to believe what they see in the tv.
I hope I'm not repeating myself as I have been saying this to everyone - it hit me so hard.
I now know why the German people found it so hard to believe what their leaders had done. Even when it was before their eyes, at the end of WWII. You can now see how deep propaganda can go.
I do weep for Ukraibutne think "poor Russia" too.

"The function of propaganda does not lie in the scientific training of the individual, but in calling the masses' attention to certain facts, processes, necessities, etc., whose significance is thus for the first time placed within their field of vision.
The whole art consists in doing this so skillfully that everyone will be convinced that the fact is real, the process necessary, the necessity correct, etc. But since propaganda is not and cannot be the necessity in itself, since its function, like the poster, consists in attracting the attention of the crowd, and not in educating those who are already educated or who are striving after education and knowledge, its effect for the most part must be aimed at the emotions and only to a very limited degree at the so-called intellect.
All propaganda must be popular and its intellectual level must be adjusted to the most limited intelligence among those it is addressed to. Consequently, the greater the mass it is intended to reach, the lower its purely intellectual level will have to be." (Hitler, Mein Kampf Vol. I Ch. 6)
We have seen the results of what you described in your post, coastpath, on here. People who are so tired of reading about the undeniable lies and corruption of this government and who choose to believe that all politicians are the same so they might just as well keep on voting for the current Tories.

I believe that many Russians, possibly the majority, fear that "walls have ears", and that there is quite literally nowhere safe to say anything that the authorities would disapprove of.
While that sounds like paranoia to those of us who live in a democratic country, I don't think their fear is unfounded.
Perhaps that goes a little way towards explaining what the girl's parents said?
