John Bercow has been found guilty of bullying staff by an enquiry according to Sky News.

He is banned from all parliamentary buildings for life.

Bercow's just been live on Sky news. Quite furious and getting passive aggressive with the reporter.

Quite an interesting article here. Why would a private secretary be paid 86k and asked to sign an NDR if there was no substance to the allegations?

He was Chardy. And they didn't like being called out for their faults, which frankly, even a novice to the UK political scene could see.

I just love it when people come on to comment and have no idea what they are talking about MaizieD
I'm afraid there's a lot of that on Social Media
I'm sorry he was a bully to work for, but he was an assertive Speaker when we really needed one.

So one ex parliamentarian accused of bullying and found guilty is lambasted in the press and condemned by an MP (Andrea Leadsome really!!!!) whilst a sitting MP and minister found guilty of bullying, who only escaped an employment tribunal by dishing out an undisclosed sum of public money, still sits and is supported by the PM! Is it any wonder that people have lost all respect and belief in MPs?

There is no excuse for bullying, shouting and swearing at staff - and that counts for everyone, no matter what their political leanings are. As he has been found guilty then I hope the proposed ban is implemented

DaisyAnne Tue 08-Mar-22 14:31:08

I also assume that if all are not treated in the same way John Burcow would be able to take the findings and sentence to law.

DaisyAnne Tue 08-Mar-22 14:28:56

Reading the article the "ban" has been recommended but no decision has yet been made to implement it.

I assume that if this goes ahead all proven serial liars and bullies in Parliament will be punished in the same way.

Horrible man. I hope this stops him being shown on the media and he just disappears from Public Life.
No excuse for being a Bully.

Chewbacca Tue 08-Mar-22 14:18:30

Patel should have been got rid of long ago and not just for being a foul mouthed bully.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 08-Mar-22 14:10:09

It is the utter hypocrisy that I find so chilling.

Patel was found guilty of the exact same crime. Staff were constantly being reduced to tears. Her language was appalling and she belittled so many.

All bullies should be made to pay. Not just those you don’t like or support.

Bercow has rightly been called out, now how about Patel?

Petera Tue 08-Mar-22 14:09:48

Chewbacca I expect the usual snippy, snarky, Bercow admiring apologists will find some way to defend him his behaviour.

Page 2 now and no-one has defended his behaviour. Please get back to us when this happens.

MaizieD Tue 08-Mar-22 14:07:52

but I expect the usual snippy, snarky, Bercow admiring apologists will find some way to defend him his behaviour.

Can you justify that statement by what has been said so far on this thread? I haven't seen anyone defending his behaviour.

Chewbacca Tue 08-Mar-22 14:02:24

One of the staff who worked with him, and was one of the victims of his incessant bullying, said that " It was the one and only genuinely horrible, undermining and consistently upsetting period of my career which had led to stress, anxiety and a loss of confidence, was when I worked for him". She said Mr Bercow had failed to show remorse and had instead "blamed the process for being flawed, amateurish and unjust and not even applicable to him".

No one should be expected to work with someone who loudly and continually criticises their upbringing, education or background but I expect the usual snippy, snarky, Bercow admiring apologists will find some way to defend him his behaviour.

Surprised at how many GN’s agree to this as it allows them to put the boot in re Boris. Shocking but not too surprised that bullying is fine in some circumstances account to the haters.

Do show us where anyone has defended him.

Try reading posts with a bit of comprehension.

Kamiso Tue 08-Mar-22 13:47:02

According to.

Kamiso Tue 08-Mar-22 13:46:22

The case was more about bullying the staff who worked for him and parliament in general. Reducing staff to tears by publicly shouting and humiliating them is appalling.

I think he should be stripped of being a Lord he came over as a bully and an obnoxious little man with a massive chip on his shoulder

I just love it when people come on to comment and have no idea what they are talking about grin

Bercow isn't a Lord. Former speakers usually do get a peerage and sit in the Lords, but Bercow didn't. Another petty act of revenge by Johnson and his Brexit government.

Well said CvD66 and Dickens.
At least Bercow kept to high standards when it came to behaviour in Parliament .
If he is not allowed a Parliamentary pass how come Priti Patel is allowed in? . She has been shown to be a bully and often comes over as downright rude , ill tempered and bad mannered in debate.

While I cannot condone John Bercow's behaviour, I find it incredible that just one month after Dame Laura Cox's report into bullying and harassment (from 200 cases of evidence)in the HoC, Pritti Patel was excused by the PM despite an inquiry finding that her behaviour met the civil service definition of bullying (in more than one ministerial role). Bercow was a thorn in PM's side, Patel has been his vicious sidekick. Is that right, fair or decent??

Well said.

... this.

Bullying is bullying.

It stinks to me.

And I'm no great fan of Bercow, either.

IMO it's just another way to silence opposition to this current government.

karmalady

horrible little jumped-up twerp. Serves him right

Why? Because he wasn't posh?

Blossoming Tue 08-Mar-22 12:58:50

If they’re going to kick all the bullies out of Parliament there won’t be many left.

lavendermine Tue 08-Mar-22 12:49:25

Good. Horrid little man.
